Mark Olver made a huge argument to stay in the Colorado Avalanche's lineup by scoring three points in the team's come-from-behind 4-3 victory against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.

Olver had been a healthy scratch since March 5 but his one-goal, two-assist night should keep that from happening again for at least a while. That doubles his season total, as he had just three points in 19 games before this impressive performance. Chuck Kobasew also had a goal and an assist.

Mark Olver and Michael Sgarbossa scrapped in practice on Saturday.

Coach Joe Sacco did not think the fight was a bad thing as both players are literally fighting for their spot in the lineup. Sacco is probably glad that some of his players are showing some fight as the Avs have been a big disappointment in the early going.

The Colorado Avalanche have re-signed Mark Olver to a two-year contract.

Olver is set to earn $550,000 on a two-way deal in 2012-2013, and $650,000 on a one-way deal in 2013-2014. Although a concussion sidelined Olver for 35 games this past season, he nonetheless managed to impress the Avalanche front office enough to warrant the deal.

In his initial contest Friday night following a callup from Lake Erie of the AHL, center Mark Olver scored a goal and assisted on another in the Colorado Avalanche's 3-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

What took the Avs so long to call this guy up anyway? "I'm just happy to contribute," Olver said. "I missed 35 games with a concussion this year, so it was tough, but it's the way it can be sometimes in this game. I just am happy to have gotten a chance again tonight and it went well, thanks to my teammates."

Olver left Thursday's game in the first period, but the injury might not be serious. Obviously, anytime someone suffers a head injury, we immediately fear that they might have a concussion, but we haven't heard anything to suggest that Olver is suffering from one. Stay tuned.

Mark Olver did not return after suffering a first-period head injury.

The Avalanche lost Olver, part of Colorado's top line, to a head injury midway through the first period. He was leveled by Mike Komisarek's hard check near the red line and lay sprawled for several moments before crawling off the ice. Even before Olver managed to reach the Colorado bench, teammate Cameron Gaunce, recalled from Lake Erie of the American Hockey League earlier Thursday, was exchanging blows with Komisarek that resulted in 5-minute penalties for both for fighting.
