Mattias Ekholm has been skating alongside Yannick Weber at training camp.

The Predators will need to make some adjustments going into the season because of Ryan Ellis' knee injury. "You just have to respect the process that it takes to get a new partner and build that chemistry that me and Ellis had and that I had with P.K.," Ekholm said. "It doesn't go overnight." Ekholm formed a solid shutdown pair with P.K. Subban last season. Subban has been skating with Alexei Emelin at practices.

Mattias Ekholm's goal on Saturday ended a 42-game goal scoring drought.

Ekholm had been setting up markers though, so that goal was also his 10th point in 19 playoff contests. He's the fourth Predators defenseman to reach double-digits in points in the 2017 playoffs, making Nashville the third team to ever have four blueliners reach that milestone in the same postseason run. The other two were the 1984 Edmonton Oilers and 1993 Los Angeles Kings.
Jun 5 - 10:34 AM

Mattias Ekholm scored once, assisted on another and had 12 penalty minutes on Saturday.

It was Ekholm's first goal of the playoffs this season as he became the 19th Predator to find the back of the net in the 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs. Ekholm is a stud on the Nashville blueline and with a goal and 10 points thus far, he has been a great contributor to your playoff fantasy team if you drafted him.
Jun 4 - 7:39 AM

Mattias Ekholm commented on Ryan Johansen's injury at the pre-game press conference ahead of Game 5.

Ekholm stated that he wasn't aware Johansen was injured in Game 4 and that "it apparently wasn't that big of a hit" that knocked the star center out for the remainder of the playoffs. The Predators will need their skilled defensemen to contribute offensively if they want to get to the Stanley Cup Final.

Mattias Ekholm led Nashville with 29:11 of playing time on Thursday night.

The Predators lost Roman Josi to an upper-body injury in the match, so Ekholm was called upon to step up with P.K. Subban also missing. "I don't know if (Josi's) back next game or how long it is," Ekholm said. "If he's not, then we'll manage that. I think we've got guys that can come up and step up, and we saw it tonight." He had an assist and a plus-2 rating in Nashville's 2-1 win.

The Nashville Predators have a group of defensemen that can move the puck and join the rush.

P.K. Subban, Mattias Ekholm, Roman Josi and Ryan Ellis make up the team's top four blue liners and each of those players is capable of moving the puck efficiently. "We’re that way," Ekholm said. "We still can defend, and we’re pretty solid at that, but our strength is carrying the puck up and wanting to go on the attack. … Maybe that’s what’s happening with a lot of the stay-at-home defensemen. The speed is too fast right now. All of the defensemen on this team can really defend and join the rush." There's no doubt that Nashville has one of the top groups of defensemen in the NHL right now.

It looks as if the Mattias Ekholm and P.K. Subban partnership is off to a good start.

The two looked great togehter in the Preds'4-3 win over the Lightning Saturday night. Subban registered a goal and an assist but was less impressed with his performance than that of Ekholm, whom he called a "stud". Look for this to be a successful pairing in Nashville this season which could result in a boost to Ekholm's five-on-five scoring totals.
