Patrik Nemeth is expected to join the Texas Stars of the AHL this week.

"They have a five-game stretch there that will end in Austin, so he'll join them and play some games and we'll see where he is at that time," Stars GM Jim Nill said. Patrik Nemeth (arm) may be able to return sometime in March.

Nemeth has missed most of the season because he suffered an arm laceration on October 18th. The 22-year-old hasn't registered a point in eight career NHL games, so his fantasy value will be non-existent if he does return. The 22-year-old was Dallas' second round pick in 2010. Nemeth's return would definitely be a feel-good story.

Patrik Nemeth (arm) is working hard in an attempt to return at some point this season.

He was initially slated to miss the rest of the year after his arm was cut by a skate back on Oct. 18. "He's bound and determined to make the doctor's prognosis wrong. I always find that a good thing," coach Lindy Ruff said. "He feels he should be able to go harder, and the recommendation is to make sure everything is healed properly first, which I understand all that, but I like what he's doing. I like how hard he's working. That type of attitude is contagious, and it's something you want around your team."

Patrik Nemeth (arm) will miss the rest of the regular season.

That's troubling news for the promising 22-year-old defenseman. Nemeth's arm was cut by a skate in Saturday's game against Philadelphia and it will cost him the remainder of the 2014-15 campaign after just five appearances.

Patrik Nemeth will miss the rest of Saturday night’s game against the Flyers after suffering an arm laceration.

The injury occurred in the first period as Philadelphia forward R.J. Umberger lost his balance when the two players came together and his skate came up and cut Nemeth’s arm. It's unclear how serious this injury is, but the fact the Stars announced he'd miss the rest of the game so quickly, could be telling. Nemeth, who had seen 23 seconds of ice time, was playing in his 13th career NHL game.

"When you go far in the playoffs, you always get confidence," said Nemeth. "You’ve always got to work hard during the summer and get ready for the new season." Stars GM Jim Nill believes Patrik Nemeth's experience in the AHL playoffs will be a valuable part of his development.

"Playoff hockey in the American League is tough hockey," Nill said. "It's tough travel — three games in four nights. It's a grind. There have been high-pressure games, overtime games, Game 7s. It's been great for his development — and a lot of others." Nemeth helped the Texas Stars win the Calder Cup in the AHL postseason and he'll compete for an NHL roster spot in the fall. He skated in eight games with Dallas during the regular season and another five in the playoffs last year.
