Rookie Rocco Grimaldi registered two goals in the Florida Panthers' 4-3 triumph over the Maple Leafs in Toronto Monday night.

Grimaldi scored back-to-back goals in the second period. They were his second and third of the season. The victory was the Panthers' 700th in their history and increased their lead atop the Atlantic Division to four points over the Tampa Bay Lightning, 5-2 losers Monday against the New York Islanders. The Panthers have won three consecutive games. They took a 3-0 lead against Toronto before the Leafs climbed back to within a goal. Also scoring for Florida in this one were Nick Bjugstad (14th) and Aleksander Barkov (27th). Aaron Ekblad and Reilly Smith each had two assists for the Panthers.

Rocco Grimaldi skated between Jiri Hudler and Teddy Purcell on Thursday night.

"This is almost my second and third chance for me, so I got to go out and focus on improving myself," said Grimaldi after the morning skate. "It's playoff time so it's not about me, it's about the team. ... I'm not coming in there trying to replace anybody." He is getting a chance to play now because Vincent Trocheck will miss three weeks with a broken bone in his foot. Grimaldi went 5-2 on faceoffs and he had a plus-1 rating in 11:51 of ice time versus New Jersey.

Rocco Grimaldi will return to the Panthers' lineup on Saturday against the Rangers.

Grimaldi will skate on the third line to the right of Brandon Pirri and Vincent Trocheck. It's been a tough season for the young phenom Grimaldi however, through 13 combined NHL and AHL games he has but a goal and four points. He may be full of talent, but we'd wait until he starts to blossom.

Rocco Grimaldi is thrilled to be on Florida's West Coast road trip.

He grew up in Southern California so he'll have plenty of family and friends in attendance for Wednesday's game against Anaheim. However, his focus is on trying to prove he belongs at the NHL level. "I'm very happy, very fortunate that call came," Grimaldi said. "This is an opportunity but it doesn't mean I'm on the team for good. It depends on what I do from now on."

Grimaldi was recalled from the minors because Jaromir Jagr is out with a lower-body injury. The 22-year-old had a minimal impact on the game, and although he has some good potential, he probably won't make an offensive impact in 2015-16.
