Tyler Pitlick scored the winning goal in a split squad game played in Edmonton Monday night. His successful third period shot elevated the Oilers over the Calgary Flames and the team never looked back en route to a 4–2 victory.
Pitlick was one of four Oilers to score Monday night. Teammates Iiro Pakarinen, Ryan Vesce, and Kris Versteeg also got on the board. The Flames had a first-period, 2-1 advantage on the strength of goals by Kenney Morrison and Freddie Hamilton. Despite giving up four goals in a losing effort, Flames’ Jon Gillies blocked 35 shots to give him a respectable 0.897 save percentage. The net-minding duties for the Oilers were split between Cam Talbot and Eetu Laurikainen. Talbot gave up the Oilers two goals in period one; the 23-year-old Finn Laurikainen was perfect for one period in his bid to make the team, but needed to block only two shots. Sep 27 - 12:13 AM

Tyler Pitlick thinks that if he could get better luck on the injury front, then he could earn a regular spot with the Oilers.

Pitlick has suffered a variety of health problem over the years, with his most recent issue being an injured spleen, which sidelined him for a little over three months last season. He finished with two goals in 17 games with Edmonton. "If I could just stay healthy and play consistently and get in a groove, even those games I played at the end of last season, I was feeling comfortable," Pitlick said. "I was getting my game down and I felt good then I had the injury. I think if I didn’t have all those injuries, I’d definitely be an every day NHL player."

Tyler Pitlick (lacerated spleen) took part in some of Monday's practice.

Pitlick hasn't been cleared for contact. There's no guarantee that he'll return before the end of the 2014-15 campaign, but he remains optimistic. "Everything is feeling good, I haven't been in any pain in a while, so that part is going good," said Pitlick. "And I'm getting on the ice. I just have to wait for my next scan and make sure everything is healed up and then I'll be able to take contact."

Tyler Pitlick (lacerated spleen) might not return before the end of the 2014-15 campaign.

Pitlick will need to wait a month before he can start exercising and is still three months away from being cleared for contact drills. So while it's still theoretically possible that Pitlick will play again this season, given that the Oilers aren't going to make the playoffs, his primary concern should be getting in the best shape possible for the 2015-16 campaign.

Tyler Pitlick will begin Sunday's game on a line with Mark Arcobello and David Perron.

Pitlick had been seeing action on the top line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall but will be replaced on the top unit by Teddy Purcell. Pitlick loses any fantasy value he may have had on the top line and now it looks like Purcell gets a tick up on his fantasy value. Pitlick will see some power play time in front of the net as well on Sunday.

Tyler Pitlick scored his first goal of the season to get Edmonton on the board Friday night, they still lost 4-2.

Pitlick collected the loose puck by the offensive blue line after Ryan Nugent-Hopkins caused a turnover by sending Ducks defender Cam Fowler into his bench, and he ripped a pretty snapper by Andersen to make it 3-1 late in the second. With three shots, three hits, 43% faceoff wins, and his second career goal in 12:38 of ice time, it was a pretty good night for the Oilers' leader in +/-.

Tyler Pitlick will get a chance to play on Edmonton's first line on Wednesday.

The Oilers are trying to snap a 10-game losing streak, so they're trying to make some bold moves. Pitlick has a goal and no assists in 12 career NHL games, but he does have some offensive upside. "It's time for me to make a step. I think I'm ready," Pitlick said. His linemates will be Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall.
