Oilers assistant coach Jimmy Johnson has challenged Oscar Klefbom to record at least 250 shots this season.
Klefbom finished with 201 SOG in 2015-16 and he got off to a great start this season with nine shots in the opener. "I talked to Jimmy (Johnson, assistant coach) the other day about having a mindset and a goal just to shoot as much as I can, just to have something to strive for," said Klefbom. "It was a pretty good result last year (38 points on 201 shots) and we want to aim for that again, if not better." He's a decent bet to reach the 40-point mark this time around, especially if he maintains that commitment to firing the puck. Oct 6 - 10:23 AM

Oscar Klefbom was held off the scoresheet in Wednesday's 3-0 win against the Flames, but he posted a plus-3 rating with a game-high nine shots on goal and a blocked shot.

Klefbom was very active in the offensive zone, even outshooting superstar Connor McDavid by two. The Swedish rearguard squeezed off 201 shots across 82 games last season and he looks determined to best that mark this year. While he didn't tally any markers in the opener, he was very busy on the man advantage last season and that's not expected to change in 2017-18.

Oscar Klefbom will likely be leaned on heavily at the start of the 2017-18 season due to an injury to Andrej Sekera.

Klefbom proved he was up to the challenge last year when he logged a team-high 22:22 of ice time per game. He also topped all Oilers defensemen with 12 goals and 38 points in 82 contests. Klefbom will probably be paired with Adam Larsson again because the duo had plenty of chemistry last year.

Oscar Klefbom (undisclosed) drew back into the lineup for Game 7.

We previously reported that he was expected to return after missing Game 6, so this is just confirmation. He has two goals and five points in 11 playoff games.

Oscar Klefbom is still expected to be ready for Wednesday night.

"He sure looked good out there today," coach Todd McLellan said after Tuesday's practice. Klefbom missed Game 6 because of an undisclosed ailment. He has two goals and five points in 11 playoff contests.
May 9 - 2:45 PM

Coach Todd McLellan expects to have Oscar Klefbom (undisclosed) back in the Edmonton lineup for Game 7 Wednesday in Anaheim.

Klefbom was a late scratch Sunday as he was unable to go from an undisclosed injury suffered in Game 5. The talented defenseman was not needed in Game 6 as the Oilers cruised to a 7-1 win but his presence on the blueline will be needed in the decisive Game 7. He has two goals and five points in 11 games but his defensive side of the game is just as important.
May 8 - 9:58 AM

Oscar Klefbom isn't in Edmonton's lineup for Game 6 Sunday night.

Klefbom was on the ice briefly for the pregame warmups, but he left before it finished. Edmonton hasn't specified why Klefbom isn't playing, but the timing is particularly bad given that the Oilers are already missing defenseman Andrej Sekera. Like Sekera, Klefbom has been logging major minutes in the playoffs with an average of 22:59 per game. Griffin Reinhart has drawn into the lineup as a result.
May 7 - 7:12 PM

Look for Oscar Klefbom (flu) to be back in the Oilers lineup Wednesday.

Klefbom missed the third period Saturday as he had the flu. "We weren’t sure how sick he was getting but it progressively got worse," coach Todd McLellan said. "He’ll be fine. Nothing that a pillow won’t cure." Klefbom is a top-two defenseman and the Oilers will need him at full strength if they want to get past the Anaheim Ducks in quarter-final action.
Apr 24 - 8:36 AM

Oscar Klefbom didn't play in the third period on Saturday against San Jose because of an illness.

"It's important for us to get healthy before we get to Anaheim," said coach Todd McLellan after the game. The Oilers managed to record a 3-1 win over the Sharks in Game 6 without Klefbom, but his presence on the back end will be needed in Round 2 versus the Ducks.
Apr 23 - 1:48 AM

Oscar Klefbom is in the starting lineup for Game 3 against the San Jose.

It would seem the young talented defender is feeling quite up to the task of playing tonight. Klefbom scored the series' opening tally in Game 1 and has average just over 21 minutes through the first two games.

Apr 16 - 10:09 PM

Speaking after practice, Edmonton Oilers head coach Todd McLellan expects Oscar Klefbom to be ready for Game 3 against the San Jose Sharks.

Klefbom didn't participate in practice today but the head coach still sounded confident his talented defensemen would be able to suit up tomorrow. The Oilers recalled Griffin Reinhart from the minors as insurance in case Klefbom isn't able to go in Game 3.
Apr 15 - 5:22 PM

Oscar Klefbom is absent from Edmonton's practice on Saturday after blocking a shot with what appeared to be his knee.

Brent Burns fired a shot that sent Klefbom to the dressing room and he never returned to the game. It would be a big loss for the Oilers if he were not able to suit up for Games 3 in San Jose.
Apr 15 - 1:49 PM

Oscar Klefbom left Friday night's game against the San Jose Sharks with an injury and did not return.

Klefbom was injured when he went down to block a Brent Burns wrister. The shot appeared to hit Klefbom inside the knee and he gingerly made his way to the bench. It would be a huge loss for the Oilers if they didn't have him in the lineup for Game 3.
Apr 15 - 1:21 AM

Oscar Klefbom missed part of the second period on Tuesday, but was fortunately able to return to the game.

Klefbom was struck in the neck by the puck. Despite that he ended up with a goal in 16:34 minutes of ice time Tuesday night. Given that he returned to the game we expect him to be okay going forward, unless new details arise.
Mar 15 - 6:09 AM

Oscar Klefbom picked up a pair of helpers during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Predators.

He's now up to 17 assists and 28 points through 63 games thus far, leaving him just one helper shy of matching his career high in that category.
