Former Ottawa Senator Stephane Da Costa is lighting it up for CSKA in the KHL.

He decided he wasn't going to get a regular gig in the NHL to start the season and signed to play in Russia. In 15 games so far this season, Da Costa has scored 14 goals and registered 23 points. That's the kind of production that gets you noticed. Don't be surprised if an NHL team comes callilng once they have an injury problem or two.

Stephane Da Costa may head to the KHL, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.

He may head overseas because Ottawa reportedly isn't prepared to give him a one-way contract. He's set to become a restricted free agent in July. Da Costa spent most of the 2013-14 campaign in the minors with Binghamton, where he tallied 18 goals and 58 points in 56 matches.

Stephane Da Costa recorded two goals and two assists to lead France to a 6-2 win over Denmark on Monday at the 2014 World Hockey Championship.

He has picked up six goals and nine points in six games at the tournament. France will play in the quarterfinals for the first time since 1995 and the play of Da Costa and Antoine Roussel has been a big part of the team' success. Roussel leads the team in scoring, with 10 points, but Da Costa is right behind him.

France pulled off a shocking 3-2 shootout victory over Canada in the 2014 World Championship.

Canada has only ever lost to France once before and that came in 1995. Stephane Da Costa was the hero for the French, scoring two power-play goals in regulation. Cristobal Huet turned aside 34 shots to earn the win.

Da Costa has been a point-per-game player in the AHL this season, but he's still working to establish himself with Ottawa. He has three goals and four points in 12 NHL contests in 2013-14. He's eligible to play in the minors during the Olympic break.

Da Costa's third marker of the campaign opened the scoring, but the team wasn't able to get any more pucks behind Marc-Andre Fleury. Cory Conacher and Erik Condra drew assists on the tally.

Stephane Da Costa centered Ottawa's top line at the start of Wednesday's contest against Los Angeles.

He was filling for Jason Spezza, who sat out the game with a nagging groin problem. Coach Paul MacLean mixed up his line combinations throughout the night though and only his second unit (Clarke MacArthur-Kyle Turris-Cory Conacher) remained intact.

Stephane Da Costa is glad to be starting out the season with Ottawa, but he doesn't plan to be complacent.

"I'm definitely excited, but I'm not relieved yet," he said. "I'm on a two-way contract and I could go down tomorrow or in two months or in two weeks, so I've got to try my best to stay here all year." He practiced between Zack Smith and Chris Neil on Tuesday, but he isn't guaranteed to play in Friday's regular-season opener at Buffalo.

Stephane Da Costa's agent, Wade Arnott, says his client agreed to one-year contract with the Ottawa Senators.

The Sens extended a qualifying offer to Da Costa in late June after it was thought he might be moving on. There was also concern Da Costa might decide to head to Europe after playing in just nine NHL games last season. Da Costa could earn a role with the Senators in training camp, but he's unlikely to have any fantasy impact.

Stephane Da Costa was given a qualifying offer from Ottawa on Wednesday.

It was thought that his time in Ottawa could be over, but the Senators appear to still be interested in retaining his services. If Da Costa wants he can still bolt for Europe though. He had one goal and one assist in nine NHL appearances during the lockout-shortened season.
