The Panthers have returned Quinton Howden to the minors.

Howden posted a minus-3 rating and one shot during his 9:29 of ice time in his NHL debut Saturday night. The Panthers were pummeled 7-1 by the Philadelphia Flyers in the contest. He has notched nine goals and 19 points in 41 games with AHL San Antonio this season. His demotion coupled with Drew Shore's could mean that Kris Versteeg is ready to return for Tuesday's game in Tampa.

Quinton Howden was recalled from San Antonio of the AHL.

Howden became the latest Panthers player to play in his first NHL game Saturday night in a blowout against the Flyers. "I called my dad right away. He was pretty excited," said Howden. "I made sure I called my mom, my brothers and sisters as well. They’ve always been there for me. This is something I’ve always dreamed of, but I’ve always had my family’s support. This belongs to them as much as it does me."

Quinton Howden, the Panthers top pick in the 2010 draft, is having difficulty scoring in the AHL this season.

The 25th overall pick in the 2010 entry draft has scored only six goals and registered six assists in 29 games for the Rampage, the Panthers AHL affiliate. This is in sharp contrast to the 20-year-old Howden's production with Moose Jaw of the WHL where he averaged a point-per-game over a four year period.

Florida prospect Quinton Howden will likely start the 2012-13 season with San Antonio of the AHL.

That said, the Panthers expect Howden, who is finally healthy and has exceptional skating ability, to play in the NHL at some point this upcoming season. Keep an eye on Howden. He has a chance to be a very good second-line player.

Howden was selected in the first round, 25th overall, by the Panthers in 2010. He had 40 goals in 60 games last season with Moose Jaw of the WHL but likely needs a year of seasoning in the minors before he can crack the big club.

Quinton Howden suffered an upper-body injury in Tuesday afternoon's 3-1 loss to the Nashville Predators in rookie tournament play.

He was hit hard against the boards by defenseman Scott Valentine and AHL Rochester coach Chuck Weber said he was kept out for the remainder of the contest for precautionary reasons. Howden is slated to get a look during Florida's main camp, but will probably need some additional seasoning before he is ready to make the jump to the NHL.

2010 first round pick Quinton Howden could make a strong push in training camp to earn a spot with the Panthers this fall.

The talented center potted 40 goals in 60 games with Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League in 2010-11 and will likely spend some time in the AHL if he doesn't make the big club right away.
