Nick Bjugstad doesn't have a point in his first eight games with the Florida Panthers.
The Panthers decided to keep him around for the final six games of the 2013 season, so the first year of his entry-level deal has already been used up after he signed with the team earlier this month. Bjugstad, who has 13 shots and a minus-6 rating thus far, is thankful for the experience though. "It's nice to get my feet wet for these games," he said. "I didn't want to go into the training camp not knowing what to expect at this level, that's why this is a big deal." Apr 23 - 7:34 AM

Nick Bjugstad will make his NHL debut on the Panthers' third line alongside Jack Skille and Quinton Howden Saturday against the Capitals.

Bjugstad has scored over 20 goals in consecutive seasons with the University of Minnesota and seems to be a power forward in the making. That said, we would take a wait and see approach before picking up the 20-year-old rookie.

Nick Bjugstad is expected to make his NHL debut on Saturday.

Florida GM Dale Tallon said Bjugstad will practice with the team Friday. "We wanted to get him signed, under the fold and get him some experience," Tallon added. "He's 6-6, 220 pounds, and only 20."

Nick Bjugstad has been signed to an entry-level deal by the Florida Panthers.

He just finished his third season with the University of Minnesota, where he picked up 21 goals and 36 points in 40 games. Bjugstad was chosen in the first round, 19th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Panthers.

Saturday night's goal became Nick Bjugstad's second winning goal in as many nights for the University of Minnesota Gophers.

Bjugstad decided to stay in college for the 2012-13 season and play his third year with the Gophers. Bjugstad was selected with the 19th overall pick in 2010 by the Florida Panthers and is coming off a 42-point season in his sophomore year with the Gophers. Bjugstad has had issues with inconsistency, but his offensive potential is interesting. He's worth keeping an eye on.

Nick Bjugstad has decided to stay in college for the 2012-13 season and play his third year with the University of Minnesota.

The opportunity to turn pro and compete for a roster spot with the Panthers at training camp was available if he wanted it, but in the end he felt another year of college was the better option. "This is the right spot for me," he said. "I am going to be close to finishing my education and hopefully can accomplish the goal that I have had ever since I was little, which is winning a national championship. We are going to have a good team this year and hopefully get another chance at the national championship and make a run there. I feel I can develop here and become more of a leader on the team as well. Hopefully, I will have a good season."

Nick Bjugstad needs to decide if he wants to turn pro for the 2012-13 season and make a push for a roster spot with the Florida Panthers.

The Panthers said they would support whatever his decision is and Bjustad hopes to have one in roughly two weeks. "It's up to him. Whatever he decides to do we'll move on with it," GM Dale Tallon said. "We never tell kids whether to go to junior or college, or leave college sooner than they're ready." Bjugstad was selected with the 19th overall pick in 2010 and is coming off a 42-point season in his sophomore year with the University of Minnesota.

The Florida Panthers have selected Nick Bjugstad with the 19th overall pick.

The Panthers acquired the 15th overall pick in the Nathan Horton deal, but they traded down to the 19th pick. With the talent pool so low in the United States, it is extremely tough for scouts to make accurate projections. However, Bjugstad bucks that trend because of his grit, intensity, and scoring prowess. In his last two seasons he was able to score 51 (in 25 games) and 60 (in 25 games) points respectively. He has had issues of inconsistency, but his offensive potential is likely what intrigued the Panthers. He should be seen as a long-term project, but he's worth keeping an eye on.
