Fontaine scored his ninth, 10th and 11th goals of the season, and Matt Cooke and Nino Niederreiter each had a pair of assists for the Wild. It was Fontaine's first NHL hat trick and he is now third in team goals behind Zach Parise and Jason Pominville. Kyle Brodzik also scored in the victory.

Justin Fontaine scored his second goal of the season after he was elevated to Minnesota's top line.

Coach Mike Yeo said he liked the way Nino Niederreiter was playing with Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu, but he wanted to shake things up to try to get something going. Fontaine responded by scoring the game-winning goal late in the second period to help the Wild earn a 2-0 win over Nashville. He logged a season-high 16:39 of ice time and finished with four shots on goal.
