He scored in the third period to put the Panthers back in the game, but the Edmonton Oilers would add another goal late in the frame for a 4-2 victory. Howden has eight points in 38 appearances.

Howden will skate to the left of Derek MacKenzie and Dave Bolland on Florida's fourth line. Which suits the young forward nicely because he has 45 hits through 16 games this season. A quality depth move for any leaguer looking to beef up that stat this weekend.

The Panthers' fourth line supplied both goals in the contest to rally the team from a 2-0 deficit and force overtime. Derek MacKenzie had the other marker in the loss, while Connor Brickley contributed a pair of assists.

The Florida Panthers scratched Quinton Howden, Dylan Olsen and Steven Kampfer in Monday's game against Philadelphia.

Howden was Florida's first round pick in 2010, but he's only played in 34 NHL games. The 23-year-old hasn't developed as quickly as the Panthers would have hoped. Olsen and Kampfer have very little fantasy appeal.

Quinton Howden said he had something to prove coming into training camp.

Howden had brief stints with the Panthers two and three seasons ago, but stayed in the AHL last season. He was limited to just 33 games in 2014-15 because of a broken wrist. "I had to prove myself after not getting any games here last year, having a rough season," Howden said. "That’s already in the past, I’ve forgotten about it. I wanted to prove myself again, earn a spot. I wanted to earn the job and move forward from there. I had the confidence that I could come in and take a job, not let anyone else take it from me."
