According to Darren Dreger, there's a trio of teams that have interest in Ryan Murphy.

One of them however is likely not Vancouver, whom Dreger said was not aware if they were one of the interested clubs. The 23-year-old right-handed defender has had a career marred by inconsistency and injury, but he also carries a puny $787.5K cap hit through next season. A former first round pick by Carolina, Murphy has shown he can score. He posted 24 points in 32 games for AHL Charlotte last season, and could simply need a change of scenery to clean the proverbial slate.
Nov 27 - 2:42 PM

Ryan Murphy has been sent to the minors for a conditioning stint.

He has appeared in four games with the Hurricanes this season and he has generated one assist. Murphy missed the first eight games with a lower-body injury and he has been sitting as a healthy scratch lately.

Ryan Murphy will tag in for Jakub Nakladal on Thursday against Anaheim.

Murphy has 35 points in 127 career NHL games. He's struggled to make his mark in the League, so we'd leave him on the wire.

The Carolina Hurricanes have activated Ryan Murphy off injured reserve.

He's yet to play in a game this season because of a lower-body injury. He had 10 assists in 35 games in 2015-16. He'll play in Tuesday's game against the Ottawa Senators.

Ryan Murphy (lower body) is still out of action.

Murphy was projected to miss three-to-four weeks when he was injured before the start of the NHL season but he has had a setback so it looks like early-November at the earliest for the defenseman. Murphy had 10 assists in 35 games last season for the Hurricanes so don't expect a lot this season.

Ryan Murphy (lower body) has been placed on injured reserve.

He was projected to miss three-to-four weeks prior to suffering a bit of a setback on Tuesday.
Oct 11 - 4:37 PM

Ryan Murphy will miss the next three-to-four weeks with a lower-body injury.

Ryan Murphy (flu-like symptoms) practiced with the Hurricanes on Friday.

Murphy still isn't expected to play in Friday's preseason game, but at least now he's not being kept separate from the team. We'll have to wait to see if Carolina decides to use him on Sunday versus Minnesota.
Sep 30 - 1:03 PM

Ryan Murphy (flu-like symptoms) will miss Friday's preseason game.

Murphy also didn't practice with Carolina on Thursday, though it sounded like that was mostly for quarantining reasons as he still worked out away from the team. Either way, more than his illness, the biggest issue he faces is the steep competition for the defensemen spots on Carolina. "It’s make-or-break time," Murphy said. "The days are gone when you might get away with a few things. It’s nerve-wracking for sure. This is a big year for me. I really want to show everyone how I can play and what I’m capable of." To that end this illness is unfortunately timed, but Carolina will play in another four exhibition games beyond Friday's, so there should be other opportunities for him.
Sep 30 - 10:23 AM

Ryan Murphy is dealing with flu-like symptoms.

Murphy still worked out on Thursday, so this sounds pretty minor. The main thing is that he's been kept away from the rest of the Hurricanes right now to prevent it from spreading.
Sep 29 - 12:52 PM

Ryan Murphy has signed a two-year, $1.575 million contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Murphy will earn $750,000 next season and $825,000 in 2017-18. He had 10 assists in 35 games with the Hurricanes last season. "Ryan is still a young player at 23, and has shown he can contribute offensively from the blue line," said Hurricanes GM Ron Francis. "He has developed through our system and we look forward to seeing his game continue to grow."
Jul 15 - 6:24 PM

Ryan Murphy has been assigned to Charlotte Checkers of the AHL.

Charlotte is trying to lock down their spot in the AHL playoffs and getting the offensive blueliner back could help. Murphy has seven goals and 22 points in 30 games with the Checkers this season.
