Kevin Connauton was the odd man out for most of the 2013-14 campaign, but he may be able to secure a roster spot with the Stars next season.
The team is poised to buy out the remainder of Aaron Rome's contract, which could free up room for Connauton. "We have a lot of young defensemen who are making a good push and we need to create room for them," GM Jim Nill said of the Rome decision. If Connauton can fend off Patrik Nemeth, Jamie Oleksiak and Jyrki Jokipakka then he could be in line for a much more permanent slot in the lineup in 2014-15. Jun 16 - 2:10 PM

Kevin Connauton has been a healthy scratch for six of Dallas' past seven games.

The Stars dressed recent call-up Patrik Nemeth in his NHL debut on Tuesday instead of playing Connauton. "I've talked to Kevin and it is frustrating," coach Lindy Ruff said. "I really think that Kevin has come a ways this year and still has a ways to go. I think his strength is more on the offensive side of it, where Nemeth's is more on the defensive side, and we're turning a little bit more in that direction. I asked Kevin not to get frustrated, because I do see improvement. I just told him that I know it's frustrating but I think you can get there, you're just a little ways away yet." Connauton has eight points and a minus-5 rating in 35 games this year.
Apr 2 - 12:07 PM

Kevin Connauton had an assist in Dallas' 4-2 loss on Saturday.

Connauton has a goal and eight points in 27 games with Dallas this season. We can't recommend picking him up in standard leagues for the remainder of the campaign and we aren't optimistic about his chances of having significantly more fantasy value in 2014-15.
Mar 2 - 9:42 AM

Kevin Connauton collected two helpers in Thursday's 6-4 loss to Montreal.

It was the first multi-point outing of the rookie defenseman's career. He also had six shots and he saw 17:07 of ice time. Connauton has produced one goal and five points in 15 games this campaign.
Jan 3 - 9:17 AM

Kevin Connauton will probably get plenty of ice time while Stephane Robidas and Trevor Daley are sidelined.

It's a big opportunity for Connauton, who has just three games worth of NHL experience. He got his first NHL point on Thursday and has some offensive upside. That being said, we can't recommend grabbing him in standard leagues at this time.

Kevin Connauton got his first career NHL point in Thursday's overtime loss to Toronto.

He earned a power-play assist on Shawn Horcoff's tip-in goal, which tied the game late in the third period. Connauton concluded the contest with five shots during his 15:22 of ice time. "It was my second game in a row, and I really felt a lot of confidence," he said. "I think if I can get in and get playing regularly, it can only help me." With Stephane Robidas and Trevor Daley sidelined, he should get plenty of game action.

Kevin Connauton is expected to play on Tuesday.

Connauton has spent most of the first two months of the season serving as a healthy scratch. In fact, he's played in just one NHL contest this season, although he also completed an AHL conditioning assignment that led to him playing in six contests with the Texas Stars. He's projected to play on the third defensive pairing with Jordie Benn.

Look for Kevin Connauton to get the first chance at additional playing time as a result of the injury to Stephane Robidas.

He will likely be in the lineup against the Oilers Sunday. If Connauton fails to impress, the Stars can turn to Aaron Rome. Neither has any fantasy value.

Kevin Connauton has completed his AHL conditioning assignment.

Connauton has an assist and 23 penalty minutes in six AHL contests this season. He isn't expected to get enough playing time with Dallas to make him worth owning in standard leagues.

Kevin Connauton will report to AHL Texas on a conditioning assignment.

Connauton has only participated in one games with Dallas this season. He isn't expected to have any fantasy value in 2013-14.

Kevin Connauton is expected to make his NHL debut Thursday when Calgary visits.

He skated with Sergei Gonchar during the Stars' morning session. His presence in the lineup looks like it will send Alex Goligoski to the press box. "I'm extremely excited, a little bit nervous," said Connauton, who has been a healthy scratch for the team's previous eight games. "I never thought this moment was going to come the last couple years, so it's pretty surreal that it's happening right now. I am going to try to make it through the day, get a good nap in and get after it tonight."

Kevin Connauton skated with Dallas' top-six defense group on Sunday.

He was paired with Jordie Benn on the team's third pairing. If Trevor Daley (upper body injury) is unable to play Thursday then Connauton could make his NHL debut. He could also end up back in the minors should Daley be healthy by then.

Kevin Connauton has signed a three-year contract with the Dallas Stars.

The first year of his new deal is two-way, which will see him earn $600,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 in the AHL. The next two years are one-way and he'll make $650,000 in 2014-15 and $800,000 in 2015-16. Connauton was acquired by Dallas from Vancouver as part of the trade for Derek Roy. In 69 AHL games for the Chicago Wolves and the Texas Stars, he posted 31 points and 73 penalty minutes. He added a team-leading five points in nine postseason contests.

One time Vancouver Canuck Kevin Connauton is enjoying his time with the Texas Stars.

The defenseman was dealt along with a second round pick to Dallas for Derek Roy and while he was shocked at the time of the deal, Connauton now realizes the deal could have been the best thing that happened to him. "Coming here was really a positive thing, it was a fresh start," Connauton said. "I was able to hit the reset button and it's been nothing but positives since I got here." Connauton had two goals and six points in nine regular season games after the trade and has two goals and five points in nine playoff games. The third round pick in the 2009 Draft has a good shot to crack the Dallas lineup next season.
