Brad Malone was a late addition to Carolina's lineup Friday night against the Rangers.

Malone steps in for the ill Riley Nash, and he comes with a modicum of fantasy value. Malone has produced 48 PIMs and 79 hits in 35 games this season, which ain't too shabby if you need a tough guy plug.

Brad Malone is a healthy scratch in Thursday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Brad Malone won't be suspended for his blindside hit on Nick Foligno.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety decided that Malone's hit wasn't illegal. Here's the league's explanation of the hit: "while this hit is forceful and delivered from the blindside, this hit doesn't violate any NHL rule. The hit is delivered immediately after Foligno moves the puck, well within the acceptable time frame to deliver a body check. Malone also keeps his elbow tucked and his skates on the ice in delivering this hit."

Brad Malone could be getting a call from the NHL disciplinary board for his blind side hit on the Blue Jackets Nick Foligno.

Brandon Dubinsky came to Foligno's defense and fought Malone a little later in the game. The two teams meet again on Saturday and if Malone is in the lineup, there could be another fight. Malone has two goals and five points in 30 games with 39 penalty minutes. He was not given a penalty for his hit on Foligno.

Malone has compiled five points, 32 PIMs, and 58 hits over 32 games this season, which probably isn't enough to warrant a slot on your squad.

Brad Malone and Michal Jordan will be scratched on Sunday against Chicago.

Brad Malone and Michal Jordan will each be scratched for Friday's tilt with the Stars.

While Jordan has yet to post any numbers through seven games, Malone has at least put up 18 hits and two assists in nine games thus far. Not great, but usable in a one-day filler for depth.

After beating the Islanders 3-2 on Thursday night, Coach Peters has elected to not make any lineup changes against Colorado on Friday night.

That means that Brad Malone, Joakim Nordstrom, and Michal Jordan will be in the stands once again. And should probably remain on the waiver wire as well.

Brad Malone's past experience with concussions isn't making him consider retirement of alter his style of play.

The subject came up in relation to Chris Borland, a 24-year-old football player who was healthy, but had suffered two concussions in the past and decided to retire in an attempt to avoid future neurological problems. The question is if we might see ever see one or more NHL players retire under similar circumstances, but if we do it won't be 25-year-old Malone. "It's a sacrifice I guess I'm willing to make," Malone said of exposing himself to the risk of head injuries. "It's one of those things where you know the risk but you don't want to think about it, right? If that situation was affecting my life at home and the people around me, away from the rink and at the rink, then I think that's when I sit down and sort of reevaluate. Until that time I think you kind of deal with the blows or the situation at hand."
