The Toronto Maple Leafs have dealt Christopher Gibson to the New York Islanders.
Gibson had a 2.42 GAA and .921 save percentage in 45 games with the AHL's Toronto Marlies last season. He was included in a package for Michael Grabner as part of the Maple Leafs' efforts to rid themselves of contracts to get some breathing room below the limit of 50. It is a bit surprising to see Gibson get moved in such a trade though given that he's just 22 years old and is coming off of a strong campaign. He was taken with the 49th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Sep 17 - 12:51 PM

Christopher Gibson has been returned to the AHL Marlies.

The Maple Leafs needed another goaltender because Jonathan Bernier was dealing with the flu. Gibson didn't end up making his NHL debut during his brief stint. He has a 2.52 GAA and .919 save percentage in 17 AHL contests this season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs called up Christopher Gibson from the AHL on Sunday.

It's unclear if either James Reimer or Jonathan Bernier is banged up. Gibson, 22, is 6-9-2 with a solid .919 save percentage with the Toronto Marlies so far in 2014-15. He hasn't made an NHL start yet.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed Christopher Gibson to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The Buds continue to raid former Los Angeles Kings netminders, as they also grabbed Jonathan Bernier this summer. Obviously, it might take Gibson time to push the likes of Bernier and other guys in the team's system.

Christopher Gibson turned aside all 31 Baie-Comeau shots in Chicoutimi's 1-0 shutout Friday night.

It was Gibson's second shutout of the season and the ninth of his QMJHL career. He has a 3.32 GAA and .888 save percentage in 12 contests this season.

Christopher Gibson was returned to Chicoutimi of the QMJHL.

The Finnish-born goalie was drafted in the second round, 49th overall, in the 2011 Entry Draft. Michael Schumacher, Jordan Weal, Pierre Durepos, Michael Morrison, Taylor Carnevale and Michael Kantor were returned to their respective junior teams as well while J.D. Watt, Ray Macias and C.J. Stretch were released from their pro tryout contracts although Watt was signed by the Kings AHL team in Manchester. Teigan Zahn was released outright.

The Los Angeles Kings drafted goalie Chris Gibson with the 49th pick.

Do not be fooled by Gibson's 14-15-8 record in 37 games this past season with the Chicoutimi Sauguenees. The Finnish-born Gibson led the QMJHL with a .920 save percentage and had four shutouts, good enough for second in the league. He has outstanding balance, quick feet, very good rebound control and his glove hand is perhaps the best among all draft-eligible goaltenders. If Gibson could afford to work on one aspect of his game, he could stand to improve at playing the puck around the net.
