Freddie Hamilton played in his first game of the season Saturday.

The brother of Dougie had been a healthy scratch this season until Saturday's tilt against St. Louis. Hamilton saw only 7:36 minutes of action but was a plus-one in a 6-4 loss to the Blues. Don't expect a lot of offense from Hamilton but he did have 18 goals and 43 points in 62 AHL games last season.

Freddie Hamilton has made a good impression on Flames coach Glen Gulutzan so far in camp.

"I see (Freddie) leading every drill out here," Gulutzan said. I see him dialed into everything that we’ve talked about, systems-wise. Now, he just has to continue. The season will start and he’ll have to keep pushing and getting better, but so far I’ve really liked what I’ve seen out of Freddie." Hamilton has also scored two goals in two preseason games so far. He's on the bubble for one of the Flames' final bottom-six spots, but so far he has a solid chance of earning that role.

Hamilton is set to make $575,000 this season and $650,000 in 2017-18. The deal is one-way, so he won't take a pay cut even if he ends up in the minors. He had a goal and an assist in four contests with Calgary last season along with 18 goals and 43 points in 62 AHL games.
Sep 23 - 10:25 AM

Freddie Hamilton has been assigned to the minors.

Mar 28 - 1:34 PM

Freddie Hamilton played on the top line Saturday alongside Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan.

Hamilton had a good game as he assisted on his brother Dougie's goal in a 4-1 loss to the Blackhawks. Hamilton showed his toughness and that has to help the diminutive Gaudreau as the opposing teams will not be so quick to go after him. Hamilton should stay on the line once again so he could be a nice cheap play in DFS.

Mar 16 - 12:15 PM

Freddie Hamilton is excited to be a part of the Calgary Flames' organization.

Calgary acquired him from Colorado for a conditional seventh round pick. Of course, the fact that they already have his younger brother, Dougie Hamilton, on board likely influenced the Flames' decision. "The fact my brother is there, it makes it just a bigger bonus," Freddie said. "It’s an organization that is trending upward. They had a great year last year. I’ve followed them now a lot since my brother is on the team, and I love the style they play. They’re known as one of the hardest-working organizations in the league, I’d say, and from what my brother told me, they have a lot of good quality guys on the team and a good staff. So it’s definitely a lot of motivation for me to try to get up there sometime." He'll start the season in the minors.

Freddie Hamilton suited up against his former team Wednesday night, but he wasn't looking to prove the Sharks wrong for trading him.

"I think there's been adrenaline for me every game so far, trying to make a new first impression with a new team," Hamilton said. "That's even bigger than trying to prove people wrong. Win games for your new team and impress the staff here and your teammates here. I think every game's been big for me so far." He logged just 9:34 of ice time in Colorado's 5-1 loss. Hamilton has one goal and no assists in 12 games with the Avalanche since the move.
