Darren Archibald scored his first goal of the season in Tuesday's 5-4 setback against the Avalanche.

It was the first goal in six games this season for Archibald, and just the second of his NHL career spanning 22 contests. For now, the left winger is simply worth monitoring for fantasy purposes. Only if he is able to stick with the big club and see regular ice time would he be worth a fantasy roster spot in deeper pools.

Darren Archibald is encouraged by Canucks GM Jim Benning desired to add more "meat-and-potatoes" players to the team's lineup.

"That's the definition of my game," Archibald said. "I'm not out there trying to do anything fancy or make highlight-reel plays. My job is to be strong on the forecheck and bring pucks to the net." It wasn't long ago Archibald was struggling to even establish himself in the AHL, but he's coming off a strong season where he made his NHL debut and went on to record three points in 16 games with Vancouver.

Canucks coach John Tortorella will be looking for Darren Archibald to forge an identity for himself in the minors.

Archibald returned to the AHL after playing in three straight games with Vancouver. "I thought he had a couple of good shifts, but I don't know who he is," Tortorella said. "He is going to have to decide who he is if he is going to play in the National Hockey League. I don't say that in a negative way. We had a conversation and I hope when he comes back it's 'I'm going to show you who I am.' Then maybe he sticks, I don't know."
