Joacim Eriksson has been called up by Vancouver.

Eriksson is expected to serve as Eddie Lack's understudy for now. Jacob Markstrom was serving in that capacity, but Markstrom hasn't gotten much playing time in that role, so he'll head to the minors to avoid getting rusty. Meanwhile Ryan Miller remains out with a knee injury.

Joacim Eriksson stopped all 11 shots Calgary sent his way Friday night, in a 3-0 victory.

He filled in relief of starter Ryan Miller who stopped all seven shots he saw as well and played the first half of the game. Following up on last night's note, Eriksson has moved up a notch now that the Canucks waived Jacob Markstrom. However, he's still a long shot to ever see meaningful NHL action.

Joacim Eriksson saw his first action of the preseason, playing thirty minutes and stopping 10 of the 11 shots sent his way in a victory over Calgary.

The 24-year-old doesn't have much fantasy value as he sits far behind even the third string goalie Jacob Markstrom. But if you're wondering who will suit up for the Canucks if Ryan Miller, Eddie Lack and Markstrom are all mysteriously sick one evening - Eriksson's your man.

Joacim Eriksson has been summoned by the Vancouver Canucks.

Eriksson will act as Vancouver's backup goaltender while Roberto Luongo nurses an ankle injury. Eriksson recently served in that role, but he didn't end up making his NHL debut. We'll see if he gets that chance this time around.

Joacim Eriksson has been assigned to the minors.

He served as Vancouver's backup keeper, behind Eddie Lack, while Roberto Luongo dealt with a lower-body injury. His demotion indicates that Luongo may be ready to return to the lineup. Eriksson didn't see any NHL action during his AHL call-up.

Joacim Eriksson has been called up by Vancouver.

Roberto Luongo is still sidelined, so Eriksson will back up Eddie Lack. Eriksson has an 8-10-1 record with a 2.77 GAA and .907 save percentage in 20 games with AHL Utica this campaign.

While Eddie Lack might seem like the prohibitive favorite, Joacim Eriksson is also in the bidding to back up Roberto Luongo for the Vancouver Canucks.

The Swedish Elite League product signed with the Canucks in June. He put up a .931 save percentage and 1.67 GAA in 30 games in Sweden last season, so it's understandable that Vancouver might want to give him a look.

The Vancouver Canucks have confirmed that they have signed Joacim Eriksson.

The Canucks didn't announce the terms of the deal. Eriksson is coming off of three successful campaigns in the Swedish Elite League. He posted a 1.67 GAA and .931 save percentage in 30 SEL games last season. The Vancouver Canucks are expected to trade Roberto Luongo this summer, so Eriksson might serve as Corey Schneider's understudy.

It appears that the Vancouver Canucks have signed goaltending prospect Joacim Eriksson.

Eriksson’s page currently shows him as a member of the Canucks despite no official announcement from the Vancouver organization or the NHL. Eriksson is 23-year-old Swede. Some scouts think he can be a first-rate goalie in the NHL. He's 6-foot-1, 189 pounds. With Roberto Luongo likely to be traded by Vancouver in the off-season, Eriksson may well be Corey Schneider's backup next season.

The Philadelphia Flyers have decided to not sign prospect Joacim Eriksson, which means he'll be eligible to be drafted in 2011.

"He didn’t play much this year and didn’t develop," Flyers GM Holmgren said. "That’s just that way it goes sometimes when you draft European players. It’s disappointing, but that is the chance you take when you draft them." Despite Holmgren's statement, this move still comes as a surprise. Eriksson was one of the top prospects in the Flyers system, but he still wasn't anywhere close to being NHL ready and it looks like the Flyers weren't willing to wait. The rise of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who was one of the league's best rookie goaltenders in 2010-11, might have also been a factor in the Flyers decision.
