Or at least that's what's happening on paper. Vey is being demoted for cap reasons and isn't expected to actually play in the ECHL. When the Kings' cap issue is resolved, they will bring him back.

He won't be in the lineup for Thursday's meeting with San Jose and he is slated to join the team shortly before puck drop. Vey might suit up on Saturday at Vancouver. He has no goals and five assists in 18 appearances with Los Angeles in 2013-14.

That's likely because he stayed on the ice for extra work Friday. Vey, who had five assists in 14 games in his first recall, said he anticipates an easier adjustment this time. "I'm excited to be back here and hopefully I'll contribute," he said.

Linden Vey picked up the first NHL point of his career on Saturday.

Vey assisted on Jordan Nolan's opening goal of the game. Vey was recalled by the Kings on November 1 to replace Jeff Carter on the roster as Carter was placed on the injured reserve list. Vey was selected in the fourth round of the 2009 Draft and had three goals and 11 points in the AHL before his recall.

"You just got to think of it as just another hockey game," he said. "Obviously it's a little more than that. I've been playing ever since I was 4 years old and I'm looking forward to this. I think there will be a little bit of nerves the first shift, but once I get into it I'll be fine." Vey has three goals and 11 points in 10 AHL games this year. He was picked by the Kings in the fourth round of the 2009 draft.

Vey was just called up in the wake of Jeff Carter being placed on injured reserve and Keaton Ellerby being placed on waivers. The 22-year-old fourth-round pick from the 2009 draft had three goals and eight assists on the year.

Kings coach Darryl Sutter has liked what he's seen from Linden Vey during training camp.

Vey will play on a line with Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli during Friday's preseason game. Vey has an outside shot of making the team after recording 67 points in 74 AHL games last season. If he doesn't make the squad though, there's a good chance that he'll be one of the first players called up if the Kings need an injury replacement.
