We wouldn't read too much into early training camp line combinations, but it's interesting to see coach Michel Therrien trying Thomas out on a scoring line. Thomas was acquired from the New York Rangers in July in exchange for fellow prospect Danny Kristo. He recorded 19 goals and 35 points in 73 games with AHL Connecticut last season.

The New York Rangers traded minor leaguee Christian Thomas to the Montreal Canadiens for prospect Danny Kristo.

Both players are former second-round picks and, at one point, much-hyped prospects. Kristo played in nine games with AHL Hamilton this season after graduating from the University of North Dakota. Thomas, on the other hand, turned pro this season and even made his NHL debut.

The Rangers selected him with the 40th overall pick in the 2010 NHL entry draft. Thomas has been playing his first year of AHL competition with the Connecticut Whale where he has 13 goals and 24 points in 52 games this season. He has not fantasy value this season.

Thomas has 13 goals and 24 points in 52 AHL games this season. He's the son of Steve Thomas, who had 933 points in 1,235 career contests. The younger Thomas might make his NHL debut on Saturday.

Christian Thomas' father, former NHLer Steve Thomas, believes playing in the AHL this season will be good for his son's development.

"He's playing in a league that is quite possibly the best in hockey right now," said Steve, who serves as an assistant coach with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch. "For my own son to be playing with and against such talented players, it will only help his development. It's really good hockey." The NHL lockout has left the AHL with an influx of players and some of them would've been on big-league rosters. Thomas has been playing his first year of AHL competition with the Connecticut Whale, where he has contributed six goals and five assists in 23 contests.

Thomas was a big-time scorer in the OHL before making the jump this year. It's taken him time to grow comfortable, with 11 points in 22 games. JT Miller also had an assist.

Christian Thomas scored the lone regulation goal for Connecticut in its 2-1 shootout win over Albany on Friday night.

Thomas' goal knotted it up with 1:55 left in regulation. Thomas lit up the OHL and after a very slow start is beginning to come around in the AHL with two goals and two assists.

Christian Thomas broke his goal drought with one Saturday in Connecticut's 6-3 loss.

The 5-foot-9 forward was a goal-scoring and point-producing machine in the OHL and now the Rangers' second-round pick from 2010 has to prove he can replicate that in North America despite being such a small player. Kyle Jean also had a goal to up his point total to six on the year.

The son of former NHLer Steve Thomas, amassed 54 goals and 45 assists in 66 games for the OHL's Oshawa Generals last season. The Rangers selected him with the 40th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Christian Thomas will report to OHL Oshawa after failing to make the Rangers' opening day roster.

Thomas was never expected to play in the NHL in 2010-11, but this season's training camp gave the Rangers an opportunity to get a better look at him. The Rangers selected him with the 40th overall pick in the 2010 NHL entry draft after he scored 41 goals and 66 points in 64 OHL games last season.
