Florida wants to get Rocco Grimaldi back on their roster.
He was sent down to the minors on Sunday because the Panthers got some forwards back from injury. Grimaldi generated plenty of offensive chances, with 18 shots and a goal, during his seven games with the big club. Florida would also like to open up a spot for Vincent Trocheck and possibly Quinton Howden once he's healthy, so some trades could be coming. Veterans like Tomas Kopecky, Tomas Fleischmann and Sean Bergenheim have been mentioned as candidates to be moved. Nov 26 - 10:27 AM

Rocco Grimaldi got a goal for the Panthers in their 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators on Saturday night.

The goal was the 5-foot-6 rookie’s first of his career. The 2011 second-round draft pick has pretty much made the jump directly from the collegiate ranks to the NHL this season, as he only played 13 games in the AHL before his promotion. Nick Bjugstad stayed hot with his seventh goal of the season. Brian Campbell, Aaron Ekblad and Jimmy Hayes recorded the helpers.

Rocco Grimaldi was playing in the AHL with San Antonio at the time of his recall on Tuesday.

He had three shots on goal against Oklahoma City when he was pulled from the game near the end of the second period to join the Florida Panthers. The Rampage won 4-3 in a shootout. "I didn't know it was possible to happen or if it ever happened before," Grimaldi said of playing an AHL game and an NHL game on the same day. "Obviously I was excited. I wanted to win the game, it was a close game, I'm glad our guys got the win. Right when they told me I was going I had to start focusing on this game and get my body ready to go." He was brought up due to an illness to Aleksander Barkov.

He dressed against the Flyers and had 10 shifts totalling 6:11 of ice time. Grimaldi had one shot on goal and recorded an even plus/minus rating in Florida's 2-1 win over Philly. The Panthers have recalled Rocco Grimaldi from San Antonio of the AHL.

Grimaldi, who was a second-round pick in 2011, has four points in eight games with the Rampage. He may get some game action with both Dave Boland and Brandon Pirri down with injuries but we wouldn't be in a rush to pick him up. If Grimaldi does dress Saturday night, it will be his NHL debut.

Although he's a long shot, Rocco Grimaldi isn't being ruled out as a contender to make the Panthers' opening game roster.

"He might just be that guy that says, 'You know what? Brendan Gallagher did it in Montreal and I'm not going to San Antonio,'" Panthers director of player development Brian Skrudland said. "It's on him to decide, for him to make the decisions really hard on the coaches in September and October." Grimaldi had 17 goals and 39 points in 42 NCAA games last season.
