The Arizona Coyotes will likely recall defenseman Philip Samuelsson later in the season.

Samuelsson was acquired by the Coyotes on Friday for Rob Klinhammer and was sent to the minors but GM Don Maloney thinks he will be up by the end of the season. "He's an intelligent puck mover, and I thought Rob Klinkhammer was fine, but we could move him along and get a younger player that fits the direction that we're going to have to go with this team," Maloney said. Samuelsson had four assists and 20 penalty minutes for the Penguins AHL team this season.

The Arizona Coyotes have acquired Philip Samuelsson from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a conditional 2016 fifth round pick and Rob Klinkhammer.

Samuelsson has four assists and 20 penalty minutes in 22 AHL contests in 2014-15. He was taken in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Philip Samuelsson was named the AHL player of the week last week.

The defenseman had a goal and five points with a plus-six rating in three games. "I feel like I'm seeing the ice better, and I'm making quicker decisions," Samuelsson said. "Anytime you're thinking fast, you're giving yourself the best chance to make better plays." He has 17 points in 38 AHL games this season and no points in five games with Pittsburgh.

After some rocky patches in his early professional career, Philip Samuelsson is finally getting his shot with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Samuelsson logged 15:43 minutes in his NHL debut on Monday. "Philip is a guy who has developed the most in our organization of any defenseman in the last three years," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. "He's come a long way. He left BC and he's developed into a top shutdown defenseman, a top [penalty-killing] guy for Wilkes-Barre." His limited offensive upside means that he probably won't ever be a major factor in standard leagues, but he does average about a minute per game in the sin bin.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Philip Samuelsson from the minors.

The Penguins have been hit hard with injuries on the blueline as Kris Letang, Rob Scuderi, Brooks Orpik and Paul Martin are all out of action. Samuelsson was drafted in the second round of the 2009 Draft. This was his third season in the minors and he had six assists in 26 games at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He has no fantasy value.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed Philip Samuelsson to an entry-level deal.

Pittsburgh claimed Samuelsson in the second round of the 2009 NHL entry draft. He had 16 points and 72 penalty minutes in 39 games with Boston College this season.

Philip Samuelsson is not at the Penguins prospects camp for the second year in a row.

Samuelsson, the son of former NHL blueliner Ulf, is in his native country of Sweden in the off-season and since he is playing college hockey at Boston College, he must pay for the travel on his own as per NCAA rules and it is not working out. He had a goal and 14 points in 42 games in his freshman season. He was drafted at the end of the second round in 2009, so the Penguins are high on his potential, especially since he went against the top lines in college hockey despite his tender age.
