Brendan Gallagher netted a goal for a second straight game since his return from two broken fingers.

If there was any doubt how important Brendan Gallagher is to the Canadiens it was erased Friday in the Habs' 5-1 Winter Classic victory over Boston.

Gallagher scored a goal and registered an assist in his first game back since November 22nd when he sustained two broken fingers. He was the game's first star and sparked the Canadiens to a dominant victory over their bitter rivals, the Bruins. The Habs couldn't score during Gallagher's 17-game absence but in the 23 games that Gallagher has suited up this season, the Canadiens have scored more than three goals in 19 of them. He is no doubt a difference maker.

As expected, Brendan Gallagher will play in the Winter Classic in his return on Friday.

He said he will be in the lineup against Boston. Gallagher was having a great season before he suffered two broken fingers. He has generated nine goals and 19 points in 22 games.

Brendan Gallagher (hand) has received the green light to return to action.

He got clearance after practicing with his teammates on Thursday, so he should be expected to play in the Winter Classic on Friday. Gallagher has been sidelined since Nov. 22 with two broken fingers, but he's projected to take back his spot on the top line with Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec.

Brendan Gallagher was spotted practicing with his Montreal teammates Saturday morning.

This is huge news for Habs' fans and Gallagher owners alike. Gallagher, who has been sidelined since fracturing two fingers on November 20th, was on the ice working on drills. He still may be a few practices away from returning, however, as he was still wearing a non-contact jersey. That said, this is encouraging news.

The loss of Brendan Gallagher has hurt the Canadiens.

Montreal had a 16-4-2 record and an average of 3.54 goals per game before he fractured two fingers on Nov. 22. With Gallagher sidelined, the Canadiens are 4-9-1 and are averaging 1.93 goals per game. The 23-year-old forward has nine goals and 19 points in 22 matches this season. He was playing great alongside Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty, who have both struggled during Montreal's losing skid. Gallagher still hopes to return for the Winter Classic and he will travel with his teammates after the Christmas break.

Brendan Gallagher (hand) skated Monday morning.

It was his first time on the ice since he fractured two fingers on his left hand back on Nov. 22. He didn't do much work with pucks as a result. Gallagher is expected to be out of action until the first week of January, but he's still hoping to be ready to play in the Winter Classic.

It is no coincidence that Montreal's scoring has taken a downward turn since the injury to sparkplug Brendan Gallagher.

After being the highest scoring team in the NHL for the months of October and most of November, the team has not scored more than three goals in seven straight contests coinciding with Gallagher's hand injury. As well, the team has lost four games in a row for the first time since January 2014. Sure the Habs miss Carey Price. But an argument can be made that they miss Gallagher more.

Brendan Gallagher (hand) knows there's a slim of chance of it happening, but he's still hoping to play in the Winter Classic.

He had the hard cast taken off his hand about 10 days after he underwent surgery to repair two broken fingers and now he is wearing a splint. "I'm not allowed to do anything really right now except for treatment with physios," Gallagher said. "Pretty soon here I think I'll be able to kind of ramp up my treatment, maybe get in the gym, get on the ice, start doing stuff so when I do come back I'll be ready."

Brendan Gallagher left Sunday's game against the Islanders after blocking a Johnny Boychuk shot and didn't return.

The Montreal Canadiens announced that Gallagher will undergo surgery for two broken fingers on Monday and he'll be out indefinitely. It's a tough blow for Gallagher who was having a breakout season with 19 points in 22 games.
