Lance Bouma remains an unsigned restricted free agent for Calgary.

"The only thing with Lance is we haven't agreed to a number yet," GM Brad Treliving said. "We'll continue to work away at it. We've still got time before training camp opens and we're hopeful we'll get something done but as of yet, we haven't. That's where that's at." Bouma generated five goals and 14 points in 78 games last season. He also racked up 181 hits while logging 12:36 of ice time per contest.

Lance Bouma was happy to hear that Don Cherry called him "my type of guy."

Cherry was praising Bouma for his work ethic and blocking shots. "It's a pretty cool feeling because you grow up watching him, and you respect what he's saying as a kid," Bouma said. "To have him mention your name and talk good about you, that means a lot. That's pretty cool." Bouma has five goals, 14 points, 144 hits, and 67 blocks in 62 games this season.

Lance Bouma had a big game Saturday in the non-traditional stats as he blocked five shots and had three hits.

Bouma is third among NHL forwards with 64 blocked shots, trailing only Boyd Gordon who has 77, and the outstanding Ryan Getzlaf who sits at 71. "Lance was great at the two ends," coach Bob Hartley said. "Lots of blocked shots defensively and offensively, he had quite a few chances. As many chances as he's going to get, that's how he's going to improve offensively and find a way to get us some big goals." Bouma has five goals and 12 points this season with 37 penalty minutes in 60 games.

Forward Lance Bouma is the Calgary Flames' most improved player, coach Bob Hartley says.

"This guy didn’t play last year — knee surgery," Hartley noted. "We saw him in the gym, working every day. He showed up to camp in great shape, which was absolutely no surprise to us. He’s one of the first guys on the ice at practice. Game day, same thing. He’s committed to getting better. He wants to be an NHL player. He’s a gritty player willing to block shots. I have lots of time for Booms. His progression is far from a surprise." Now in his first full season in Calgary, Bouma has 10 points in 48 games.
Jan 25 - 9:23 AM

Lance Bouma found the back of the net in Calgary's 3-2 win on Wednesday.

Bouma has recorded at least a point in three of his last four games. He's not much of an offensive force and still has just four goals and 10 points in 47 contests this season.

Lance Bouma (illness) returned to practice on Saturday.

Bouma missed Friday's game with the illness. He has seven points and 25 penalty minutes in 37 games this season and as such should not be on your team in even deep pools.
Jan 5 - 7:23 AM

Lance Bouma probably won't play on Friday due to an illness.

Bouma has seven points and 25 penalty minutes in 37 games this season. He shouldn't be on your radar in standard leagues.
Jan 3 - 2:08 PM

Lance Bouma spent a total of six minutes in the sin bin over a pair of high-sticking incidents on Tuesday.

Bouma's actions proved to be fatal as the Boston Bruins capitalized on both power-play opportunities en route to a 2-0 victory. Still, Flames coach Bob Hartley rose to Bouma's defense after the contest. "Lance works so hard and is such a great young man to work with that we all felt badly," Hartley said. "On the bench during his second high-sticking penalty, we were saying, 'Come on, kill it for Boums." Bouma has seven points and 25 penalty minutes in 31 games this season.

Lance Bouma is projected to play on Calgary's top line on Thursday.

A series of injuries have forced the Flames to reorganize their lines. As recently as Sunday, Bouma was listed as a healthy scratch and even now we can't recommend grabbing him in standard leagues.

The Calgary Flames are tied for second in the NHL in blocked shots with 92 after five games.

The Flames are the surprise team in the NHL as it was originally thought that they were a bottom two team in the league, but they are off to a flying start with a 3-0-2 record. Lance Bouma's blocked shot late in the Flames 3-2 win on Friday was instrumental in the victory. "I'm not on top of the Saddledome yelling at the world that we need to block shots, but I'm in the (dressing) room telling them that we need to block shots," coach Bob Hartley said.

Lance Bouma's shift in the third period was game-changing for the Flames.

With the score tied 2-2, the Devils were pressuring the Flames, who were struggling to get the puck and were a tired, Bouma made two huge blocks. "Unbelievable," said coach Bob Hartley. "I felt that Booms should be in the goalie department (of the stat sheet). (T.J.) Galiardi and Bouma, they looked like two pretzels out there in front of the net. Just diving. I don’t know what kind of dancing it was, but I’m sure (Saturday) morning, there’s going to be a few bruises on those bodies." Calgary would go on to win 3-2.

Lance Bouma has completely recovered from his knee injury.

Bouma was limited to just three AHL games last season after tearing his ACL and MCL. "I've been skating for a while and, all the time, without any problems or pain," Bouma said. He agreed to a one-year, two-way deal with Calgary.
