Justin Faulk was named as the Hurricanes' Most Valuable Player this season by the Carolina chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association

That is quite the honor. We have long been touting Faulk as a prospect to keep an eye on. It seems he is finally beginning to get widespread recognition amongst the hockey community. Faulk, who has registered 15 points in 37 games this campaign, will make a nice sleeper pick at draft tables next season.

The Carolina Hurricanes likely need a bit of a makeover on defense in order to get back into the playoffs.

Justin Faulk is considered to be the team's best defender and he has only 102 career games under his belt going into the final two contests of the 2013 campaign. His plus-3 rating leads the club's defense corps and his 15 points trails only Joe Corvo, who is a free agent this summer. Losing Cam Ward didn't help the Hurricanes when it came to preventing goals, but their personnel on the back end could use a shake up heading into next year and it's something to watch over the summer.
Apr 25 - 9:57 AM

Justin Faulk generated a goal and an assist in Tuesday's loss to Ottawa.

He has racked up eight shots, three points and a plus-2 rating in his past two contests. Faulk has averaged 23:29 of ice time per game this season and he should be on everyone's radar next year even though he didn't exactly shine during the NHL's lockout-shortened campaign.

Carolina Hurricanes activate Justin Faulk (knee) off injured reserve.

Faulk will play Tuesday night after being sidelined since March 19 with a sprained knee. He'll be a big boost to a Carolina team currently sliding way down the standings.
Apr 9 - 4:27 PM

Justin Faulk (knee) will make his return to the lineup Tuesday night.

Faulk has been sidelined since March 19 with a sprained knee. Coincidentally, the Hurricanes have gone into a tailspin since he was hurt, a sign of how much he means to their blue line. Faulk has three goals and 10 points in 28 games this season.
Apr 9 - 1:16 PM

Justin Faulk could be able to return by next week from his knee injury.

"He's headed in the right direction and moving along good," coach Kirk Muller said. "It's a matter of grinding through it every day to where he gets comfortable to fight through the pain and be healthy enough to get playing." He skated with the team on Thursday. Faulk has missed the past six games with a sprained knee.
Apr 4 - 2:04 PM

Carolina GM Jim Rutherford said Wednesday that the team has sorely missed sophomore defenseman Justin Faulk.

"The guy that we miss the most is Faulk. To me, he's our No. 1 defenseman," Rutherford said. "When he's in the lineup, he makes a difference. We talk about missing Cam, but I'd say Justin Faulk falls right in line with Cam as a guy who has really hurt us being out of the lineup." He hasn't played since March 19 due to a sprained knee and he's projected timeline to return was set at two to four weeks.
Apr 4 - 10:17 AM

Justin Faulk is projected to miss two to four weeks because of a sprained knee.

He suffered a second-degree sprain of a medial collateral ligament Tuesday after he was checked along the boards by Florida's Jack Skille. Faulk has three goals, 10 points and 49 shots in 28 games from the blueline this season.
Mar 20 - 1:50 PM

Justin Faulk suffered a lower-body injury in the second period Tuesday night and wasn't able to return to the game.

Coach Kirk Muller did not have an update on the injury after the match, so stay tuned.
Mar 20 - 10:14 AM

Justin Faulk has three goals and 10 points in 25 games this season.

Faulk is having a solid sophomore season after recording 22 points in 66 contests in 2011-12. He still has some offensive upside, which makes him a nice guy to hold onto in deeper keeper leagues. That being said, he's unlikely to increase his current point-per-game pace this season.
Mar 16 - 4:49 PM

Justin Faulk returned to the Hurricanes' lineup Friday night against Ottawa.

He missed Monday's game with an upper body injury but seems fine after logging an impressive 25:08 of ice time against the Senators including a team-high 5:29 on the power play. Activate Faulk immediately.
Feb 2 - 1:57 AM

Justin Faulk (upper body) practiced on Wednesday and could play Friday if he gets into some contact work.

His status should become clearer after Thursday's session. Faulk suffered an upper-body injury last Friday and he didn't play on Monday.
Jan 31 - 10:10 AM

Justin Faulk will not play Monday night due to an upper-body injury he sustained on Friday.

Coach Kirk Muller ruled him out of the contest despite the fact that he practiced with the team on Sunday and Monday morning. It doesn't sound like he'll be out for very long. Bob Sanguinetti, who was a healthy scratch last game, will suit up in Faulk's place.
Jan 28 - 4:39 PM

Justin Faulk participated in nearly all of Sunday's practice drills after leaving last Friday's contest with an upper-body injury.

Faulk said he felt OK physically afterward. However, the team will wait until after their morning session before announcing his status for Monday night's game against Boston.
