Ben Holmstrom racked up 14 penalty minutes in Tuesday's 4-0 preseason loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Islanders were split into two teams tonight. One team played an exhibition game against the Rangers (the Isles lost 5-2) and the other half played against the Flyers in another losing effort. Holmstrom picked up Amazingly, Holmstrom picked up all of his penalty minutes in the third period, as he got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and a cross-checking penalty (with a misconduct). The 29-year-old hasn't played in an NHL regular season game since 2011-12 and he probably won't play in many more this season.

Ben Holmstrom has agreed to a one-year, two-way deal with the New York Islanders.

Holmstrom had four goals, 24 points, and 138 penalty minutes in 76 games with the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2015-16. The 29-year-old forward is likely to remain in the minors for the entirety of the 2016-17 campaign.

The Carolina Hurricanes have sent Ben Holmstrom and seven others to the minors.

Trevor Carrick, Dennis Robertson, Jared Staal, Keegan Lowe, Daniel Altshuller, Justin Shugg and Gregg Nemisz were also sent to the minors. Shugg, Nemisz, Staal and Holmstrom need to clear waivers but that should be a formality.

The Carolina Hurricanes have inked Ben Holmstrom to a one-year, two-way contract.

Holmstrom will make at least $200,000, but that number will balloon to $600,000 if he spends the entire campaign in the NHL. He had 32 points and 146 penalty minutes in 75 games with the AHL Adirondack Phantoms in 2013-14. He also served as the Phantoms' captain.

He played his first game in nearly nine months in Sunday's exhibition game after suffering a torn ACL on Dec. 8, 2012. Holmstrom has played in seven NHL matches in his career. Philadelphia also waived goaltender Yann Danis.

Ben Holmstrom has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract extension with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Holmstrom will make $285,000 in the minors and $600,000 if he spends the 2013-14 campaign with the Philadelphia Flyers. He's out for the season after undergoing "ACL reconstruction" on his right knee.

Ben Holmstrom underwent "ACL reconstruction" on his right knee Thursday and he is expected to require 4-6 months of recovery time.

Holmstrom went scoreless in five appearances with the Flyers last season. He posted eight points and 29 penalty minutes in 22 games with AHL Adirondack in 2012-13 prior to heading to the sidelines.

Ben Holmstrom will have surgery on his knee Thursday, but a timetable for his return to Adirondack's lineup is unclear at this time.

"We won't know the significance and damage until the doctor gets in there," said Philadelphia GM Paul Holmgren. "He has a cartilage issue with that ACL that was repaired when he was 17. So, this is a re-injury of the same knee. We're hoping it's just stretched and they don't have to [fully repair] it." If his ACL is torn then he could be out for months.

Ben Holmstrom will undergo surgery on his right knee and be out indefinitely.

The Adirondack captain injured his knee Dec. 8, but the extent of the injury is still unknown. He'll have surgery Dec. 20. The 25-year-old who played in five games with the Flyers last year had eight points and 29 penalty minutes this season.

The move came after Zac Rinaldo was cleared to play from his neck injury. Holmstrom has gone pointless in five games with the Flyers this season.

Holmstrom has been called up in light of recent injuries to 48, 68 and 36 but will play a limited role with the team.

The Philadelphia Flyers have returned Ben Holmstrom to the AHL.

The Flyers sent Holmstrom and Tom Sestito down because of the expected returns of Sean Couturier (head) and Brayden Schenn (concussion) to the active roster. Holmstrom only played once in this call up and will return to Adirondack of the AHL where he had 16 goals and 58 penalty minutes in 25 games.
