Goaltender Anders NIlsson says he's feeling much better after he missed three months of the AHL season due to a mysterious illness.
After a battery of tests were conducted, it was determined Nilsson suffered from a severe vitamin deficiency in addition to allergies to gluten and dairy. "It feels so much different now -- I can work hard on the ice or in the gym," he said. "It was a tough year, but I learned a lot. You live, you learn, right?" Now that the issues have been regulated, Nilsson has been practicing with the NHL club as the third netminder. May 5 - 9:14 AM

With the Islanders up 1-0 and under two minutes remaining in the third period, the Islanders allowed the New Jersey Devils to comeback and steal two points. Anders Nilsson had been incredible for the majority of the hockey game, but at the end of the night he takes the loss.

New York Islanders goalie Anders Nilsson made all 24 saves to give his team a 1-0 shutout against the New Jersey Devils.

That goose egg is also the first win in his NHL career. The Swedish netminder was a surprise starter on Sunday so it'll be interesting to see if he can string together some more starts from this success.

Andres Nilsson will get the start against the Devils Sunday.

This is a bit of a surprise, although veteran Evgeni Nabokov started Saturday against the Bruins and likely needed a break. Adjust your goaltending rotation accordingly.

G Evgeni Nabokov was the only Islander not to participate in Friday's practice, leading to strong speculation that Anders Nilsson will start today against the Bruins.

The New York Islanders have sent Anders Nilsson to the minors.

Nilsson had been serving as the Islanders backup goaltender with Al Montoya and Rick DiPietro sidelined. Both goaltenders are still hurt, but the Islanders have decided to replace Nilsson with Kevin Poulin, who earned three straight shutouts in the AHL last week.

Anders Nilsson will probably come back up from the minors on Monday.

He was loaned back to AHL Bridgeport on Saturday during the NHL's Christmas break. The Islanders still have goaltenders Al Montoya (concussion) and Rick DiPietro (groin) unavailable due to injuries. If they aren't ready to return Monday night then Nilsson could be in line to rejoin the team.

Anders Nilsson was saddled with loss against Sidney Crosby and the Penguins in his first NHL start Monday night.

One of the major issues the Islanders are again facing this year is the goaltender situation and it's not getting better. The New York Islanders is a team in complete shambles, led by billionaire Charles Wang and the neophyte Garth Snow at the helm of this sinking ship. At least, Nilsson will be able to tell his kids that he was the goalie that faced Sidney Crosby in his comeback game. He needs some more seasoning in the minors, but he could have some fantasy value in a few years.

Anders Nilsson will make his first NHL start on Monday.

Nilsson stopped 14 of 17 shots in relief of Rick DiPietro on Saturday. From our perspective, this decision says more about DiPietro than it does about Nilsson. Even with Evgeni Nabokov and Al Montoya both sidelined, DiPietro can't seem to establish himself as even the temporary number one goaltender. The season's still young, but we can't recommend touching the Islanders' goaltending situation right now.
