The goal was Nugent-Hopkins seventh of the year and the point tied him with the team lead at 18 with Taylor Hall. The 21-year-old is about on pace to match his 56 points last year in 80 games played. The Oilers had their chances in this game but were still out-shot 34-22 on the second night of a tough back-to-back situation versus two strong California teams.

"That's definitely a step I want to make," Nugent-Hopkins said. "I know I still have a ways to go to get there. It's something I'm obviously going to keep working on my whole career. I just want to keep going. I definitely want to make some big steps personally. Not just offensively but I want to be better away from the puck as well." He is off to a strong start this season with five goals and 10 points in 13 contests. He's a good bet to surpass his career-high of 56 points and we think he'll eventually post a 70-point season, even if it doesn't happen in 2014-15.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will return from his undisclosed injury on Friday night when the Oilers host Vancouver.

"I've been feeling really good the past few days," he said. "I'm excited to get back in the lineup here and hopefully get our first win of the season. It's definitely a game for us, another divisional game, and we start the homestand tonight so it's going to be a big one for us tonight." Nugent-Hopkins missed two games due to the ailment. He has one assist in two games outings.

Nugent-Hopkins was upset with a hit from the Canucks Dan Hamhuis and went after him. "It's something I had to get out of the way eventually I guess," Nugent-Hopkins said. "He had a good hit on me, it was a clean hit and we got up and I don't know what really sparked it. He's not a fighter so we kind of just looked at each other and probably both wanted to spark our team a little." RNH was held pointless but he did contribute fantasy-wise with the fisticuffs. Don't expect this again from Nugent-Hopkins this season.
