Ryan Strome posted a goal with an assist, six shots on goal, a blocked shot and a hit in Tuesday's 5-3 loss against Carolina.
Strome was recently promoted to the second line, replacing Zack Kassian, and he rewarded coach Todd McLellan with an impressive performance. It's uncertain how long the newest Oiler will skate alongside Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Milan Lucic, but so far so good. Oct 18 - 1:21 AM

Ryan Strome has moved up the depth charts in practice as he replaced Zack Kassian on the second line.

He practiced alongside Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Milan Lucic. Strome was dealt from the Islanders in the off-season for Jordan Eberle and is off to a rough start this season with no points in four games with a minus-two rating. Hopefully this will help.

Ryan Strome is projected to begin the season as Edmonton's third line center.

The Oilers experimented with using Strome on the top line, but at least for now it appears that won't be the case. Strome has a lot of potential, but it wasn't fully realized with the Islanders. The hope is that the change of scenery will do him some good, but he's unlikely to enjoy a big season if he remains on the third unit.
Oct 4 - 5:07 AM

Ryan Strome was serving as a center on a line with Jussi Jokinen and Drake Caggiula during Thursday's practice.

Strome had been serving as a winger on Connor McDavid's line, but it seems Oilers coach Todd McLellan might ultimately want to use Strome as a center. "Ryan was around the puck more in Saskatoon than when he was as a winger. He had more touches and was more creative. That doesn’t mean that can’t happen on the wing, too. That was just one night, but he did a good job at center," said McLellan. Take this all with a grain of salt as Thursday's practice might not end up being an indication of what the Oilers' opening game lines look like, but naturally this will be worth monitoring further.
Sep 29 - 10:01 AM

Ryan Strome scored a goal and registered an assist in the Oilers' 5-2 win over Calgary Monday night.

Strome is one of the more interesting Oilers players to keep an eye on going into the season. He was regarded as a top prospect at one point, but his tenure with the Islanders left plenty to be desired and he was limited to 30 points in 69 games last season. He might break out with the Oilers though. Patrick Maroon scored a goal and registered two assists for Edmonton. Mark Letestu found the back of the net twice. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who didn't score a goal in 13 playoff contests, netted a goal in his first preseason appearance of 2017. Connor McDavid had two assists.
Sep 18 - 11:44 PM

Oilers star Connor McDavid thinks Ryan Strome is a good sleeper pick in fantasy leagues.

"He's a guy that is going to come in and I think he's going to get a pretty good opportunity to play with some good players and maybe take a little bit of power-play time and help," McDavid said of Strome. "I think he's going to do well with it." Strome has always had a lot of offensive upside, but he's 24-years-old now and his production over the last couple of seasons has been disappointing. In 2016-17 specifically he was limited to 13 goals and 30 points in 69 contests. The Oilers acquired him over the summer though and, as McDavid pointed out, this is a big opportunity for him. McDavid might be right in his pick of a player to exceed expectations in fantasy hockey leagues.

Ryan Strome is looking forward to getting a fresh start with the Oilers.

He recorded just 13 goals and 30 points in 69 matches with the Islanders last year. "With so many ups and downs in my career, I think I've definitely learned to handle adversity pretty well," Strome said. "I've had a lot thrown at me and I've gone through some stuff. I definitely don't feel like too much of a rookie anymore, it's funny how fast time flies. But being traded now, it's a good opportunity, and people are excited to have me and it's going to be good. It's nothing but optimism from my end." Edmonton intends to take advantage of Strome's versatility by playing him up and down the lineup, but it's probable that he will get a chance to play on the right side with Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl.
Aug 5 - 10:06 AM

Edmonton bench boss Todd McLellan expects to have a "very motivated" Ryan Strome this season.

"I think he's focused on coming back and having a very strong year," McLellan said. "He's excited about becoming an Oiler and we can't wait to get him to training camp." Strome can play center or the wing, so McLellan sees him as a versatile option. He could be someone to pick up if he plays alongside Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl.

Ryan Strome is happy to be a member of the Edmonton Oilers.

Edmonton acquired Strome on Thursday from the New York Islanders in exchange for Jordan Eberle. "Super-excited, honestly, I was at a loss for words," said Strome. "Other than the emotional aspect of missing some teammates, I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity. Obviously there are a lot of great things going on Edmonton. Just from watching them in the playoffs this year I’m really ecstatic about joining the group. I’ve already had a lot of guys reach out to me from the team, I think that says a lot about them. I’m really looking forward to it, honestly. I’m just super-excited." Strome already has a connection with Connor McDavid as his brother, Dylan Strome, played with McDavid while they were part of the OHL's Erie Otters. Ryan Strome hasn't lived up to his potential yet, so this will be an important season for the soon-to-be 24-year-old.
Jun 23 - 4:18 AM

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired Ryan Strome from the New York Islanders in exchange for Jordan Eberle.

Eberle had declined somewhat offensively in recent years and he came with a $6 million annual cap hit, so from the Oilers perspective, they're getting a cheaper, younger forward in this exchange. That said, Strome is a gamble. While he does have a lot of offensive upside, the soon-to-be 24-year-old is coming off a campaign where he was limited to 30 points and he only recorded 28 points in 2015-16. Perhaps a change of scenery is what he needs to bounce back. He'll be a restricted free agent after the 2017-18 campaign, so this will be a key season for him.
Jun 22 - 12:52 PM

Ryan Strome (wrist) might have been able to return to the Islanders' lineup next week had they made the playoffs.

In other words, the Islanders would have gotten help from Strome in the first round if they had avoided elimination. As it is, Strome should be fine for the 2017-18 campaign.
Apr 10 - 4:40 PM

Ryan Strome won't need surgery for his broken wrist.

Strome is still likely to miss the remainder of the regular season though as he has a three-to-six week timetable. The good news is that if the Islanders do make the playoffs and Strome is healthy on the earlier end of that timeline, then he might not miss much of the postseason.
Mar 24 - 11:18 AM

Ryan Strome has been lost to the Islanders with a broken wrist suffered in Wednesday's win over the Rangers.

He won't be able to return to the team unless they make a deep playoff run. Thus at least ends the 23-year-old's regular season. He posted 13 goals and 30 points with 40 PIMs and 59 hits in 69 games. In 30 games under coach Doug Weight, Strome posted seven goals and 16 points.
Mar 23 - 12:44 PM

Ryan Strome picked up a goal and two assists in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Dallas Stars.

Strome opened the scoring at the 9:29 mark of the opening frame. He then helped set up goals by Andrew Ladd (second period) and Dennis Seidenberg (third period). Strome has collected two three-point games in his last five outings, but he's still put up just 28 points in 59 games this season.
Mar 2 - 11:13 PM

Ryan Strome packed a pair of goals and an assist into Sunday's win over New Jersey.

Strome found the scoresheet for the first time in three games. He now has 11 goals and 25 points in 55 games this season. The Isles beat the Devils 6-4.
