The Dallas Stars are counting on some of their young players to replace restricted free agent holdouts Cody Eakin and Brenden Dillon.

"I think we have players who can step into those spots that will give you a different look," said Stars head coach Lindy Ruff. "The unknown is scary at times, but I’ve found out that sometimes in one man’s absence, it’s an opportunity for someone else." According to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News, defensemen Jamie Oleksiak, Kevin Connauton and Jyrki Jokipakka have stood out on the blue line. Either one of those players could potentially fill in for Dillon. At center, Vernon Fiddler and Travis Morin could replace Eakin on the team’s third line.

Jamie Oleksiak suited up Sunday against Edmonton.

He made his season debut with Dallas after being called up from the minors because of Stephane Robidas' injury. Oleksiak logged 18:38 in time on ice alongside Brenden Dillon, where he had two blocked shots and three hits. "[He] was good." coach Lindy Ruff said. "He was against some their speed guys and skilled guys and I thought he did a nice job." He played and Kevin Connauton remained as a healthy scratch, but the two of them should get some looks with Robidas sidelined for possibly the rest of the year.

The Stars have recalled Jamie Oleksiak from Texas of the AHL to take the roster spot of the injured Stephane Robidas.

It remains to be seen if the 6'7", 250 pound rearguard will get a shot at playing time with Kevin Connauton and Aaron Rome scrambling for a chance to make their mark. If he does, Oleksiak could be a nice penalty minute contributor.

Jamie Oleksiak has been sent to AHL Texas.

Oleksiak was one of seven players cut on Saturday as the Stars reduced their training camp roster to 29 players. Oleksiak had just two assists in 16 games with Dallas last season, but he also recorded 33 points in 59 AHL contests.

There is a chance that Jamie Oleksiak could crack the Dallas roster out of training camp.

Injuries to Trevor Daily (upper body) and Aaron Rome (hip) create the opportunity for the giant defenseman. At 6'7", 241 pounds Oleksiak is an imposing figure, but if he does make the Stars' roster, he doesn't contribute much in any fantasy category and can be ignored on draft day.

Jamie Oleksiak picked up a Gordie Howe hat trick in Monday's 7-1 win against Columbus to wrap up Dallas' participation at the rookie tournament in Traverse City.

He produced a goal, an assist and a fight in the contest to give him three points and a whopping 24 penalty minutes in four outings. Oleksiak isn't far away from making it to the NHL on a full-time basis, but he may be hard-pressed to earn a job with Dallas out of training camp.

Dallas Stars assign Jamie Oleksiak to AHL Texas.

Oleksiak was recalled in late February to provide depth while the Stars were dealing with a host of injuries on their blueline. He has no fantasy value this season.

Dallas Stars recall D Jamie Oleksiak from AHL Texas.

The Stars recalled Oleksiak to help provide depth on an extremely banged-up defensive corps. Both Aaron Rome (foot) and Philip Larsen (general soreness) were left behind when the Stars traveled to Nashville on Sunday. This is his second stint with the big club this season, but we don't expect him to have fantasy value.

Part of the reason Jamie Oleksiak was sent to the minors was so that he could get more playing time.

Oleksiak averaged 15:40 minutes per game in Dallas, but the Stars feel the 20-year-old needs more. "We just want him to play big minutes," said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. "We were not going to play him Friday, so we want him to play."

Jamie Oleksiak skated alongside Alex Goligoski at Thursday's practice.

"It's a huge honor. I wasn't really expecting it,' Oleksiak said regarding his callup. "I was sitting on my couch, playing video games, waiting for the All-Star break to end, and I got a call saying I was getting called up. It's definitely really exciting. I am glad to be here and I am going to try to make the most of the opportunity." The Stars want to add some size to their back end, so the 6-foot-7, 254-pound Oleksiak will get a chance to play during his time in the NHL.

Jamie Oleksiak has been recalled from the AHL.

Widely considered the Stars' best prospect, the hulking 6-foot-7, 254-pound defenseman will make his NHL debut Friday. "Clearly, he brings the size element that we don’t have right now, so that’s an obvious benefit," general manager Joe Nieuwendyk said. "You look at (Stephane) Robidas and (Trevor) Daley, and (Alex) Goligoski and (Philip) Larsen, and it’s something that we could use some help on." Oleksiak has 23 points in 43 AHL games this season.
