Jimmy Hayes picked up a goal and an assist in the Panthers' 5-2 loss to the Kings on Tuesday.
The former Blackhawk started an ultimately short and failed rally for the Panthers in the third period, scoring and setting up another to make it 4-2 before the Kings put it away late. Very impressively, Hayes has now picked up a goal in four of his last five games and has registered six points over that stretch. He has eight points in 10 games played this season to go with a plus-five rating. Jussi Jokinen scored the other goal for the Panthers. Nov 19 - 1:54 AM

Hayes opened the scoring in the first period. The young forward has collected a point in five of his last six games since being reinserted into the Panthers' lineup. The 24-year old averages less than 13:00 of ice-time per game, so he isn't a good bet to keep producing offensively. He has six points in eight games this season.

Jimmy Hayes replaced Shawn Thornton in the lineup in Monday's 1-0 loss to Ottawa.

In his first action of the regular season, Hayes recorded a team-high four shots in just 8:33 of ice time. Hayes may have earned himself another look and more playing time when Florida plays on Friday in Buffalo. "He was strong; he drove down the rink; he played real hard and that's what we need," coach Gerard Gallant said. "We'll look at the line combinations, and see what we're going to do."

Don't look now, but Jimmy Hayes might be worth adding for those desperate for scoring.

The Florida Panthers forward has five of his 13 points this season in the last five games, including four goals. He obviously doesn't have a long track record of success, but could conceivably remain hot in this final month; he scored two goals for the Panthers in a 4-3 SO loss to Vancouver on Sunday.

"At 6-foot-6, he's got a big body, he's got decent hands down there and you can't teach size," interim bench boss Peter Horachek said. "We need to make it as difficlut as possible for goaltenders. That's one area we clearly have to do better, obviously." Florida has the 30th-ranked power play in the league.
