The Flyers are excited to have 21-year-old Petr Straka join the organization.
A 2010 second-round pick of the Blue Jackets, Straka never ended up signing with the club after some injuries his first year after being selected and a down season in 2011-12, all played in the QMJHL. He bounced back in a big way last season with 41 goals and 41 assists with his new QMJHL team, Baie-Comeau. "We liked him from his draft year and so we had a bit of a resume on him to begin with," said Chris Pryor, Flyers director of scouting. "He’s got some assets that are hard to find. He’s got some real good speed, he can shoot the puck and his size is good. He’s going to get a chance. He’s got a nose for the net. He’s got a lot of potential." Straka will probably need at least a year of AHL seasoning. Sat, Sep 7, 2013 08:27:00 PM

There will be plenty of teams lining up to sign him once the lockout ends.

Straka was taken by the team in the second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, but will now go back into the 2012 NHL draft pool. "We expected him to be more of an offensive guy, and he just kind of stumbled in that regard," Wright said. "He had a good playoff. That's what we envisioned of him." Straka had 22 points in 21 playoff games after a disappointing regular season.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will not sign prospect Petr Straka.

Straka was taken in the second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, so this comes as a bit of a surprise. He had 18 goals and a career-low 37 points in 54 QMJHL contests in 2011-12. However, he also excelled in the 2012 playoffs with 22 points in 21 games. Straka will now be part of the 2012 NHL draft pool.
