Dallas Stars recall D Jamie Oleksiak from AHL Texas.

The Stars recalled Oleksiak to help provide depth on an extremely banged-up defensive corps. Both Aaron Rome (foot) and Philip Larsen (general soreness) were left behind when the Stars traveled to Nashville on Sunday. This is his second stint with the big club this season, but we don't expect him to have fantasy value.

Part of the reason Jamie Oleksiak was sent to the minors was so that he could get more playing time.

Oleksiak averaged 15:40 minutes per game in Dallas, but the Stars feel the 20-year-old needs more. "We just want him to play big minutes," said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. "We were not going to play him Friday, so we want him to play."

The 20-year-old defenseman suited up in six games with the Stars, where he earned an assist and averaged 15:40 of ice time per contest. Oleksiak was also credited with eight hits and seven blocked shots.

Oleksiak is projected to play alongside Alex Goligoski. He has three goals and 23 points in 43 AHL games this season.
Feb 1 - 4:24 PM

Jamie Oleksiak skated alongside Alex Goligoski at Thursday's practice.

"It's a huge honor. I wasn't really expecting it,' Oleksiak said regarding his callup. "I was sitting on my couch, playing video games, waiting for the All-Star break to end, and I got a call saying I was getting called up. It's definitely really exciting. I am glad to be here and I am going to try to make the most of the opportunity." The Stars want to add some size to their back end, so the 6-foot-7, 254-pound Oleksiak will get a chance to play during his time in the NHL.
Jan 31 - 5:08 PM

Jamie Oleksiak has been recalled from the AHL.

Widely considered the Stars' best prospect, the hulking 6-foot-7, 254-pound defenseman will make his NHL debut Friday. "Clearly, he brings the size element that we don’t have right now, so that’s an obvious benefit," general manager Joe Nieuwendyk said. "You look at (Stephane) Robidas and (Trevor) Daley, and (Alex) Goligoski and (Philip) Larsen, and it’s something that we could use some help on." Oleksiak has 23 points in 43 AHL games this season.
Jan 30 - 8:53 PM

Jamie Oleksiak has been sent down to the minors.

Oleksiak has three goals and 17 points in 38 AHL games this season. He might still end up making the team at some point in 2013 as an injury replacement.
Jan 18 - 2:10 PM

Jamie Oleksiak is now in the mix to crack the Dallas lineup with the trade of Mark Fistric to Edmonton.

Oleksiak has been outstanding for the Texas Stars this season as the behemoth blueliner (6'7", 241 pounds) has made his professional debut after playing last season in the OHL. He was the 14th pick overall in the 2011 Draft and will be battling Jordie Benn and Brenden Dillon for a spot on the Stars. The one thing the Stars will not do is keep Oleksiak around in the press box as it is more important that he plays than just sits around. He is comparable to Tyler Myers of the Buffalo Sabres and the Stars will be mighty happy if that is the player he turns out to be.
Jan 15 - 7:36 AM

Huge Dallas Stars defensive prospect Jamie Oleksiak scored a goal in the Texas Stars' 3-2 win against the Milwaukee Admirals.

Oleksiak is one of the team's blueline prospects who seem poised to make a jump to the NHL level sooner rather than later. Oleksiak and Brenden Dillon have fans excited that a current weak spot could become a future strength. Oleksiak boasts size comparable to Tyler Myers, which is part of the reason he was a first-round draft pick in 2011. His offensive skill might end up being close to Myers', as well.

Jamie Oleksiak has decided to sign with the OHL Saginaw Spirit instead of staying in the NCAA.

The Dallas Stars selected Oleksiak with the 14th overall pick in the 2011 NHL entry draft. Oleksiak's decision to move to the OHL will make it possible for him to participate in September's Traverse City prospects tournament. Oleksiak has been compared favorably to Zdeno Chara, and not just because he stands at an imposing 6'7".

Dallas first-round pick Jamie Oleksiak may play the 2011-12 season in the OHL.

The towering prospect played as a freshman at Northeastern University last season, but coach Greg Cronin has left the team to be an assistant with the Toronto Maple Leafs. "Obviously, we don't want to make a decision until Northeastern finds a head coach. I don't think that would be fair," said Oleksiak. "The program has been phenomenal and I'm just waiting to see what coach they bring in. My ultimate goal is to play professional hockey one day, so it's a matter of where I'll do most of my developing or developing more to get ready for that next level."

The Dallas Stars' 2011 first round draft pick resembles Zdeno Chara.

The #14 pick taken by Dallas was Jamieson Oleksiak, a hulking defenseman who plays exactly like Chara. His 6-7 frame is a towering presence on the blueline. He joins a skilled Dallas defense corps, poised to take a step forward this season. Keep in mind Oleksiak is still growing - he is just 18 years old.
