Cam Atkinson notched a goal for the Blue Jackets in their 2-1 win over the Sharks on Saturday night.
Atkinson is proving that last year’s 21-goal, 40-point campaign was no fluke. The high-energy forward is on pace to build off that, with seven goals and 10 points this season. David Savard picked up the other goal. Adam Cracknell, Artem Anisimov, Jack Johnson and Boone Jenner got the assists. We could have a very exciting team in Columbus with a few more healthy bodies. The goal snapped a four-game scoring drought for the young sniper and came with four shots on goal, two penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating. He was one of the few bright spots for Columbus in the losing effort. David Savard was the only other scorer for the Blue Jackets on this night.

Cam Atkinson scored Columbus’ only goal in their 4-1 loss to Toronto on Friday night.

The goal was Atkinson’s fifth of the season. The 25-year-old had a breakout season last year, scoring 21 goals and 40 points in 79 games, but is currently on pace to obliterate those numbers. He likely won’t reach the 40-goal pace he is on, but a 25-goal season isn’t out of the question, if he can stay healthy.

Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson scored a goal in his return to the lineup Tuesday night, but the Blue Jackets dropped a 5-2 decision to Ottawa.

Atkinson suffered a very scary looking injury near his eye over the weekend so it's a surprise that he was able to return to quickly, let alone score. David Savard also found the back of the net for Columbus in the loss.

Cam Atkinson (eye) took part in an optional practice Monday.

Atkinson intends to play Tuesday night after missing Sunday's game due to a deep facial laceration. He right eyelid and cheek were cut by the skate blade of Ryan Kesler on Friday.
Oct 27 - 5:00 PM

Cam Atkinson considers himself lucky to be able to see after accidently getting cut below the eye by Ryan Kesler's skate on Friday.

The Jackets did not practice on Saturday so there was no update but he said after Friday's game that the skate did not cut his eyelid. Consider him day-to-day for now as we have no idea if he could even play on Sunday. He is not listed on the Blue Jackets probable line combinations according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Oct 26 - 7:31 AM

Cam Atkinson accidentally caught the back end of Ryan Kesler's stride below his right eye and on his eyelid, but did not sustain any threatening damage.

Todd Richards on Cam Atkinson, "He's not as pretty as he once was, but he's in good spirits." Said no apparent serious concern right now. "I can see. Thank God, I can see." Atkinson said. He skated just 12:05 with over two minutes on special teams in the Blue Jackets' 4-1 loss in Anaheim on Friday night.

Cam Atkinson didn't practice Wednesday, but he's expected to play Friday.

Coach Todd Richards said the Jackets winger was "nicked up." Atkinson has three goals on 13 shots and one assist in three games this season. Pick him up if he's available on waivers.
Oct 15 - 6:50 PM

Cam Atkinson was one of five Blue Jackets players to record two-point efforts in his team’s 5-2 win against the Rangers on Saturday night.

Atkinson scored twice, one via the empty net, in the win. He also had five shots on goal and plus-two rating. Atkinson is talented enough to build on a great season that saw him score 21 goals and record 40 points. A player with a high motor, Atkinson also continually puts himself in prime scoring positions on the ice, which helps his cause on offense. Nick Foligno (goal, assist), Marko Dano (goal, assist), Scott Hartnell (two helpers) and Ryan Johansen (two helpers) were the other two-point performers.
Oct 11 - 11:45 PM

Cam Atkinson put home the eventual winner Thursday night over Buffalo.

Atkinson was set up by Ryan Johansen on the powerplay at the 12:45 mark in the third to break the 1-1 tie. He saw 3:36 of powerplay time, with 15:38 total time.
Oct 9 - 11:53 PM

Cam Atkinson recorded a goal and an assist for Columbus in a 2-0 preseason win over the Penguins Tuesday night.

Atkinson has become a reliable regular for the Blue Jackets, but never experienced the massive breakout many predicted, making him an interesting post-hype sleeper. Michael Chaput also netted a goal and an assist in the win while Sergei Bobrovsky and Oscar Dansk combined to pitch a 42-save shutout.
Sep 23 - 9:48 PM

Cam Atkinson scored two goals in Columbus' 4-3 victory over Carolina in the 2014 preseason opener on Sunday.

Atkinson is looking to build off of breakout 2013-14 campaign where he scored 21 goals and 40 points in 79 games. He's worth keeping an eye on as he might end up getting plenty of ice time while Nathan Horton recovers from a back injury, but we still can't recommend drafting Atkinson in standard leagues.
Sep 21 - 4:04 PM

Cam Atkinson's shooting percentage dropped to 9.7 last season, but he still managed to score 21 goals.

If he gets some more puck luck then he could push the 30-goal mark, but he isn't a safe bet to reach that total in 2014-15. Atkinson is expected to play on one of the top three lines, but where is unclear with Nathan Horton and Scott Hartnell in the fold. He spent most of his five-on-five playing time with Brandon Dubinsky and Matt Calvert last campaign, which could lead to him lining up there again. If he earns a top-six forward spot then he's capable of closing in on the 50-point plateau.
Aug 22 - 4:10 PM

Cam Atkinson wasn't "impressed" with his performance in the playoffs.

Atkinson had a goal and two assists in six postseason games. "I just felt like, personally, I didn't play my game," Atkinson said. "When I’m playing well, I'm skating with and without the puck. I couldn't play my game for some reason. Making the playoffs was exciting, but I have a whole other level I can get to." Atkinson typically spends the summer training with Martin St. Louis other NHL players, but the Blue Jackets would prefer for their players to turn in Columbus over the offseason. Either way, he thinks his summer training will be important to getting off on the right foot in 2014-15.
