Oscar Klefbom has become the Edmonton Oilers top defenseman.
Klefbom started the season in the AHL but was recalled on November 27 and has not looked back. The Oilers are using him in all situations and he has become the go-to guy as far as playing against the other team's top line. "It’s been a good season for me, I think," Klefbom said. "I started off in Oklahoma and had some good games down there. Now in the second half of the season, it feels like I’ve taken another step." Klefbom has two goals and 14 points in 47 games so don't jump on him this season as far as fantasy hockey is concerned. Mar 14 - 7:17 AM

Oscar Klefbom led all players in the Edmonton-Chicago game with seven shots on goal.

There were a total of 86 shots on goal in a 2-1 shootout win for the Blackhawks so there were plenty of shots to go around. He only has 66 shots on goal this season and had only three in his previous four games.
Mar 7 - 7:42 AM

Oscar Klefbom was a minus-three Friday against the Minnesota Wild.

The defenseman has been a minus-seven over the last five games and is now a minus-13 on a poor Edmonton squad. Klefbom is a good defenseman and is probably the Oilers best and if not, he will be in the next couple of seasons. He has two goals and 11 points in 38 games with eight points coming in the the 10 games preceding Valentine's Day.
Feb 21 - 7:13 AM

It looks like the Edmonton Oilers finally have a very good defenseman in the making in Oscar Klefbom.

The 21-year-old was taken 19th overall in the 2011 Draft and has needed some experience in the minors to get to this point. He’s playing extremely well right now," Oilers head coach Todd Nelson said. "His compete level in the corners has been exceptional, he’s moving the puck well. He’s just doing the little things right. That has to continue with him, but we’re seeing tremendous growth. He’s playing confident hockey." Klefbom was outstanding against Montreal on Thursday and has two goals and eight points in his last 10 games. The talented Swede is worth selecting next season, as he is likely the Oilers best blueliner.
Feb 14 - 8:27 AM

Oscar Klefbom scored a goal in Edmonton's 2-1 win against New Jersey Monday night.

Klefbom has recorded a point in three of his last four contests. He now has two goals and eight points in 32 contests, with six of those points coming in his last eight contests. Feel free to take a chance on the 21-year-old if you're looking for a hot defenseman, but his recent pace isn't one he's likely to even come close to sustaining for long.
Feb 10 - 11:00 AM

Oscar Klefbom scored his first goal of season Thursday night in Edmonton's 3-2 victory over Buffalo.

After Anton Lander outworked the Buffalo defenders to obtain the puck deep in the offensive zone, he came around the net and gave Klefbom a pass he could step into. Klefbom ripped his second career goal late in the first period, giving the Oilers a 2-1 lead. He now has five points through 27 games this season.
Jan 30 - 2:21 AM

Oscar Klefbom had an assist in a 2-1 loss to Minnesota.

Klefbom has four assists in 26 games this season. We don't anticipate him having any fantasy value in standard leagues for the rest of the 2014-15 campaign.
Jan 28 - 10:52 AM

Klefbom had a minus-1 rating in 22:27 of ice time during a 4-3 loss to San Jose. He missed two games with a foot injury.

Oscar Klefbom didn't play in Sunday's game against the New York Rangers because of a swollen foot.

The 21-year-old has one assist and a minus-5 rating in 10 games for the Oilers this season. He is considered day-to-day right now.

Edmonton will insert Oscar Klefbom into the lineup on Thursday night.

"Just some heaviness and some hardness," coach Dallas Eakins said while discussing his expectations from Klefbom. "Oscar competes very, very hard. We need him to keep his puck plays very simple, but he's able to close in our own zone, keep people away from our net and we just need a very simple game from Oscar." He was called up from the minors on Wednesday. Justin Schultz and Martin Marincin will serve as healthy scratches.

Klefbom has a goal and eight points in nine AHL games in 2014-15. He's also has a goal and three points in 19 career NHL contests.

The Edmonton Oilers assigned Oscar Klefbom and Iiro Pakarinen to the AHL on Sunday.

JFYI as neither player is an impact presence in fantasy. They were moved in part to make room for Taylor Hall.

The Edmonton Oilers have recalled defenseman Oscar Klefbom from Oklahoma City of the AHL.

The former first round pick had six points in six games in the minors with a plus-seven rating. The 21-year-old was drafted 19th overall in the 2011 Draft and this could be the last he sees of the minors. He is talented and is expected to be the heart and soul of the Oilers blueline in a couple of seasons. Compare him to Niklas Hjalmarsson when looking for an NHL equivalent and while that may not get him drafted in fantasy pools, he will be a huge addition to the Oilers poor defensive corps.

Oscar Klefbom and Darnell Nurse were healthy scratches on Saturday for the third straight game.

The duo are expected to be the heart and soul of the Oilers blueline in a few years but have yet to see any action this season. Klefbom will likely see some soon but if Nurse is unable to get into the lineup then the Oilers should just send him back to the OHL.

Oscar Klefbom is upbeat going into training camp.

Klefbom is fighting to make the Oilers' opening game roster after getting a taste of life in the NHL last season. "It's always good when you’re fighting for spots on a team. Makes us better," said Klefbom. "I feel more prepared this time around. I think the coaches have more trust in me. They know what I'm capable of. I played some tough games (in March and April). I was also injured last year (which never gave him a true NHL shot)." It will be a challenge for Klefbom to make Edmonton's opening game roster, but he certainly can't be ruled out.
