Jean-Francois Berube will be the healthy scratch tonight when the New York Islanders host the Montreal Canadiens

The young goaltender will have to wait his turn to get into the rotation with Thomas Greiss getting the start tonight, and Jarslav Halak backing up.
Oct 26 - 7:01 PM

There's a chance that the New York Islanders might start the season with three goaltenders.

Jean-Francois Berube has a one-way contract along with Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss. The latter two will obviously be part of the team as long as there's no trade. There was talk about Halak being dealt, but that didn't materialize during the summer and the Islanders might be less inclined to ship him now given his strong showing in the World Cup. Right now Halak and Greiss are both still occupied with the World Cup, so Berube is the senior goalie in the Islanders' training camp. "I have no idea what’s going to come when those guys get back. I’m trying to focus on getting as much work in as I can and use this time to get prepared for the season," Berube said.

Jean-Francois Berube's recently signed one-year deal with the Islanders is a one-way contract.

That gives them three goalies signed to one-way deals, although that shouldn't imply that the Islanders plan on carrying three netminders. Berube's salary will be $675,000, so the Islanders can simply bury that contract in the minors if they so choose.
Jul 6 - 6:36 PM

Jean-Francois Berube has inked a one-year deal with the New York Islanders.

Berube had a 2.71 GAA and .914 save percentage in seven games with the Islanders last season. He's projected to be the organization's third-string goaltender.
Jul 6 - 11:37 AM

Jean-Francois Berube saw his first playoff action on Friday.

Berube was called into the game when starting goalie Thomas Greiss had the blade of his skate fall off and it could not be repaired on the ice. Berube came in for 4:47 while Greiss had his skate fixed in the dressing room and made two saves before Greiss returned to the game. Berube played in seven regular season games with the Islanders and had a 2.71 GAA with a .914 save percentage to go with a 3-2-0 record.
May 7 - 7:53 AM

Jean-Francois Berube (lower body) will be on the bench for Thursday's playoff opener.

He will serve as Thomas Greiss' backup after recovering from a lower-body injury.
Apr 14 - 4:07 PM

Jean-Francois Berube (lower body) was on the ice Wednesday morning.

Berube is getting close to being available for the Islanders. His presence would give the Islanders some more goaltending depth given that Jaroslav Halak (groin) won't play in the first round. Berube had a 2.71 GAA and .914 save percentage in seven regular season games with the Islanders.
Apr 13 - 11:24 AM

Jean-Francois Berube (lower body) skated on Thursday but didn't any shots.

Berube sustained his lower body injury during the 5-0 loss to the Penguins on Saturday but has been skating the past several days. He hopes to be ready to return to action in time for the Islanders playoff run.
Apr 8 - 9:53 AM

Jean-Francois Berube is listed as day-to-day because of a lower-body injury.

Christopher Gibson has been called up to take his place on the roster. Berube has a mark of 3-2-1 this season to go with a 2.71 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage.
Apr 4 - 10:26 AM

Jean-Francois Berube gave up five goals on 33 shots in Saturday's 5-0 loss to Pittsburgh.

Berube got things started off on the wrong foot when his horrible giveaway led to Oskar Sundqvist's first period goal. Things just went downhill from there. Berube has a 3-2-1 record with a 2.71 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage this season.
Apr 2 - 4:59 PM

Jean-Francois Berube will get the start in net against Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon.

The netminder is 3-1-1 this season with a 2.30 GAA and a .927 save percentage. The Islanders are hanging on to a playoff spot and need a big effort from Berube today.
Apr 2 - 11:40 AM

Jean-Francois Berube turned aside 33 of 36 shots in a 4-3 overtime victory over Carolina.

The Hurricanes managed just six shots in the second period, but all three of their markers were scored during that frame. Berube has a 2.30 GAA and .927 save percentage in six games.
Mar 26 - 10:03 PM

Jean-Francois Berube will face Carolina on Saturday night.

Through five games this season, including Wednesday's 22-save and 3-1 win over Ottawa, Berube has been quite good for the Islanders. He's seen just 10 pucks pass him on 141 combined shots and has earned eight of nine standings points across his four starts.
Mar 26 - 5:59 PM

Jean-Francois Berube played well Wednesday night and was the winning goalie in the New York Islanders' 3-1 victory over the visiting Ottawa Senators.

Berube stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced and improved his record to 2-1-1. The 24-year-old backup has a goals-against average of 2.19 and a save percentage of .929. Don't be surprised if Berube is assigned a few more starts before injured goalie Jaroslav Halak (groin) returns to action.
