Coach Bob Hartley has put Roman Horak, Roman Cervenka and Jiri Hudler together to form a "Czeching Line".

The three natives of the Czech Republic will hopefully mesh well together. Hudler grew up being a big fan of Horak's dad, also named Roman, who played in Europe his whole career and scored three goals at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics. "They're both skilled and really smart players, so I'm going to try to fit in and be a young guy who tries to fly around and pass to them and let them create," Horak said. "Obviously, I watched them play, so I know who they are, and I'm just trying to fit. (Cervenka) has been playing the Czech league and in Russia, so I watched him. And they both play for the national team, so whenever there is a world championship or something like that, you can watch that on TV. So I, obviously, saw that they're both great, great players." Horak has a goal and an assist in five games and the Flames are still high on the youngster.

Roman Horak netted his first goal of the season on Sunday.

Horak has two points in four games this season. He's averaged just 12:16 minutes per contest and was on the ice for only 9:47 on Sunday, so we can't recommend picking him up at this time.
Feb 18 - 8:44 AM

Roman Horak might get a chance to play alongside Jarome Iginla and Curtis Glencross.

Horak was called up by the Calgary Flames on Thursday. He has 14 goals and 21 points in 43 AHL games this season, but he had just 11 points in 61 contests with the Flames in 2011-12. Still, this could be a golden opportunity to show what he can do offensively. "It’s all a matter of being productive," Flames coach Bob Hartley said. "I’ve watched plenty of games during the work stoppage. I want to look at them and see what they’re going to do for us from now on. What they did last year or five years ago, it’s all over. It’s a new start."

Roman Horak has been summoned from the minors by Calgary.

Feb 14 - 5:02 PM

Roman Horak was reassigned to AHL Abbotsford on Wednesday evening.

He played in Calgary's previous two contests prior to being sent down ahead of Wednesday's match against Vancouver. Horak had one assist and three shots with the Flames over that span.

Roman Horak scored a goal and registered an assist in the Abbotsford Heat's 3-2 win against the Toronto Marlies.

Horak has 13 goals and 17 points in 23 AHL contests this season. He got off to a hot start with 10 goals in his first nine games before promptly cooling off for the majority of November.

Roman Horak had a hat trick in the Abbotsford Heat's 4-2 victory over the Toronto Marlies on Friday.

Horak now has an AHL-leading 10 goals in just nine games. To put that into context, he had two goals in 14 AHL games last season and another three goals in 61 NHL games. If Horak can continue to find the back of the net with some regularity over the coming weeks and months, then he might play a bigger role with the Calgary Flames when the lockout ends.

Roman Horak has been showing off his versatility in the AHL.

"I’ve used him on right wing," Heat head coach Troy Ward said. "I’ve used him on the fourth line. I used him the other day at center when I sat Ben Walter. I’ve used him at left wing. I’ve pretty much played him everywhere, and he’s still been able to score, and he’s still been able to put up good numbers. On Sunday, after three games in three days, he led us with eight shots." Horak has excelled despite the constant changes to his role. He has seven goals and eight points in just seven AHL contests.

Roman Horak has seven goals in the early going and is tied for the AHL lead with Drayson Bowman.

Both players also have only one assist. Horak only had three goals and 11 assists in 61 NHL games last season, his first professional season in North America after playing in the WHL the previous year. He could be a big surprise this season if there is an NHL season, in the meantime he is getting a lot of valuable experience playing in the AHL.

Roman Horak now has four goals in four games for Abbotsford of the AHL.

Horak spent last season with the Flames where he managed three goals and 11 assists in 61 games and played 22 games with Abbotsford including the playoffs, potting two. "The biggest thing I've seen from (Horak) is consistency, and that's what I didn't see last year," Heat coach Troy Ward said. "We forget that fatigue is more mental than it is physical for a lot of young players. I think last year, he was just a tired guy mentally when he got here. This year, I see him fresh. I see him consistent. I see him much harder around the puck. I think he's embracing where he is and he's trying to tell everybody, 'I'm here but last year wasn't a fluke and I want to go back up. (Calgary) is where I want to play'." Look for Horak to crack the Flames lineup when the NHL resumes play.

The Calgary Flames have sent Roman Horak to Abbotsford of the AHL.

Horak was a healthy scratch the last three games and has put up 11 points in his rookie season in the NHL in a total of 61 games. The Flames like his offensive potential and with Calgary an aging team, he will get a chance at top six minutes as early as next season.
