Jamie Oleksiak's first career playoff goal opened the scoring for the Penguins in Game 5.
Unfortunately for the Penguins, they were unable to hang on as they dropped a 6-3 decision to Washington and now trail 3-2 in the best-of-seven series. The Penguins have not received much even-strength scoring in the series outside of the Sidney Crosby line, but Oleksiak was on the ice with the fourth line at the time of his goal. Pittsburgh will need notably better performances from their second and third lines the rest of the way if they expect to three-peat for the Stanley Cup. May 6 - 7:13 AM

While the Penguins are full of players with a wealth of postseason experience, Jamie Oleksiak is looking to make his playoff debut.

Pittsburgh acquired Oleksiak from Dallas back in December to add some defensive depth and provide the squad with a towering, physical blueliner. He went on to record four goals, 14 points, and 69 penalty minutes in 47 games with the Penguins. He should be in the lineup for Game 1. "Honestly it’s more excitement than it is nervousness," Oleksiak said. "We played that game in Columbus [Thursday] night, which was as close to a playoff game as you’re going to get in the regular season. That was a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to kind of going in with this group. I think it’s a great group to go into the playoffs with."

Jamie Oleksiak scored the game winner against his former Dallas teammates on Sunday.

It was Oleksiak's fifth goal of the season as he scored with only four seconds left in the second period. He has 13 points in 56 games but has two goals and an assist in his last three contests. He is worth looking at, especially if you use the penalty minute category as he has 70 this season.

Jamie Oleksiak, who is owned in just three percent of Yahoo leagues, is trending upwards.

Oleksiak is the 33rd ranked defenseman on Yahoo in the past 30 days. Particularly, he has 42 hits since Jan. 1, making him a good pickup in banger leagues. However, he shouldn't be on your radar if you are looking for points.

Penguins GM Jim Rutherford's decision to acquire Jamie Oleksiak on Tuesday might set the stage for another trade this season.

The Penguins got Oleksiak from Dallas in exchange for a 2019 conditional fourth-round pick. While Oleksiak isn't likely to be a major factor in Pittsburgh, he does provide the team with some extra depth that Rutherford can take advantage of. "If we were to move a defenseman going forward, I don't get locked into having to get a defenseman back," Rutherford said. "I have more flexibility now. If the right forward's available, we can do it that way also." The NHL's roster freeze has begun and will extend through Dec. 28, so any additional moves Rutherford makes can't be imminent.

The multi-point game was a surprise, as Oleksiak entered with just one assist and a minus-6 rating across his first 18 contests. He offers fantasy owners next to nothing on the offensive end normally, but he is a decent source of hits (32) and blocked shots (20) through 19 outings.
