The Edmonton Oilers have placed David Musil on waivers.
Musil was drafted with the first pick in the second round in 2011 but saw action in only four NHL games, all coming in the 2014-15 season. Obviously the Oilers don't think he has the stuff to be a regular in the NHL so if he clears waivers, he should be back in the AHL this season. He has no fantasy value. Oct 2 - 8:06 AM

David Musil has signed a one-year contract with Edmonton.

He posted three goals and 14 points in 67 games with the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL last season. Musil appeared in four matches with the Oilers in 2014-15, but he didn't see any NHL action in 2015-16. He will have to clear waivers to be sent down, so he could see some action with Edmonton this coming season.

David Musil was assigned to AHL Oklahoma City to join the Barons in the Calder Cup playoffs.

Musil saw just four games with the Oilers this season, registering two assists and one minor penalty in that time. He recorded a goal and 10 points with 33 PIMs over 62 games with the Barons, making the 22 year old a boon for their blue line.

David Musil will make his NHL debut as his Oilers take on their rival Calgary Flames on Saturday night.

"I’m excited coming up here and a little nervous, but it’s a good nervous," Musil said. "I just have to keep things simple, play the way I play best and concentrate on myself rather than the other things around it." Musil, drafted 31st overall in 2011, has 10 points and 33 penalty minutes in 62 games for AHL Oklahoma City this season.

David Musil was among 10 players sent to AHL Oklahoma City on Monday.

Goaltenders Tyler Bunz and Olivier Roy, defensemen Martin Gernat and Joey Leach, and forwards Travis Ewanyk, Austen Fyten, C.J. Stretch, Derek Nesbitt and Matt Ford have been sent down to the minors by the Edmonton Oilers. Don't expect any of them to have an impact this year on the big club.

Frank Musil did not know that the Edmonton Oilers were selecting his son with the first pick of the second round.

What makes this story interesting is that Frank is a scout with the Oilers. "They didn’t tell me who they were picking," Frank Musil said. "It came as a surprise, which made it that much sweeter. Not that I needed any more stress at this point in my life. I have to say I was more nervous today than in any game as a player. He's at the starting line now and hopefully he'll get there. Depends on how fast he runs." Frank finished his career with the Oilers. David is projected to be a defensive defenseman with a big body and long reach, something every team in the NHL has a need for.

The Edmonton Oilers selected David Musil with the first pick in Round 2.

David Musil is this year’s Mr. Dependable. Son of former NHLer Frank Musil, David is a strong, physical defenseman who sticks to his game. Although David has the ability to chip in some offense, scouts are confident he will not be expected to contribute offensively in the NHL. Rather, NHL scouts covet David’s long reach, which makes it almost impossible to get around the 6-4 prodigy. Considering how tight the margin of error is in the NHL, especially come playoff time, a defensive defenseman like David Musil becomes especially attractive.
