Cam Atkinson notched a goal and an assist in Sunday's 5-3 preseason loss to Nashville.
He scored on a second-period power play from Artemi Panarin and Alexander Wennberg. The trio combined for two goals and four assists in the contest. That bodes well for the start of the regular season because they expected to form Columbus' top line. Sep 24 - 5:51 PM

Cam Atkinson may get to play alongside Artemi Panarin and Alexander Wennberg.

Atkinson led the Blue Jackets with 35 goals and 62 points last season, so it's not surprising that he would get the first crack to play on what should be the team's top line.
Sep 13 - 2:21 PM

Cam Atkinson may occupy a different spot on Columbus' power play this season.

It's expected that Artemi Panarin will take Atkinson's spot at the left half-wall on the top power-play unit, but the plan could change. "Panarin has had a ton of success on that off side with his one-timer," assistant coach Brad Larsen said. "If I was going to say right now, I would say he's going to start there. Cam has done an outstanding job there and we might shift him into the middle. Again, there are going to be discussions and we haven't really gotten into it." Atkinson has tallied a team-leading 25 power-play goals over the last four seasons and he racked up 21 points on the man advantage last year. If he can't adjust to the new position then he could be moved to the second unit.

Cam Atkinson's pair of goals were not enough for the Blue Jackets on Sunday evening in a 5-4 overtime loss to Pittsburgh.

Atkinson's first two points of the postseason gave the Jackets a lead, which Pittsburgh was able to overcome and eventually put Columbus in an 0-3 series hole. The 27-year-old now has five points in nine career playoff games.
Apr 16 - 9:55 PM

Coach John Tortorella benched the Blue Jackets leading scorer Cam Atkinson for the last 13 minutes of Saturday's game.

Atkinson had a bad turnover which led to a Flyers goal and that was the last the winger saw of the ice Saturday. "The way Cam was playing at the time, it wasn’t helping him (to play)," coach John Tortorella said. "I’m trying to save him." Atkinson has 34 goals and 61 points this season but has a goal and no assists in his last 11 games. He will need to get a lot better if the Blue Jackets hope to defeat Pittsburgh in the first round of the playoffs.
Apr 9 - 7:14 AM

Cam Atkinson has been quiet lately with a goal and no assists in his last nine games.

Atkinson's slump is made more noticeable by the fact that Columbus as a team has been struggling offensively lately. "It is pretty frustrating we can’t score more than one goal, but I really don’t know what it is," said Atkinson. "I really don’t have an answer." The Blue Jackets are on a four-game losing streak with three games remaining in their regular season schedule. It would be helpful for morale if they finish strong, but the big thing is for them to find their scoring touch in the first round of the playoffs.
Apr 6 - 10:22 AM

Cam Atkinson scored the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Atkinson's goal gave the Jackets a 2-0 lead late in the first period. He finished the game with a plus-2 rating and two shots on goal in 18:06 of ice time. Atkinson now has 34 goals and 61 points in 75 games. Kyle Quincey and Brandon Saad also scored for Columbus.
Mar 28 - 9:53 PM

Cam Atkinson scored his third overtime winner during Saturday's 3-2 overtime victory over the Islanders.

It was his 33rd goal of the season, giving him 60 points in 70 games thus far. Quite the breakout campaign to say the least as he's now up to seven total winners on the year.
Mar 18 - 5:39 PM

Forward Cam Atkinson scored two goals, his 31st and 32nd of the season, to help the Columbus Blue Jackets defeat the Flyers 5-3 in Philadelphia Monday night.

Zach Werenski had a goal (10th) and an assist (33rd) for Columbus and Seth Jones contributed two assists (28th and 29th) as the Blue Jackets won their 44th game of the season and hit the 94-point mark, both single-season franchise records. Their previous records were 43 wins and 93 points, set in 2013-14. Brandon Dubinsky scored the game-winning goal Monday, breaking a 3-3 tie with his 10th of the season at 8:46 of the third period. Sam Gagner had the first goal of the night, giving Columbus a 1-0 lead with his 18th goal of the season at 7:42 of the first period.
Mar 13 - 11:07 PM

Cam Atkinson escaped with just a cut after Marcus Foligno's skate sliced open his shoulder blade.

Atkinson was taken to the dressing room and 17 stitches were required to close the cut. He returned to action and almost tied the game with less than a minutes to go but a great save by Robin Lehner preserved the win for Buffalo. "I definitely have a couple of guardian angels looking out for me," said Atkinson. "I got a skate to the face a couple of years ago and it didn't touch my eye. This, it could have been my neck, it could have been other damage, nerve damage. I've got to just count my lucky stars." Atkinson is having a career year as he has 30 goals and 57 points. With 15 games left in the season, both are already career highs.
Mar 12 - 8:37 AM

Cam Atkinson reached the 30-goal milestone on Tuesday.

Atkinson is the seventh Columbus player to ever enjoy a 30-goal campaign. He still has an outside chance of reaching the 40-goal mark too, which would make him the second Blue Jackets player to accomplish that feat after Rick Nash did it in 2003-04 and 2008-09.
Mar 8 - 8:30 AM

Cam Atkinson is on the brink of pulling off a rare feat for a Blue Jackets player: A 30-goal season.

Atkinson is currently sitting at the 29-goal mark. Assuming he does find the back of the net at least one more time, he'll become the seventh Columbus player to ever do so. Rick Nash is the only Blue Jackets player to ever reach the 40-goal mark, having done so in 2003-04 and 2008-09.
Feb 28 - 5:40 AM

Cam Atkinson snapped his five-game goal drought with a pair of tallies in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Rangers.

Mark it now 29 goals and a new career high in markers for Atkinson, who, if you can believe it, nearly didn't go to the All-Star game. He also matched his career high of 53 points in 60 games thus far.
Feb 26 - 9:03 PM

Cam Atkinson's line, with Brandon Dubinsky and Boone Jenner, has amassed six goals and 14 points in the last five games.

Atkinson has scored three times over that span to hit 27 goals for the second straight season. The rest of the team has three goals during that five-game stretch. "Our line has taken over a little bit as far as working hard and trying to gain momentum and scoring goals and having success," Atkinson said. "It's great right now but all of us are going to have to contribute. When we do, it's going to be crazy."
Feb 13 - 5:58 PM

Cam Atkinson matched his career high of 27 goals with a tally in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Red Wings.

He also has 49 points this season, and needs five more to set a new career high in that category as well. Suffice it to say, this is Atkinson's best campaign yet.
