His demotion could mean that Daniel Briere will return to the lineup Thursday night when the Flyers host Ottawa. McGinn has five points in 18 outings with Philadelphia.

Tye McGinn has been sent down to the minors to get some conditioning work in after recovering from a fractured orbital bone.

McGinn suffered the injury back on Feb. 25 against Toronto in a fight with Mike Brown. He required surgery to repair the damage.

That is encouraging news. That said, McGinn did not travel with the team for Saturday's game against Boston. McGinn will likely be out of action for another two weeks.

GM Paul Holmgren’s original projection was that the rookie would miss two weeks but we are now looking at a return date that will be two weeks longer that the original scenario. In any case, Philadelphia management likes the energy that McGinn can bring to the table, but he doesn't bring much in the way of fantasy value.

Tye McGinn broke his orbital bone during a fight Monday night and will miss at least two weeks, if not more.

That would explain the Flyers' sudden acquisition of Kings forward Simon Gagne on Tuesday afternoon. McGinn will likely be placed on injured reserve to make room for Gagne and owners can feel free to drop him.

Recent call-up Harry Zolnierczyk skated in his place. "This is nothing against Tye, he's been real good for us," coach Peter Laviolette said. "We've got good young players and decisions to make before every game." The Philadelphia bench boss likes the energy that both players can bring to the table, but neither has much in the way of fantasy value.

Tye McGinn has made a positive impression on the Flyers and he may have earned himself a job with the team when Scott Hartnell is eventually able to return from his foot injury.

"He's been such a nice addition to our lineup," coach Peter Laviolette said. "He's big, he's strong, he finishes his checks. He fights once in a while, scores goals, sticks up for his teammates – all things you look for when a player is coming up." In 11 games with Philadelphia, McGinn has contributed three goals, five points, 14 penalty minutes, 14 hits and 22 shots.

With Wayne Simmonds questionable for Saturday's game against the Hurricanes, there is a good chance that Tye McGinn will get the start on the Flyers' top line.

He skated alongside Claude Giroux and Danny Briere in the latter stages of Friday's game after Simmonds departed and helped set up a goal. McGinn showed some offensive capabilities with Gatineau of the QMJHL as a youngster but has done little in one and a half seasons in the AHL. Pass on him for now.

The Philadelphia Flyers have inked prospect Tye McGinn to an entry level contract.

Tye is the younger brother of San Jose forward Jamie McGinn. He was a fourth-round pick of the Flyers, 119th overall, in the 2010 draft. According to capgeek.com, he agreed to a three-year, two-way deal. That means he'll likely start the 2011-12 campaign in the minors.
