Ryan Strome is confused why he sat again on Monday, his second straight game as a healthy scratch.

Strome is supposed to be an offensive force but with only two goals and four points in 19 games, he is far from that. "It doesn’t really matter what I think . . . I’ve either got to play better or find a way to make them more happy, I guess," Strome said. "You can talk all you want about what you do or don’t do; obviously we’re not winning, so something’s got to change." The Islanders won 2-1 in overtime Monday so coach Jack Capuano may decide to keep a winning combination another game.
Nov 29 - 9:00 AM

Ryan Strome will be a healthy scratch in Monday's game against the Calgary Flames.

This will be his second straight game in the press box. Strome has been going through some tough times since last year. He was made a healthy scratch in the playoffs and that trend has continued this year. He has two goals four assists in 19 games. Scott Mayfield and Jaroslav Halak will also be scratched.
Nov 28 - 6:58 PM

Ryan Strome was a healthy scratch Friday against San Jose.

The struggling forward recorded just one assist over 12 games prior to his trip to the press box. Strome has scored two goals in 19 contests this season and he hasn't found the back of the net since Oct. 21.
Nov 26 - 9:19 AM

Ryan Strome is on a three-game point streak.

Strome had an assist in the Islanders' 3-2 loss to Montreal on Wednesday. He has two goals and five points in seven games this season.
Oct 27 - 11:00 AM

Ryan Strome was the only Islander to find the back of the net in their 2-1 loss to Washington Saturday.

It was his first of the season as Brock Nelson and Johnny Boychuk drew the assists. Strome had 50 points two seasons ago but struggled last season with only eight goals and 28 points in 71 games. Look for a 40-50 point season from the former first round selection.
Oct 16 - 8:19 AM

Ryan Strome served as a center during Friday's practice.

Strome was paired with Anders Lee and Josh Bailey. Strome's a natural center, but for most of his 189-game NHL career he's served as a winger. There's no guarantee that this shift to center is a long-term change, but with training camp just getting underway, the Islanders are experimenting.
Sep 24 - 6:38 AM

Ryan Strome has agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract with the Islanders.

He produced eight goals and 28 points in 71 games last season after he hit the 50-point mark in 2014-15. Strome will get a chance to prove himself over the next two campaigns to earn a heftier contract.
Sep 20 - 10:23 AM

Ryan Strome and the New York Islanders are closing in on the Islanders' self-imposed contract deadline.

The Islanders have a rule that any player not signed by the start of training camp won't be for the entire year. So unless the Islanders decide to break that rule, they need to agree to terms with Strome by Thursday morning. Strome is coming off of his entry-level contract. He had a 50-point rookie campaign, but followed it up with 28 points as a sophomore. He's got a lot of upside, but given the mixed start to his career, a bridge contract would likely be the best option.
Sep 20 - 8:36 AM

The New York Islanders and Ryan Strome are still working on a contract extension.

Strome is currently an RFA and beat reported Arthur Staple says both sides aren't too concerned about a deal getting done. Of course, the Islanders have team rule that says any player not signed by the beginning of training camp will sit out the entire year. Whether they enforce that one or not will be interesting, but expect the two sides to come to terms on a deal first. Training camp opens on Sept. 22.

May 5 - 4:07 PM

It's not clear what the New York Islanders' plans are for Ryan Strome going into Game 4 on Friday.

Strome was a healthy scratch Tuesday for the third time in the 2016 postseason. "When you go up and down the lineup — and I’m looking at it now — you’ve got tough decisions to make on a daily basis," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "Overall, Ryan knows what he needs to do to play better, but it’s not like he’s played poorly. It’s a numbers game right now, too. I’ve had plenty of talks with Ryan. I talked to him down in Tampa. … He realizes what he needs to do. I feel like I have a really good relationship with Ryan and when he gets back in there …" Capuano didn't complete that sentence. In the six games Strome has participated in, he has a goal and four points.
May 5 - 10:37 AM

Ryan Strome will be a healthy scratch on Tuesday in Game 3 against Tampa Bay.

"I honestly don't really have much to say," Strome said. "I try to be a good a team guy and I don't want to draw any negative attention to myself. It's a big opportunity for us here tonight and I'm sure the guys that are playing will do the job." Strome was scratched for Games 5 and 6 in the opening round against Florida after he had a goal and assist in the first four contests. He had two assists in Game 1 versus Tampa Bay in Round 2.
