Chris VandeVelde has fit in nicely for the Flyers on their fourth line.

The forward is playing alongside Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Ryan White and they have played so well, especially in the penalty kill department that more offensive-minded players like Vincent Lecavalier and Sam Gagner have been relegated to the press box. VandeVelde played for coach Dave Hakstol at the University of North Dakota and the familiarity cannot hurt his cause. VancdeVelde has only an assist in six games so do not pick him up in fantasy pools unless you are trying to lose.
Oct 24 - 9:00 AM

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed center Chris VandeVelde to a multi-year contract extension, general manager Ron Hextall announced Monday evening.

VandeVelde, 28, is coming off a breakout season in which he recorded nine goals and six assists for 15 points in 79 games. Before 2014-15, the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder had never appeared in more than 18 games in any of his previous four NHL seasons, and had posted a goal and three assists over 46 NHL games. VandeVelde was honored by his teammates at the end of the past season with the Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the Flyers’ most improved player from the previous season.
Jun 29 - 8:06 PM

Chris VandeVelde played four seasons at the University of North Dakota under new Flyers coach Dave Hakstol.

"I was at the rink working out when I found out. I was happy for him and pretty excited," said VandeVelde, who has skated the last two years for Philadelphia. "I definitely think we grew a good relationship. Coming in as a freshman you don't really know what to expect and he taught me a lot, and that relationship kind of grew through the four years there." He appeared in 72 games with the Flyers in 2014-15 and won the team's most improved player award.
May 27 - 6:43 PM

Chris VandeVelde won Philadelphia's Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Trophy, which goes to the team's most improved player.

The winner of the award is determined by a player vote. VandeVelde, 28, had been bouncing between the AHL and NHL for years going into the 2014-15 campaign, but he ended up playing in 72 contests with the Flyers this season. "It was pretty cool, especially that my teammates voted on it," VandeVelde said in reference to winning the trophy. "I think I came a long way from last year. I started the year down in Allentown and worked my way up. I had a pretty good season. It was a fun year and I enjoyed it." VandeVelde is set to be a free agent this summer, but he hopes to re-sign with Philadelphia. It will be interesting to see if he can secure a one-way contract after showing what he can do as a regular bottom-six forward this season.
Apr 20 - 9:59 AM

Chris VandeVelde scored his ninth goal of the season on Saturday.

VandeVelde scored only once last season in 46 games so his nine goals in 56 games this season is a vast improvement. He has 15 points this season so unless you are in a very, very, very deep league, he should not be on your team.
Mar 8 - 9:55 AM

Chris VandeVelde has five goals in his last seven games.

That is quite a streak from the bottom six forward as he now has eight goals and 13 points in 42 contests this season. If you are riding him during this hot streak, kudos to you.
Feb 8 - 10:53 AM

Chris VandeVelde scored for the Flyers in their 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes in Carolina Friday night.

It was VandeVelde's second goal of the season. The center made it 2-1 in the third period at 8:45 after wing Vinny Lecavalier did most of the work setting it up. Defenseman Mark Streit sent an outlet pass to Lecavalier, who weaved his way through the Carolina defense and set up Vandevelde with a drop pass at the left point. Vandevelde took a snap shot that beat Carolina goalie Cam Ward over his glove.
Jan 2 - 9:59 PM

Chris VandeVelde is dealing with a lower-body injury.

VandeVelde is projected to be a game-time decision on Friday as a result. He has a goal and four assists in 27 contests in 2014-15.
Jan 2 - 9:58 AM

Chris VandeVelde (lower body) returned to action on Saturday.

VandeVelde played for the first time since November 20 but it was not memorable as he was a minus-two in just 6:54 minutes of playing time. He has no fantasy value.
Sun, Nov 30, 2014 03:24:00 AM

Chris VandeVelde (lower body) is questionable Friday.

VandeVelde has been out for three straight games due to the ailment. He has a goal and three points in 14 contests this season.

The Philadelphia Flyers will be without forward Chris VandeVelde on Saturday.

It could be related to a rumored lower-body injury. JFYI as he isn't a major fantasy contributor.
Sat, Nov 22, 2014 05:09:00 PM

Chris Vandevelde is doubtful on Saturday with a lower body injury.

Vandevelde was seen on Thursday night limping as he left the dressing room. If he cannot go, look for Jason Akeson to draw into the lineup.
Sat, Nov 22, 2014 10:22:00 AM

Chris VandeVelde is expected to play alongside Vincent Lecavalier and R.J. Umberger on Saturday.

The Flyers briefly experimented with putting VandeVelde on the top line to fill in for the injured Michael Raffl, but that experiment didn't even last a full game. VandeVelde is still playing with two talented forwards though, so he's worth keeping on your radar.
Sat, Nov 8, 2014 11:08:00 AM

Chris VandeVelde skated on the top line during Wednesday's practice.

The Flyers needed to move someone to the first line because Michael Raffl sustained a lower-body injury that will sideline him for the next six weeks, but it's surprising that VandeVelde is the one who was selected for that role. The 27-year-old has played in just 54 games and isn't even an offensive standout at the AHL level. This situation is worth keeping an eye on, but we can't recommend picking up VandeVelde in standard leagues yet.
