Look for Tomas Jurco to sit out at least a week's worth of games due to a back injury.

Jurco, who was evaluated Friday by team doctors, seems to have a bit of a disc issue that will sideline him for at least a few games. There is also talk he could be shut down until after the All-Star game. Reserve Jurco immediately if you have not already done so.

Tomas Jurco will sit out Wednesday's game because of a back problem.

He didn't take part in the third period of Tuesday's 4-2 victory over Edmonton because of back issues. Jurco finished that contest with just 7:02 of ice time. He hasn't scored since Nov. 26 and has 12 points in 37 contests.
Jan 7 - 10:17 AM

Tomas Jurco earned an assist in Wednesday's 2-1 shootout loss to Toronto.

He picked up a helper on a goal by Gustav Nyquist late in the second period. Jurco also finished the game with four shots on goal. Playing with Henrik Zetterberg and Nyquist should allow him to continue trending in the right direction. He has two goals and nine assists in 26 matches, but he's generated nine of those points in his past 12 outings.

Tomas Jurco has collected two goals and five points in his past five games.

He had no goals and two assists in his previous 14 appearances. "I'm trying to play a little harder," Jurco said. "There were a couple of things I changed, but I think it's just the puck is going in for all of us, my teammates and me, and it wasn't before. When I passed before, the puck didn't go in. I just have to keep doing whatever I'm doing right now, and hopefully, it will continue to go well." Unfortunately, now that Pavel Datsyuk is back in the lineup, Jurco got bumped to the fourth line with Luke Glendening and Drew Miller. If he keeps producing despite limited minutes then he could get a promotion.

Tomas Jurco recorded his first goal of the season in Tuesday's 5-0 victory versus Columbus.

He scored a power-play marker during the third period and added an assist on a goal by Darren Helm late in the match. Jurco had a six-game pointless skid and a 14-game goalless slump entering the contest.

After being a healthy scratch for three consecutive games, Tomas Jurco was back in the Red Wing lineup Friday night.

Jurco did quite well in limited ice time in the Wiings' 4-1 win over Chicago. He was plus one, took two shots on goal and dished out two hits in 10:48 of ice time. Detroit coach Mike Babcock is still very high on Jurco. "He's a big, strong, young kid who can really skate and who's really good with the puck," Babcock said. "He's had three games to sit around and watch and decide how bad he wants to play, and understand that it's not a given, you've got to earn the right to play. We need him to be good." Look for Jurco to build on his solid outing Sunday against the Canadiens.

Tomas Jurco practiced with Pavel Datsyuk and Justin Abdelkader on Wednesday.

However, there's a chance that he could be scratched again if Stephen Weiss is cleared to return on Friday from a groin injury. "It was a great practice, and good for me to get back in the lineup; hopefully it'll stay like this until Friday," Jurco said. "I don't know if I'll be playing, but it looks like I will, and it'll be a good chance for me to get back into it." There's been some talk about sending Jurco down to the minors. He's still with the Red Wings though and a spot alongside Datsyuk could help him snap his 12-game goalless drought.

Tomas Jurco was a healthy scratch Wednesday night in a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Rangers.

Tomas Jurco is projected to work with Detroit's top power-play unit on Thursday night.

The Wings want him to be a puck retriever for a group that includes Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Darren Helm and Niklas Kronwall. Gustav Nyquist was put on the second unit, so that he could possess the puck more often. Detroit is doing some power play tinkering because they have scored just two goals on 25 opportunities this year.

Tomas Jurco feels his game is rounding into form after he scored his first goal of the preseason on Monday.

"I'm finding my hands again," he said. "After I arrived, I was a little bit out of shape from traveling. I didn't have my visa, so for the last week I was just traveling around Slovakia getting my visa. So first few days, I was kind of out of it. Now I feel good again." He has displayed great chemistry alongside Riley Sheahan and Tomas Tatar, which could help his case of sticking with the Red Wings to start the 2014-15 campaign.

Tomas Jurco would prefer not to start the upcoming season in the minors.

"It would hurt," Jurco said. "Every player wants to play in the NHL. But it's a kind of a business, and if I'm going to start there, I'm going to play my best hockey and hopefully I'll move up here early in the season." He produced eight goals and 15 points in 36 appearances with Detroit last year. Jurco will look to earn a roster spot with the big club out of training camp.

Tomas Jurco has been assigned to AHL Grand Rapids.

He will play for Detroit's minor-league affiliate in their playoff run after the Red Wings were eliminated in Round 1 of the NHL postseason by Boston. Jurco was a healthy scratch in the last two games of the series. In 36 games with the Wings in the regular season, he produced eight goals and 15 points.

Tomas Jurco was a healthy scratch in Game 4.

He sat so that Todd Bertuzzi could make his first appearance of these playoffs. Bertuzzi may stay in the lineup after his screen in front of Boston goalie Tuukka Rask helped Niklas Kronwall score on the power play.

Tomas Jurco scored a goal for the Red Wings in a 4-3 shootout loss to Pittsburgh Wednesday.

Jurco's eighth marker is a far cry from the offensive production amassed by fellow youngsters Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar, but he's considered part of that group nonetheless. Jakub Kindl and Riley Sheahan also scored for the Wings in the defeat.
