Michael Bournival got to play in his first NHL game Thursday night since Feb. 28, 2015.

He skated in just 20 games with St. John's last season and missed most of the year because of a concussion. "I'm very proud of what I did to get back in the NHL," Bournival said. "Now I've got an opportunity to prove myself."

You never want to hear that about a player, especially to start the season, but Bournival looks to be starting the campaign at a disadvantage. The chances of Bournival starting the season with the Habs have become remote given that he also has a two-way contract.

The Montreal Canadiens have given RFA forward Michael Bournival a qualifying offer.

The offer is for one season, and is a two-way contract. No finances have been released yet, but the 23 year old Bournival is coming off an Entry Level Contract that dinged the cap at $660K. He doesn't figure to see much of a raise over that sum with just 19 points in 89 games for Montreal the last two seasons.
