Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had successful surgery on his ailing shoulder Tuesday.
"It's something that's been nagging at me for a couple years," said Nugent-Hopkins. "It got a little bit worse and it's something that has to be taken care of eventually. We all decided it was time." The procedure repaired a torn labrum. Nugent-Hopkins didn't live up to expectations this season with just four goals and 24 points in 40 games. Look for him to be better next year. Apr 24 - 6:21 PM

Date:

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will see Dr. Tony Miniaci Monday and could have shoulder surgery as early as Tuesday.

Nugent-Hopkins said that the injury originally happened in his second year in junior hockey with Red Deer of the WHL and is not related to the shoulder injury suffered last season. "It has gotten a little worse, so it had to be taken care of eventually. It's time," Nugent-Hopkins said. "I don't want to have to deal with the discomfort and pain every year." Look for a season in 2013-14 like his rookie one in which he had 52 points in 62 games and not a bad one like this season where he had only four goals and 24 points in 40 games. It may take six months for Nugent-Hopkins to heal so he may start next season on the injured reserve list.
Apr 22 - 9:00 AM

Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' season is over because of a labral tear in his shoulder.

Surgery appears highly likely for the budding young star. All indications are that his issue is similar to the one that prematurely ended Taylor Hall's rookie season. The bright side is that he'll have plentiful time to recover from this issue.
Apr 21 - 1:15 PM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was held pointless for a fifth straight game in the Oilers’ 4-1 loss to Flames Saturday night.

After racking up four points in Edmonton’s blowout victory over Calgary at the beginning of the month, Nugent-Hopkins hasn’t found the net since and the Oilers playoffs hopes are fading fast.
Apr 14 - 6:20 AM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a goal and three assists in a 8-2 victory Wednesday.

Nugent-Hopkins has been on fire lately with a goal and 11 points in his last six games. It wouldn't be surprising to see Nugent-Hopkins stay hot and be a big part of the Oilers' push for a playoff spot.
Apr 4 - 9:56 AM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins registered two assists on Tuesday.

Nugent-Hopkins has three assists in two contests since returning from the flu. He's been dealing with a sophomore slump this season, but seems to have turned a corner with a goal and seven points in 11 contests this month. Unfortunately he still hasn't found the back of the net with any regularity after scoring 18 goals in 62 games as a rookie.
Mar 27 - 9:09 AM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins returned to action on Monday after missing two games with the flu.

Nugent-Hopkins is definitely having a sophomore slump with only two goals and 12 points in 26 games but did manage an assist in 16:44 minutes of action Monday. He was horrible at the face-off dot as he lost 13 of 16 draws. He is a definite must-have in keeper leagues but is a bubble player at best this season in deeper pools.
Mar 26 - 9:53 AM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (flu) will return from his two-game absence Monday night when the Oilers play at Nashville.

He will join Nail Yakupov and Ryan Smyth on the team's third line. "We may monitor his ice-time somewhat, but he's back in there," said coach Ralph Krueger, who will keep Magnus Paajarvi with Sam Gagner and Jordan Eberle as well as Taylor Hall alongside Shawn Horcoff and Ales Hemsky.
Mar 25 - 5:07 PM

Oilers centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who has missed Edmonton's past two games with the flu, was scheduled to be on the team flight to Nashville Sunday morning.

"He had a better day Saturday," Oilers head coach Ralph Krueger said. "We’ll have him ride the bike there, and we’ll make a decision on whether he plays in Nashville after the pre-game skate Monday."
Mar 24 - 11:05 AM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is on the injured reserve list with the flu.

Nugent-Hopkins won't play on Saturday, but after that he's eligible to return to the lineup. That being said, Oilers coach Ralph Krueger wouldn't commit to Nugent-Hopkins traveling with the Oilers to Nashville and St. Louis for the Oilers' games on Monday and Tuesday respectively. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Mar 23 - 7:08 PM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (flu) may not be available for Saturday's game after all.

He was a late scratch Wednesday and did not skate on Friday. "What I had hoped was a 24-hour flu, which has hit multiple players here, is deeper than that. (Nugent-Hopkins) is still extremely weak today," coach Ralph Krueger said Friday. "With that being at least three days, we expect he will need as many days to get back."
Mar 22 - 5:54 PM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (flu) is expected to be fine to play Saturday.

The flu bug that prevented him playing Wednesday night is only suspected to be 24-hour ailment. Nugent-Hopkins has been disappointing in his sophomore season with two goals and nine assists in 27 games.
Mar 21 - 4:06 PM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will not play Wednesday night because he's sick.

Mar 20 - 9:29 PM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored just his second goal of the season on Tuesday.

Nugent-Hopkins has been enduring a rough sophomore season offensively. It hasn't all been bad news for him as he has been growing his game defensively, but it's safe to say that he has frustrated fantasy owners. Still, Nugent-Hopkins might be turning a corner with four points in his last five games.
Mar 13 - 10:34 AM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a minus-three rating in Edmonton's 6-0 loss Friday.

Nugent-Hopkins has just a goal and eight points in 23 games this season. He also has just one point in his last 10 games. He's a big gamble at this point, but also is a guy to target if you can acquire him cheaply in a trade.
