Anders Nilsson has played well for the Sabres during training camp.

He started off not allowing a goal during his 30 minutes of intrasquad scrimmage action, then he blocked 26 of 27 shots Monday in his preseason debut defeat against Minnesota and he posted a 23-save shutout in a 1-0 shootout win over Toronto on Thursday. "He wants to prove he can be in the net and be a capable goaltender when he gets the opportunity," coach Dan Bylsma said. "He's had two opportunities to this point, and he's been really good in both of them. It gives you a comfortable feeling when you see a guy like that be able to backstop your team." Nilsson will back up Robin Lehner this season.

Anders Nilsson will play between the pipes in Monday's preseason contest.

Nilsson will be looking to build off of his strong showing in two intrasquad contests. He's projected to start the campaign as Robin Lehner's understudy.
Sep 26 - 1:17 PM

Anders Nilsson looked good in two intra-squad games on Friday and Saturday.

Nilsson has logged 30 minutes without allowing a goal as he attempts to solidify the Sabres' backup goalie position behind Robin Lehner. We like his chances over Linus Ullmark, who may need a little more minor league seasoning before making his mark in the NHL.

Anders Nilsson signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Sabres following the trade.

The Sabres acquired him from the Blues for a 2017 fifth-round pick Saturday evening. Nilsson was a restricted free agent. He had a 3.12 GAA and .901 SV% in 29 games with the Oilers and Blues last season.
Jul 2 - 10:31 PM

The Buffalo Sabres have acquired Anders Nilsson from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a 2017 fifth-round draft pick.

Nilsson had a 3.12 GAA and .901 save percentage in 29 games between Edmonton and St. Louis in 2015-16. He's a restricted free agent after completing a one-year, $1 million contract. Buffalo will probably have him compete with Linus Ullmark for the backup job during training camp.
Jul 2 - 5:44 PM

St. Louis won't use Anders Nilsson in Game 1 Wednesday night.

No real surprise there. Brian Elliott and Jake Allen are both healthy now, so unless that changes Nilsson will remain on the sidelines.
Apr 13 - 9:38 PM

Anders Nilsson relieved Brian Elliott for the final frame of Saturday's 5-1 loss to Washington.

Nilsson came in down 4-1 already, so his record wasn't touched. He turned away nine of 10 shots during his one period of play.
Apr 10 - 1:22 AM

Anders Nilsson stopped 19 of 20 shots in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Avalanche.

Nilsson entered the game at the start of the second period because Jake Allen suffered an injury. Nilsson entered the game with his team leading 3-0 which means he didn't factor into the decision. Brian Elliott will take over starting duties if Allen is out long-term.

Anders Nilsson will serve as the backup in Saturday's game against the Washington Capitals.

Anders Nilsson has been officially summoned to backup Jake Allen.

Nilsson hasn't had a good season, though. He's not won a game since Dec. 11th, a span of 0-5-1. He's 10-12-1 with a .901 save percentage and a 3.14 GAA this season with the Oilers.

The St. Louis Blues have acquired Anders Nilsson from the Edmonton Oilers.

The Blues needed some goaltending depth as Brian Elliott is out of action, and they got it with Nilsson who was sent to the Blues farm club the Chicago Wolves. Nilsson played a lot early on for the Oilers but Cam Talbot supplanted him as the starter so the Oilers sent him to St. Louis. The Blues gave up Niklas Lundstrom and a fifth round pick to the Blues.
Feb 27 - 10:16 AM

Per Bob McKenzie, the St. Louis Blues are about to receive Anders Nilsson from the Edmonton Oilers "for a mid-round pick."

McKenzie notes that it's "a fourth or fifth round pick." Which certainly qualifies as "mid-round" given there's only seven rounds. If and when the Blues, or whomever, acquire Nilsson he'll carry a remaining cap hit of $231,183 if none is retained by the Oilers. The deal is all but official and we'll keep you posted as the final details become available. If and

While nothing is official just yet, David Pagnotta has made it known that Anders Nilsson is (very likely) on his way to St. Louis for a draft pick.

Nilsson was supposed to start in Friday's match with Anaheim, but was held out of action instead. With Brian Elliott expected to miss at least a month with a lower body injury. The 25-year-old Nilsson carries a $1M cap hit and will be an RFA at the end of the season. He has gone 10-12-2 in 24 starts and 26 games with a 3.14 GAA and .901 save percentage while up with Edmonton. Announcement is expected Saturday morning, according to Pagnotta.
