Minnesota Wild recall forwards Zack Phillips, Justin Fontaine, Brett Bulmer and Chad Rau, defenseman Kyle Medvec and goalie Jeff Deslauriers from AHL Houston.
With Houston out of the AHL playoffs, the Wild will recall all six players as a means to showing some of the younger players what the playoffs are like. For players like Deslauriers, it's a bit of a reward after toiling in the minors for the season. None of the six players will play this postseason. Tue, May 7, 2013 04:44:00 PM

Zack Phillips, who was selected 28th overall in the 2011 Draft, has struggled this season in Houston.

It's Phillips first professional season after a stellar season for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL where he scored 30 times and added 50 assists in 60 games in the regular season and added nine goals and 23 assists in 17 playoff games. He has only a goal and five points in 14 games thus far to go with a minus-seven rating. "Phillips should be taking advantage of this ice time because Granlund's gone," coach John Torchetti said. "He's got to buy in and make sure he plays better defensively."

Minnesota has returned 2011 first-round pick Zack Phillips to his junior team in the QMJHL.

The Minnesota Wild have selected forward Zack Phillips with the 28th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Phillips is an average skater who lacks explosiveness, but he has an outstanding hockey sense that has helped him develop into one of the most opportunistic scorers in this year’s class. The Saint John Sea Dog drives hard to the net and has the hands to be able to consistently score goals from that close range. He will have to improve his skating if he plans to successfully make the jump to the NHL.
