Oilers prospect Tyler Pitlick has had a trying season in the AHL.
The 20-year-old forward registered only two assists in 14 games this season before suffering a concussion. Despite the hard luck, Pitlick is an intriguing player who could find himself in the NHL at some point down the road. His high energy style of play could make him a useful third-liner in the bigs. Keep an eye on him in keeper formats. Sun, Nov 25, 2012 08:33:00 AM

Tyler Pitlick could be an impact player in the NHL according to his Oklahoma City coach Todd Nelson.

"Last year Tyler was trying hard to find his way. He picked it up in the second half of the season and had a good playoffs," Nelson said. "He came to camp this year a much more confident player. He still needs to find consistency, but I see him as an NHL player. I really do. I can see him being an impact player in the NHL." Pitlick is part of a great draft for the Oilers in 2010 as all eight players selected have a great chance to play and contribute in the NHL. Of course, Taylor Hall is at the top of that list, but it also includes Martin Marincin, Curtis Hamilton, Ryan Martindale, Tyler Bunz, Brandon Davidson and Kristians Pelss. The Oilers will be hard to beat in a few years.

AHL Oklahoma City Barons coach Todd Nelson is eager to get the team's season underway.

With the NHL lockout, the Barons have gotten a huge boost. Players like Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will be spending time in the minors for the duration of the lockout. "We want to try to get on a streak right away but I do think if we just come out and play hard, and do the right things, we’ll be all right," forward Tyler Pitlick said.

The Edmonton Oilers have signed Tyler Pitlick to a three-year entry level contract.

Pitlick was the first player selected in the second round in the 2010 Entry Draft, 31st overall. He had 27 goals and 62 points in 56 games this past year and is currently on the shelf with an injury as his Medicine Hat Tigers are playing Red Deer in the second round of the WHL playoffs. Pitlick is a good defensive player but he is more of a scorer than a playmaker. It should still be a couple of years at least before Pitlick plays in the NHL.

Tyler Pitlick is expected to get into some preseason games for the Oilers after performing well at the rookie tournament.

"I had no idea what it was going to be like coming here this year," said the nephew of former NHLer Lance Pitlick. "I was coming here looking for the experience and seeing what it was going to be in future camps. I was hoping to do as well as I have been, but I wasn't expecting it. All these guys are great players and I'm just trying to do everything I can to keep up with them." He scored 11 goals and 19 points in 38 games with Minnesota State University last season, but is moving on to play in the WHL this year with the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Oilers’ center Tyler Pitlick is not going back to school at Minnesota State University.

Pitlick figures his best chance to improve his skills and develop into a top-rated forward would be to join the WHL. Pitlick, the Oilers’ 31st overall pick, will be playing for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the upcoming season. "I think it's going to be really good for me. I'll be able to show what I can do in the WHL," Pitlick said. "A big reason why I wanted to go was because they play more games. It's more of a pro style. Plus, I can just focus on hockey. I won't have to worry about school."
