It's unclear what is bothering Hayes, but he may have been hurt in Tuesday's fight with Carolina's Brad Malone. Coach Claude Julien said that Hayes is day-to-day and he will be re-evaluated on Thursday.

Hayes assisted on Max Talbot's first goal of the season at 9:52 of the first period. It was his ninth assist of the season. He also scored his fifth goal of the season on a tip-in at the 4:00 minute mark of the second period. Hayes had gone 15 games without a goal. Ryan Spooner assisted on Hayes' goal -- his 10th helper of the season -- and scored his eighth into an empty net at 17:17 of the third period. Patrice Bergeron and Loui Eriksson each assisted on Spooner's goal, their 21st and 15th assists, respectively.
