Flyers general manager Ron Hextall continues to try to trade a veteran defenseman.
The Flyers have $583,334 in salary-cap space, according to generalfanager.com. In this situation, it makes it harder for a young defensive prospect to make the team. "In a perfect world, we’d find some space, but we’re under the cap and if we start the season where we are at, we’re comfortable," Hextall said. "It’s not ideal. But we’re in a situation where we can manage it." Jul 18 - 8:32 PM

Flyers GM Ron Hextall admitted he put a lot of thought into whether or not it would be an awkward situation before his son, Brett Hextall, signed an AHL team within Philadelphia's organization.

"Obviously I know Brett's character inside and out," Ron Hextall said. "He plays the game hard . . . and plays with a lot of sandpaper. Once we got some of the top guys signed there and some of our kids in place, that was the element we felt we needed - and Brett happened to be [available]. He's excited, and so is his mom." The younger Hextall had 23 points and 83 penalty minutes in 59 games in 2013-14. He's not a good bet to play for Philadelphia at all this season.
