The Philadelphia Flyers will be without forward Chris VandeVelde on Saturday.
It could be related to a rumored lower-body injury. JFYI as he isn't a major fantasy contributor. Nov 22 - 5:09 PM

Chris Vandevelde is doubtful on Saturday with a lower body injury.

Vandevelde was seen on Thursday night limping as he left the dressing room. If he cannot go, look for Jason Akeson to draw into the lineup.
Nov 22 - 10:22 AM

Chris VandeVelde is expected to play alongside Vincent Lecavalier and R.J. Umberger on Saturday.

The Flyers briefly experimented with putting VandeVelde on the top line to fill in for the injured Michael Raffl, but that experiment didn't even last a full game. VandeVelde is still playing with two talented forwards though, so he's worth keeping on your radar.

Chris VandeVelde skated on the top line during Wednesday's practice.

The Flyers needed to move someone to the first line because Michael Raffl sustained a lower-body injury that will sideline him for the next six weeks, but it's surprising that VandeVelde is the one who was selected for that role. The 27-year-old has played in just 54 games and isn't even an offensive standout at the AHL level. This situation is worth keeping an eye on, but we can't recommend picking up VandeVelde in standard leagues yet.
Nov 5 - 1:49 PM

Chris VandeVelde scored his first goal of the 2014-15 campaign on Tuesday.

VandeVelde now has two goals and six points in 51 career contests. As you might suspect, he's not worth owning in standard leagues.
Oct 29 - 9:10 AM

Chris VandeVelde could see his first action of the NHL season on Saturday.

If he does, it's likely as the fourth line center with Jason Akeson the likely man out of the lineup. VandeVelde was recalled on Friday after scoring twice in his AHL debut.
Oct 18 - 8:49 AM

The Philadelphia Flyers have summoned Chris VandeVelde.

VandeVelde had two goals in his 2014-15 debut with the AHL Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He's projected to either be a healthy scratch or the Flyers' fourth-line center on Saturday.
Oct 17 - 5:35 AM

Chris VandeVelde has agreed to a one-year, two-way deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.

VandeVelde will come with a $575,000 annual cap hit at the NHL level. He had an assist in 18 games with Philadelphia in 2013-14. He turned 27 in March and should be regarded as an organizational depth forward.
Jul 4 - 3:16 PM

Jan 29 - 12:59 PM

Chris VandeVelde played for the first time in five games on Saturday.

VandeVelde had been a healthy scratch in the previous four matchups. He saw fourth line minutes with Jay Rosehill and Adam Hall on his wings. He had no points in 10:34 minutes of play with a shot and a hit. He has one assist in seven NHL games this season.
Jan 5 - 9:32 AM

Chris VandeVelde is back up with the Philadelphia Flyers after signing a one-year contract with the big club.

He inked an AHL contract with the Phantoms during the summer. VandeVelde has seven goals and six assists in 23 minor-league games this season.

The Philadelphia Flyers have sent Chris Vandevelde to the minors.

It was thought that Vandevelde may have done enough in training camp to get one of the final forward spots but it was not to be. He will start the season in Adirondack with the Phantoms and could be one of the first callups when the Flyers run into injury problems.

Chris VandeVelde may have defied the odds and secured a spot for himself on the Philadelphia Flyers roster.

"No one knew much about him," writes Tim Panaccio, Flyers insider for "No one gave him much of a chance. No one thought he’d last this long, either." But, Panaccio continues, "unless another bomb drops from the Flyers' front office, the 26-year-old has won the vacant spot at left wing over Austrian Michael Raffl and Phantom/Flyer Tye McGinn." General manager Paul Holmgren said VandeVelde’s one advantage over Raffl, who has played his entire career in Europe, was North American experience -- 38 games in the NHL with Edmonton; 194 in the AHL. Flyers assistant GM Ron Hextall discovered VandeVelde, who played college hockey with Hextall’s son, Brett, at North Dakota. For fantasy purposes, leave VandeVelde alone. At least, for now. He might ended up surprising everyone again, but he'll be relegated to fourth-line status at the outset.
