Brock Nelson sent Team USA past Team Norway 2-1 during the preliminary rounds on Saturday with the eventual game-winning goal.
Nelson, who is playing in just his second tour of international duty and first as an NHL'er, had a fine game for himself. Through 18:20 of work, Nelson put only two shots on goal but made it count with a goal 5:58 into the second. This gave the Americans a lead they'd never surrender. Nelson has had some very nice runs of offense this season, especially when handed a prime opportunity linemates-wise like this one. He's a great option in various formats, including daily fantasy sports such as FanDuel.

Look for Brock Nelson to return to the New York lineup on Saturday.

Nelson was a healthy scratch in Game 5 as coach Jack Capuano decided to put Mikhail Grabovski in the lineup. But the Islanders are having trouble scoring of late and Nelson could provide that as he had 20 goals and 42 points in the regular season.
Apr 25 - 8:34 AM

Updating an earlier note, Brock Nelson will indeed be scratched in place of Mikhail Grabovski on Thursday night for Game Five versus Washington.

Nelson had a quality sophomore season, posting 20 goals and 42 points in all 82 games this year. And he even scored a pair of goals through the first four games versus Washington, but Coach Capuano has other ideas for tonight.

Nelson opened the scoring at 6:06 of the first period, beating Washington goalie Braden Holtby to the glove side with a wrist shot from the right circle. The left winger notched his second goal at 18:41 of the third period when he outskated two Capitals and found the empty net. Nelson fired a team-high five shots on the Caps' goal. Josh Bailey also contributed two points for the Isles, assisting on Nelson's first goal and then scoring one himself at 10:36 of the second period to give New York a 3-1 lead. Nelson hadn't found the back of the net since Jan. 4. He has 16 markers and 34 points in 58 contests in 2014-15. Now that he's gotten that monkey off his back, it wouldn't be surprising to see him enjoy an offensive run.

Brock Nelson has gone 10 straight games without finding the back of the net.

Nelson has gotten some good opportunities lately, but he hasn't been able to convert on them. Even still, he's not overly concerned. "I've just got to find ways to help the team, find ways to chip in defensively so that can lead to offense," he said. The sophomore forward still has 15 goals and 31 points in 49 contests in 2014-15.

A lot is said about the Islanders becoming a better team this year because of better goaltending and the additions on defense, but Nelson’s emergence can’t be discounted.
