Ryan Murphy (lower body) won't play Thursday, but a timetable for his return remains unclear.

"He saw the doctor yesterday, and everything was as positive as it can be," coach Bill Peters said. "... Day-to-day or week-to-week, I'm not sure what it is." Murphy had an MRI Monday, but there was no update on his condition.

The Hurricanes have been out West this week, was injured Thursday against Arizona. The former 12th overall pick in the 2011 Draft has a goal and seven points in 21 games this season. He is another one to keep an eye on for the 2015-16 season as he has a lot of offensive upside.

It was a power play effort for the former first round pick who was selected 12th overall in 2011. He is worth picking up, especially in keeper leagues as he has a lot of offensive upside.

Ryan Murphy has been promoted by the Carolina Hurricanes.

Murphy will play in Tuesday's game if he can make it to the arena in time. It's a good bet that he will, so look for him to play alongside Tim Gleason. Murphy has five assists and 16 games with Carolina this season.

Carolina won't play again until Jan. 27 and the AHL's All-Star festivities will take place from Jan. 25-26, so the Hurricanes will still have the option of summoning him before they play next.

Murphy will be 22 years old in March and has 41 points in 48 games with AHL Charlotte over the last three seasons. However he has just 17 points in 65 NHL games with Carolina. His offensive upside is clear, but it also hasn't quite blossomed just yet.

Murphy has 17 points, all assists, in 23 games for AHL Charlotte this season, and is expected to help improve Carolina's dreadful offense. Gleason meanwhile holds the team lead in hits 83, which ranks him in the top-60 in the NHL. He also has 30 PIMs and 49 blocks in 33 games.

It was Murphy's first point in three games this season. He's got a fair amount of offensive upside and he's worth keeping an eye on given that he's averaged 4:20 minutes of power-play ice time per game.
