Philippe Boucher announced his retirement today.
The 17-year veteran goes out as a Stanley Cup champion. "I have always admired athletes that have retired as champions and I am humbled to have the chance to count myself among them," said Boucher. "I would like to take this opportunity to thank my teammates, my coaches and the organizations I played with over the years. I am going to miss being with the boys." Boucher played in 748 regular season NHL games and 64 more in the playoffs. The defenseman managed 94 goals and 300 points in his career with his best season in 2006-07 as he scored 19 goals and added 32 assists to go along with 104 minutes in the penalty box. We wish him the best of luck in his retirement. Thu, Sep 3, 2009 04:59:00 PM

Philippe Boucher might play on Saturday against the Washington Capitals.

Boucher has only played in one of Pittsburgh's 10 playoff games, but he might fill in for Sergei Gonchar Saturday. Gonchar is doubtful for Saturday's game after suffering a knee-on-knee hit from Alex Ovechkin. Boucher had three goals and nine points in 41 games this season.

Philippe Boucher isn't expected to play in Saturday's game.

Boucher was activated off the injury reserve list eight days ago, but the Penguins still haven't used him in a game. "He's ready, but he also hasn't played in a long period of time, and so while we play well it's a difficult decision about when to get him in," interim coach Dan Bylsma said. He has two goals and seven points in 39 games this season.

Philippe Boucher has been activated off the injured list and could be used by the Penguins in a pinch.

He is still not fully recovered from a left foot injury, but is close. However, the Penguins are stacked on the blueline and are very happy with the play of their top six rearguards. The team will likely only need Boucher in an emergency situation.

Philippe Boucher reported no problems after he practiced for the first time since injuring his left foot.

He participated in Monday's practice with no ill effects. Boucher, who is on the long-term injured list, will need to get through a few more scrimmages before the team will consider activating him. It may even do Boucher some good to go to the AHL on a conditioning assignment.

Philippe Boucher, who is recovering from a broken left foot, hopes to begin skating in the very near future.

Whether that means next week or not is unclear. When Boucher does return to action he will fight for playing time as the Penguins are still loaded on the blueline even after the trade of Ryan Whitney.

The Penguins initially said Boucher was day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. However, he apparently suffered the injury in late December and presumably had been playing through it. Boucher is out indefinitely.

Philippe Boucher is slated to see power-play time for the Penguins, which should increase his fantasy value substantially.

"A guy like him who can move the puck and also shoot the puck well certainly can help us," Penguins' GM Ray Shero said. "And we can help him." He is the only other right-handed shot on the Pittsburgh blueline, besides Kris Letang, so that bodes well for him as well. Boucher may be in for a great resurgence after struggling in Dallas earlier this year, contributing just three assists in 16 contests.

The Stars have traded defenseman Philippe Boucher to the Penguins in exchange for defenseman Darryl Sydor.

This explains why Boucher was a healthy scratch against the Coyotes Saturday night. The teams have swapped two veteran blueliners who have both seen better days. However, Boucher, provied he is healthy, certainly has more left in his tank. He may benefit from playing alongside many of Pittsburgh's talented players, especially if he receives power-play ice time. Boucher's fantasy value can only go up as a result of this deal.
