Islanders forward Ryan Strome scored twice in the New York Islanders' 6-5 loss to the visiting New York Rangers Monday night.

It was the Isles' first loss in four games against their cross-state rivals. The Isles won all three previous games against the Rangers by three goals. In the Monday match, the Isles squandered two-goal leads twice. They grabbed a 5-3 advantage on Strome's second goal of the game and 12th of the season at 3:43 of the third period, but just as they did in the second period, the Rangers responded with back-to-back goals to tie the game. The Isles built a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by John Tavares (27) and Frans Neilsen (11) and a 3-1 lead in the second period on a goal by Johnny Boychuk (fifth). The Isles will play the Rangers for the last time in the regular season on March 10 in Long Island. They remain in first place but are now only two points ahead of the Rangers in the Metropolitan Division. And the Rangers have two games in hand.

Ryan Strome scored his 10th goal of the season on Saturday to break an eight game pointless drought.

Ryan Strome had his first career four-point game Wednesday night against the Jets.

Strome opened the scoring with a fluky goal that popped up and over goalie Ondrej Pavelec, he'd also collect sweet assists on each of the Islanders next three goals. Through 37 games, Strome has seven goals and 20 assists. What's more, he's shooting at only 8.5%. This kid just may be the real deal.

Islanders center Ryan Strome assisted on two goals in a 4-3 overtime victory against the visiting Washington Capitals Monday night.

Strome was the only Islander to produce more than one point. His assists, on the Isles' first goal in the first period and on the winner in overtime, were his 16th and 17th of the season. The Islanders jumped ahead 2-0 after two period on goals by Anders Lee, his eighth of the season, and Lubomir Visnovsky, his fourth. Calvin de Haan, with his first goal of the season, made it 3-0 when he notched a shorthanded marker at 1:41 of the third period. Then the Caps tied it with three goals in the third before Johnny Boychuk sealed the deal on a power play goal for the Isles at 2:53 of overtime. It was Boychuk's third goal of the season.

Ryan Strome is projected to start Tuesday's game on the fourth line.

Strome had been playing on the third line, but Islanders coach Jack Capuano didn't want to paint the move as a demotion. "He put up a lot of points last year playing with Matty and Colin McDonald," Capuano said. "The great thing about Ryan is he can handle any assignment, as many minutes as I can give him. He may start there but he'll move around." Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck are expected to round out the fourth line.

Ryan Strome had his first career three point game in the Islanders' 5-4 shootout win over Pittsburgh on Friday night.

With a goal and two assists, Strome now trails co-team point leaders Brock Nelson, Kyle Okposo and John Taveras by just three points 18-15. Last season he had 18 points in 37 games, and with 15 points through 19 games this season, it looks like the former fifth overall draft pick in 2011 is finally here to stay.

Ryan Strome had two assists in the Islanders' 6-3 victory over the Rangers Tuesday night.

Strome already has four points in three games. He's got a lot of offensive upside and isn't a bad gamble as a result if he's available on waivers. Keep in mind though that he's averaged just 13:29 minutes per game so far.

Ryan Strome could be in some difficulty to make the Islanders roster out of training camp.

Anders Lee could be in the same boat as both players can be sent to the minors without going through waivers, something that isn't available to other Islander forwards. Strome could move from center to the wing as the Isles are strong down the middle with John Tavares, Mikhail Grabovski and Frans Nielsen already assured of spots in the lineup. Strome had seven goals and 18 points in 37 NHL games last season, showing that he deserves a chance to stay.

Ryan Strome will likely play on the wing in 2014-15 if he makes the Islanders out of training camp.

New York will feature John Tavares, Mikhail Grabovski and Frans Nielsen down the middle. Strome, who is a natural cetner, isn't concerned about the possible position switch. "It doesn't really change and I don't know what to expect," he said. "I played center most of my time here and then the last week I played wing and I thought I played pretty well. Things change and being versatile is obviously an advantage. Whatever they have in mind, I'm prepared for." Strome split the 2013-14 campaign between the Islanders and the team's AHL affiliate in Bridgeport. He produced seven goals and 18 points in 37 NHL contests.
