Patrick Bordeleau might receive supplemental discipline for kneeing Minnesota's Jared Spurgeon in the third period of Thursday's game.
There was no penalty on the play. The incident follows Minnesota Wild forward Matt Cooke receiving a seven-game suspension for kneeing Tyson Barrie. Given that Bordeleau doesn't have a suspension history like Cooke and Spurgeon isn't expected to miss any playing time, Bordeleau's punishment won't be nearly as severe as Cooke's, if he's punished at all. Colorado tough guy Patrick Bordeleau has not fought since Dec. 5 because of a hand injury.

He suffered ligament damage to his left hand in a fight with Edmonton's Luke Gazdic on that night. The injury was kept a secret and Bordeleau says he's OK again to drop the gloves. "Now I can say it because it's gone, but I had an injury and couldn't fight for a long time," he said. "Now I can, but no one wants to go lately." He has seven points and 69 penalty minutes in 65 games this season.

Patrick Bordeleau inked a three-year deal with Colorado on Wednesday.

He led the team with 116 hits and finished second with 70 penalty minutes in 46 games with the Avalanche. It will be interesting to see where he fits in new coach Patrick Roy's lineup, but if he plays regularly on the fourth line then he could have value in fantasy leagues that benefit from hits and PIMs.

Patrick Bordeleau has taken up the role as Colorado's enforcer this campaign.

He leads the team with 111 hits and is ranked second with 66 penalty minutes. His willingness to drop the gloves has allowed Cody McLeod to succeed on a scoring line down the stretch. At 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, Bordeleau can take on the heavyweights which has helped free up McLeod, who classifies as a middleweight, to take on a different role. Bordeleau can become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but it's likely he gets retained by the Avalanche.

Patrick Bordeleau has carved out a role as an enforcer in the NHL.

The six-foot, six-inch 220 pound fourth liner finally has made it to the NHL as a 26-year-old and has now played four games in the league. His penalty minute totals went down in his three years in the AHL but that was due to the fact that nobody wanted to fight him anymore. "I liked Bordy because he can also play the game," coach Joe Sacco said. "He can skate and he can play defense and not embarrass you out there." Bordeleau has 17 penalty minutes thus far and if you are looking for the category, he is available.
