Joel Armia amassed three goals and one assist in Finland's 11-4 pounding of Slovakia in relegation round action on Friday.
The Finns were unexpectedly dropped into relegation and they've been predictably dominant there with a pair of lopsided victories. Chicago draft pick Teuvo Teravainen enjoyed a four-point outing as well, with two goals and two assists, while Calgary prospect Markus Granlund picked up three helpers. Armia and Granlund lead the 2013 World Junior Championship in scoring now with 12 points each in six games, while Teravainen is tied for second with 11. Jan 4 - 2:43 PM

Joel Armia netted two goals for Finland in a 7-4 loss to Sweden in World Junior Championship action on Monday.

His two-goal effort helped the Finns rally from a 3-0 deficit to even the score, but they eventually fell to the Swedes and now they will have to play in the relegation round. "We tried to have a good start, but we had the opposite," said the Buffalo first-round pick. "It's so hard to win the game when the other team is three goals ahead." Highly-touted 2013 draft prospect Aleksander Barkov posted two assists in the defeat.

Joel Armia has reportedly suffered a concussion on Saturday in SM-liiga action.

He isn't projected to play Tuesday against the Pelicans, but beyond that his status is certain. Buffalo's first-round pick in 2011 should be considered out indefinitely until his symptoms clear. Armia has notched nine goals and 13 points in 22 games with Assat this season.

Buffalo prospect Joel Armia scored his ninth goal of the season in Assat's 5-2 triumph versus Jokerit.

The first-round pick, 16th overall, of the Sabres in 2011 has 13 points in 20 games in Finland's top league this year. He registered 18 goals and 20 assists in 54 outings with Assat Pori in 2011-12.

Joel Armia helped propel Assat to a 7-4 win Tuesday in a match versus the Lahti Pelicans.

The Buffalo prospect racked up two goals and one assist in the game to give him eight points in eight contests so far this season. He wouldn't have been in the NHL even if there wasn't a lockout because he's participating in his mandatory military service, but he could be playing in North America next year. Armia and the Sabres agreed to a three-year, entry-level deal this past June.

Joel Armia has agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

The deal is reportedly worth up to $3.825 million. Armia is currently participating in his mandatory military service and isn't expected to head to North America until the 2013-14 campaign. His contract won't start until he starts to play hockey in North America.

Joel Armia won't be in attendance for Buffalo's development camp this week.

The 2011 first-round pick of the Sabres has obligations to fulfill for his Finnish Elite League team and his country's national junior club. Still, Armia is a prospect to keep an eye on for his offensive talent.

Although he may be a few seasons away from making an impact in the NHL, Joel Armia is a very welcomed addition to the Sabres.

He is a pure goal scorer, something the Sabres felt they really needed. The NHL's director of European scouting described Armia as follows: "He's big and tall but surprisingly mobile for a player of his size. He has a heavy wrist shot that he gets off quickly and is always looking for the empty spots on the ice. He's a sniper with a good selection of shots. You might have to look for him during some shifts, but then, suddenly, he scores the winner." Mark Armia's name down for future fantasy pool consideration.

The Buffalo Sabres have selected Joel Armia with the 16th overall pick in the 2011 NHL entry draft.

Armia is a pure goal-scorer who possesses an accurate shot with a quick release. Even though he is big, he has very good hands and has the ability to dangle with the puck in the offensive zone. His skating has improved a lot this season in Finland, which has helped his game and confidence as well. However, Armia is not a player who has developed his physical tools yet. Also, his decision making and defensive play need work. The Finn is still pretty raw, but a winger with his size and skill is an attractive package.
