Defenseman Oscar Klefbom (shoulder) is in Edmonton for a couple of weeks to bond with his future teammates.
Klefbom suffered a shoulder injury in November that required season-ending surgery. Coach Ralph Krueger is having him watch other defensemen in game action while he is travelling with the team. "I had him observe Nick Schultz, Ladi Smid, Jeff Petry, Mark Fistric on our defensive structure against Los Angeles. I want some feedback from Oscar. We're giving him some assignments," Krueger said. "I want him to visualize what kind of role he can have with us." Look for Klefbom to make the Oilers next season, if not at the beginning of the season, then at least part way through. Oscar Klefbom will reportedly miss the remainder of the season due to shoulder surgery.

"Klefbom will undergo surgery which means his season is over," posted Swedish journalist Johan Eriksson on Twitter. "Should be in Edmonton right now actually." The Oilers prospect had been getting much more ice time with Farjestad in the Swedish Elite League this season. He had three assists and a plus-7 rating in 11 Elitserien games prior to heading to the sidelines. Klefbom will have to use the rest of the year to recover, so that he can make a push for a spot on Edmonton's roster in 2013-14.

Edmonton Oilers prospect Oscar Klefbom may need surgery on his injured shoulder and if he does, it will sideline him for the rest of the season.

Klefbom was injured a month ago when he fell reaching for the puck and was hit at the same time. He will be looked at by his Swedish doctors as well as the Oilers medical staff before a decision is made. "If the decision is surgery I will be out six months and playing more this season is out of the question," Klefbom said. "If that’s the case it’s just for me to start focusing on the next season." The highly-regarded rearguard had three assists in 11 games with Farjestad of the SEL before the injury. He was the 19th overall pick in the 2011 Draft and is still looking to make the journey to crack the Oilers lineup next season.

Edmonton prospect Oscar Klefbom is projected to be sidelined for four to six weeks with a shoulder injury.

He had an MRI on the ailment that revealed a dislocation. Klefbom has three assists in 11 games with Farjestad this season. He was the 19th overall selection in the 2011 draft.

Oscar Klefbom appears to be getting more ice time in Sweden this season than he did a year ago.

The Farjestad BK defense corps was deep in 2011-12, so his minutes were limited. However, he is off to a strong start this campaign with 12:48 of ice in his first contest and 25:17 during his second match, which was decided in overtime. Klefbom is seemingly being used in a defensive role, but since he likely won't put up big numbers offensively anyway that shouldn't be looked at as an issue.

Oscar Klefbom has signed an entry-level deal with the Oilers.

The 18-year-old defenseman signed a three-year deal following a season in which he played 33 games for Farjestads BK Karlstad of the Swedish Elite League. Klefbom was taken 19th overall by Edmonton last summer. He was a member of gold medal-winning Sweden at this year’s WJC.

Oscar Klefbom will remain in Sweden for one more season.

The defenseman was taken 19th overall in the 2011 Draft and was the Oilers second first round pick, after Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. He had two goals in 33 game with Farjestads BK of the Swedish Elite League. It's a good idea as the league is third best in the world and very few teenage defensemen are good enough to play in the NHL.

First round draft pick Oscar Klefbom is set to sign a three year entry level contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

Klefbom was taken with the 19th pick in the 2011 Entry Draft and will spend one more season in Sweden according to the Edmonton Journal. He had two goals in 33 games with Farjestads BK Karlstad of the Swedish Elite League but the defenseman is only 18 and that is impressive playing in the top Swedish league at such a young age. Look for Klefbom to come to the NHL in time for training camp in 2013.

Oscar Klefbom has been taken by the Edmonton Oilers with the 19th overall pick in the 2011 NHL entry draft.

It is often hard to get an accurate read on some of the young Swedish prospects. Their ice time can and often will be severely limited while playing as mere teenagers in the tough Swedish elite league. Despite that, scouts have taken notice, as Klefbom has made the most of his opportunity with Farjestad. Klefbom reminds scouts of Detroit Red Wings Swedish defenseman Jonathan Ericsson.
