Oscar Klefbom scored his first NHL goal on Friday.
The stay at home defenseman was drafted 19th overall and was the Oilers second first round pick in the 2011 Draft after they selected Ryan Nugent-Hopkins first overall. Klefbom gave his dad Hakan a great birthday present with the goal as his pop was watching the game back home in Sweden. Klefbom compares himself to Chicago's Niklas Hjalmarsson and if he turns out to be as good, then the Oilers have found themselves a solid defender for many years to come. Mar 30 - 3:42 AM

Oscar Klefbom made his NHL debut on Tuesday.

Klefbom had an assist in Edmonton's 4-3 shootout win. "I thought he was a little bit like Viktor. He struggled little bit early," said Oilers coach Dallas Eakins. "I think it was probably a case of nerves and the speed Minnesota has but . . . I thought by the third he looked like an NHL defenseman. That's encouraging."

Oscar Klefbom will make his NHL debut on Tuesday night when the Oilers take on the Stars.

The 20 year-old Swede has played in Oklahoma City all season, where he had nine points and a minus-nine rating through 45 games. Klefbom is one of Edmonton's top prospects on defense, as he was the 19th overall pick in 2011.

The Edmonton Oilers recalled defenseman Brad Hunt and not Oscar Klefbom because Klefbom is injured.

Klefbom has struggled offensively in the AHL as he has only three assists in 27 games with a minus-10 rating. Nevertheless, he likely would have been recalled had he not been hurt. Just an FYI in case you have Klefbom in a dynasty pool.

The Oilers sent Oscar Klefbom back down to the AHL.

Klefbom was up for just a day. The defensemen, a first-rounder of the Oilers from the 2011 draft, has yet to make his NHL debut. He has an assist in 12 games with the Oklahoma City Barons this season.

Oscar Klefbom has been summoned by the Edmonton Oilers.

Klefbom might make his NHL debut on Friday after being selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He's a defensive defenseman, which is great for the Oilers but will make him a non-factor in standard fantasy leagues.

Oscar Klefbom is likely to start the season with Oklahoma City of the AHL.

Klefbom is a highly regarded defenseman with the Oilers after being drafted 19th overall in the 2011 Draft. He underwent shoulder surgery in November and has not played since so the recently turned 20-year-old could use some time in the minors since it will be almost a year since he last played. It also does not help his cause that he will be spending his first season in North America and that is always a big adjustment for most Europeans. He should be in the Oilers lineup at some point this season. He is not an offensive defenseman so we cannot recommend him in fantasy pools.

Oscar Klefbom (shoulder) is back to playing in competitive hockey games after 11 months.

Klefbom, who had shoulder surgery in November, will be participating in a rookie game on Thursday. "It’s been a long time," Klefbom said. "(But) I've had a really good summer. I had a good chance to prepare myself for the season." In addition to returning from a major injury, he's also making the transition from the Swedish Hockey League to North America.

Edmonton Oilers GM Craig MacTavish thinks very highly of Oscar Klefbom.

Klefbom was selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He's making the transition to North America after spending some time in the Swedish Elite League. "It’s never a bad thing to get a little of experience in the American Hockey League, but he’s very, very close because he did play last year against men (in the Swedish Elite League) for a short period of time before he got hurt," MacTavish said. The Oilers have seven defensemen signed to one-way contracts and that doesn't even include Justin Schultz. With that in mind, Klefbom is a long shot to make the team out of training camp.

Defenseman Oscar Klefbom thinks he is ready to play in the NHL.

Klefbom underwent shoulder surgery in November and is now fully recovered. He played 11 games for Farjestad of the Swedish Elite League last season, picking up three assists and a plus-seven rating. "I haven't played since the accident, but the shoulder feels good," Klefbom said. "I can shoot slap shots and do all the things you need to do on the ice. Right now it's 100%. Lifting weights in the gym it feels very stable, the left shoulder almost feels better than the right one. I haven't played a game since October but the training feels good and the shot as well, so we'll see." Klefbom is highly regarded and was drafted 19th overall in the 2011 Draft. He is worth a flier in deep keeper leagues at this time.

Defenseman Oscar Klefbom (shoulder) is in Edmonton for a couple of weeks to bond with his future teammates.

Klefbom suffered a shoulder injury in November that required season-ending surgery. Coach Ralph Krueger is having him watch other defensemen in game action while he is travelling with the team. "I had him observe Nick Schultz, Ladi Smid, Jeff Petry, Mark Fistric on our defensive structure against Los Angeles. I want some feedback from Oscar. We're giving him some assignments," Krueger said. "I want him to visualize what kind of role he can have with us." Look for Klefbom to make the Oilers next season, if not at the beginning of the season, then at least part way through.

Oscar Klefbom will reportedly miss the remainder of the season due to shoulder surgery.

"Klefbom will undergo surgery which means his season is over," posted Swedish journalist Johan Eriksson on Twitter. "Should be in Edmonton right now actually." The Oilers prospect had been getting much more ice time with Farjestad in the Swedish Elite League this season. He had three assists and a plus-7 rating in 11 Elitserien games prior to heading to the sidelines. Klefbom will have to use the rest of the year to recover, so that he can make a push for a spot on Edmonton's roster in 2013-14.

Edmonton Oilers prospect Oscar Klefbom may need surgery on his injured shoulder and if he does, it will sideline him for the rest of the season.

Klefbom was injured a month ago when he fell reaching for the puck and was hit at the same time. He will be looked at by his Swedish doctors as well as the Oilers medical staff before a decision is made. "If the decision is surgery I will be out six months and playing more this season is out of the question," Klefbom said. "If that’s the case it’s just for me to start focusing on the next season." The highly-regarded rearguard had three assists in 11 games with Farjestad of the SEL before the injury. He was the 19th overall pick in the 2011 Draft and is still looking to make the journey to crack the Oilers lineup next season.
