Andy Miele has inked a one-year, $575,000 deal with the Detroit Red Wings.

It's a one-way agreement, which helps his chances of spending the full 2014-15 campaign with Detroit. He's an interesting case because at the age of 27 he has only participated in 15 NHL games. However, he excelled during his tenure with Miami University (Ohio) and has reached the 70-point mark in back-to-back AHL seasons.

Andy Miele has signed with the Detroit Red Wings.

He'll probably be in the minors next season with Grand Rapids after he skated in 70 games with the Coyotes' AHL affiliate in Portland in 2013-14. He had 27 goals and 72 points last year and he earned two assists in seven NHL outings.

Miele has two assists in seven games this season. The 25-year-old forward has been a star in the minors, but it's looking less and less like he'll be able to establish himself as a regular in the NHL.

Coach Dave Tippett was very pleased with Andy Miele's all-round game on Tuesday.

Miele had two assists in his first NHL game of the season but Tippett thought that his play all over the ice had improved. "He's a top scorer, top player down there, but the way his game has matured is he's played all over the ice," Tippett said. "As a young player coming out of college, there was lots of work to be done in the 'D' zone, lots of work on faceoffs, but he's put that work in. Miele had eight points in five AHL games before his recall.

Andy Miele registered two assists in the Coyotes' 3-1 victory over the Kings Tuesday night.

Miele played his first game of the season for the Coyotes and immediately contributed with two assists. He played only 10:14 but played 1:37 on power play. Miele could be sent down to the minors when Lauri Korpikoski, Martin Hanzal and Jeff Halpern return to the roster. Kyle Chipchura also had a strong game with a goal and an assist, while Shane Doan and Derek Morris also scored for the Coyotes. It was Doan's 100th career power-play goal.

Coyotes general manager Don Maloney called Andy Miele the MVP of the day at the team's rookie camp.

"Every time he had the puck he was in control and it looked easy for him," Maloney said. It seems as if the 25-year-old will get a great shot to make the NHL squad -- Maloney said four to six players could wind up playing for the Coyotes this season, according to the Arizona Republic's Sarah McLellan. Though he had 19 goals and 34 assists in the AHL last year, it remains to be seen how his limited size -- 5-foot-8, 175 pounds, will fare in the NHL over a long stretch (he has eight games under his belt).
