Ryan Strome was the only Islander to find the back of the net in their 2-1 loss to Washington Saturday.
It was his first of the season as Brock Nelson and Johnny Boychuk drew the assists. Strome had 50 points two seasons ago but struggled last season with only eight goals and 28 points in 71 games. Look for a 40-50 point season from the former first round selection. Oct 16 - 8:19 AM

Ryan Strome served as a center during Friday's practice.

Strome was paired with Anders Lee and Josh Bailey. Strome's a natural center, but for most of his 189-game NHL career he's served as a winger. There's no guarantee that this shift to center is a long-term change, but with training camp just getting underway, the Islanders are experimenting.

Ryan Strome has agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract with the Islanders.

He produced eight goals and 28 points in 71 games last season after he hit the 50-point mark in 2014-15. Strome will get a chance to prove himself over the next two campaigns to earn a heftier contract.
Sep 20 - 10:23 AM

Ryan Strome and the New York Islanders are closing in on the Islanders' self-imposed contract deadline.

The Islanders have a rule that any player not signed by the start of training camp won't be for the entire year. So unless the Islanders decide to break that rule, they need to agree to terms with Strome by Thursday morning. Strome is coming off of his entry-level contract. He had a 50-point rookie campaign, but followed it up with 28 points as a sophomore. He's got a lot of upside, but given the mixed start to his career, a bridge contract would likely be the best option.

The New York Islanders and Ryan Strome are still working on a contract extension.

Strome is currently an RFA and beat reported Arthur Staple says both sides aren't too concerned about a deal getting done. Of course, the Islanders have team rule that says any player not signed by the beginning of training camp will sit out the entire year. Whether they enforce that one or not will be interesting, but expect the two sides to come to terms on a deal first. Training camp opens on Sept. 22.

Ryan Strome returned to the Islanders lineup in Game 4 after being a healthy scratch in Game 3.

Strome replaced Alan Quine in the lineup. He played with Brock Nelson and Steve Bernier on the third line and was a minus-one with a couple of shots on net in 11:15 of action.
May 7 - 7:58 AM

Ryan Strome practiced on the fifth line on Thursday.

That suggests that Strome will be a healthy scratch in Game 4 on Friday. He was also kept out of Tuesday's contest.
May 5 - 4:07 PM

It's not clear what the New York Islanders' plans are for Ryan Strome going into Game 4 on Friday.

Strome was a healthy scratch Tuesday for the third time in the 2016 postseason. "When you go up and down the lineup — and I’m looking at it now — you’ve got tough decisions to make on a daily basis," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "Overall, Ryan knows what he needs to do to play better, but it’s not like he’s played poorly. It’s a numbers game right now, too. I’ve had plenty of talks with Ryan. I talked to him down in Tampa. … He realizes what he needs to do. I feel like I have a really good relationship with Ryan and when he gets back in there …" Capuano didn't complete that sentence. In the six games Strome has participated in, he has a goal and four points.
May 5 - 10:37 AM

Ryan Strome will be a healthy scratch on Tuesday in Game 3 against Tampa Bay.

"I honestly don't really have much to say," Strome said. "I try to be a good a team guy and I don't want to draw any negative attention to myself. It's a big opportunity for us here tonight and I'm sure the guys that are playing will do the job." Strome was scratched for Games 5 and 6 in the opening round against Florida after he had a goal and assist in the first four contests. He had two assists in Game 1 versus Tampa Bay in Round 2.
May 3 - 12:39 PM

Ryan Strome recorded two assists in the Islanders' 5-3 win against Tampa Bay in Game 1 on Wednesday.

Strome drew back into the lineup after being scratched for New York's final two first round games. He now has a goal and four points in five playoff games this year.
Apr 28 - 11:13 AM

Ryan Strome will be a healthy scratch Sunday in Game 6 for the Islanders.

It’s quite perplexing that Strome, he of a goal, assist and nine shots in four games, will be a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game. But the Islanders are going with the lineup that won them Game 5, and they are one win away from punching their ticket to Round 2. Strome had eight goals and 28 points during the regular season.
Apr 24 - 6:46 PM

Ryan Strome will be scratched in Friday's Game 5 against Florida.

The 22-year-old Strome has a goal and an assist through the first four games of the series, but will be sat in favor of veteran grinder Steve Bernier. Strome has been in and out of coach Jack Capuano's dog house all season long, it appears the playoffs have resolved little.
Apr 22 - 6:50 PM

Ryan Strome scored the game-wining goal and registered an assist in the Islanders' 5-4 victory against the Panthers in Game 1.

It was Strome's second game-winning goal in eight career postseason contests. This was certainly an encouraging way for the 22-year-old to kickoff the playoffs after he was limited to eight goals and 28 points in 71 regular season games.
Apr 15 - 10:36 AM

Ryan Strome picked up pair of helpers during Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win over Washington.

It's been a disappointing season for Strome, who had 50 points as a rookie last season. He has just 28 points in 68 games this season, but it appears he could be heating up just at the right time.
Apr 6 - 12:40 AM

Ryan Strome scored a goal in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

Strome snapped a nine-game point drought. He has eight goals and 24 points in 54 contests in 2015-16 after finishing with 50 points last season. This has obviously been a disappointing campaign for Strome, but it wouldn't be shocking to see the talented youngster bounce back next season.
