Matt Frattin is considered to be in the running to compete for a top-six forward job at training camp.
"That's (coach Randy) Carlyle’s call," said Frattin. "I just have to come out here and play like I can and wherever they can fit me in, that's where I have to go and try and get as much ice as I can. I'm a well-rounded guy who can come with speed. The biggest thing is to build chemistry with guys you can stick with. They've brought a lot of guys in and everyone's going to be fighting for jobs." He had some chemistry with Nazem Kadri during the lockout-shortened season and could be a fit there. However, that spot may be David Clarkson's to lose. Off-season additions David Booth and Mike Santorelli are expected to battle for a second-line spot as well. Sep 3 - 10:47 AM

Matt Frattin is excited to be back in Toronto.

"You don't hear too many times of a player coming back to a team just a year after leaving," he said. "You definitely see the good players you are traded for and want to show people that you have your own value." Frattin feels he learned some good defensive tricks from Kings coach Darryl Sutter. He's also working on his speed and strength over the summer.

Jul 4 - 8:38 AM

Matt Frattin has inked a two-year contract with the Maple Leafs.

He was reacquired by Toronto earlier in the day for Jerry D'Amigo and a conditional seventh round draft pick in 2015. Frattin was a restricted free agent.
Jul 1 - 6:00 PM

The Toronto Maple Leafs have re-acquired Matt Frattin.

The Maple Leafs gave Columbus Jerry D'Amigo and a conditional seventh-round pick in exchange for Frattin who was dealt from Toronto last summer as part of the trade for goaltender Jonathan Bernier. Frattin struggled mightily this season as he scored twice and added four assists with the Kings before LA sent him to Columbus as part of the Marian Gaborik trade. He ended the season with two goals and seven points in 44 games but hopes to regain his game with Toronto.
Jul 1 - 1:32 PM

The Columbus Blue Jackets have until 5 pm on Monday to decide whether or not to offer restricted free agent Matt Frattin a contract or allow him to become an unrestricted free agent.

Frattin bounced around this past season as the Maple Leafs traded him to the Kings for Jonathan Bernier during the 2013 off-season while the Kings sent him to Columbus at the trade deadline as part of the Marian Gaborik trade. He was a huge disappointment with only two goals and five assists in 44 games in 2013-14. Do not be surprised if he is allowed to hit free agency tomorrow.
Jun 30 - 7:34 AM

Matt Frattin will get out of the press box on Friday.

The Blue Jackets haven't used Frattin since March 13. He was acquired from Los Angeles on March 5 as part of the Marian Gaborik trade.
Apr 4 - 12:40 PM

Matt Frattin has spent Columbus' last four games in the press box.

The Blue Jackets acquired Frattin from the Los Angeles Kings as part of the Marian Gaborik deal and that's been bad news for the 26-year-old forward so far. He has appeared in just two games with Columbus and has averaged only 11:32 minutes when he does play.
Mar 22 - 9:54 AM

Matt Frattin was a healthy scratch on Saturday.

Frattin was acquired by the Blue Jackets on Wednesday as part of the Marian Gaborik trade. He played Thursday for the first time in a month before finding himself back in the press box Saturday as he had been on numerous occasions this season with the Kings. He has two goals and six points in a forgettable season. Hopefully he can turn it around next season and get his NHL career back on track.
Mar 9 - 7:27 AM

Matt Frattin is slated to play on the fourth line in his Columbus debut Thursday night.

He'll play with Derek MacKenzie and Mark Letestu. Frattin was acquired from Los Angeles as part of the Marian Gaborik trade on Wednesday.
Mar 6 - 5:19 PM

Matt Frattin will likely serve as a bottom-six forward with Columbus.

Columbus acquired Frattin as part of the Marian Gaborik trade. Frattin had just six points in 40 games with Los Angeles this season, but the change of scenery might do him some good.
Mar 6 - 9:43 AM

Matt Frattin has been dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets with a couple of draft picks in exchange for Marian Gaborik.

Frattin was highly sought after by the Kings in the last couple of seasons and they finally got him, along with Ben Scrivens for Jonathan Bernier. Well the Kings have now dealt both Frattin and Scrivens. Frattin was a huge disappointment this season with only two goals and six points in 40 games. The Kings will give up the second round pick they acquired from Toronto in the Frattin deal and a conditional third that is reliant on the Kings going past the first round or Gaborik re-signs with Los Angeles.
Mar 5 - 1:35 PM

Matt Frattin joined Matt Greene and Jordan Nolan as healthy scratches Saturday.

Frattin has been a healthy scratch in seven of the Kings last nine games and 17 times this season. He was acquired from the Maple Leafs with Ben Scrivens and a second round pick in either 2014 or 2015 for Jonathan Bernier in what has been a steal for Toronto thus far. Frattin has only two goals and six points in 40 games and has not had a point since November 19 when he had a goal and an assist against the Lightning.
Mar 2 - 7:52 AM

Matt Frattin played only 7:06 minutes on Saturday, a career low.

Frattin has not played a lot since returning from a lower body injury three games ago as he sat out four straight games. He is averaging only 8:23 minutes per game since he came back earlier in the week and with only two goals and six points in 25 games, it is impossible to recommend him in fantasy pools.

Matt Frattin returned from a lower-body injury on Monday.

Frattin was sidelined for four straight contests. He had three shots on goal and logged 9:07 minutes in the Kings' 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues.
Tue, Dec 3, 2013 10:33:00 AM

The Los Angeles Kings have had only one goal scored from their bottom six forwards in the last five games.

That goal was scored by the injured Matt Frattin who scored during the power play so in fact the Kings have received no goals in that time frame in even strength situations. Frattin has two goals and six points in 22 games with a minus-seven rating. He will not play on Monday.
