Mark Scheifele learned from his experience at the World Cup of Hockey.
"I don't know if it there are specific things, but playing with certain guys and with me being a center, now I can maybe empathize with what a winger is doing," said Scheifele. "The biggest thing for me was to get to play against the best guys in the world and be a part of that." He skated on the right side for most of the tournament on a line with Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews. When Scheifele gets back with the Jets he is penciled in to begin the regular season between Blake Wheeler and Nikolaj Ehlers. Sep 27 - 9:33 AM

Mark Scheifele has agreed to an eight-year, $49 million contract extension with the Winnipeg Jets.

That works out to be a $6.125 million annual cap hit. He was a restricted free agent after completing his entry-level contract. Scheifele broke out last season with 29 goals and 61 points in 71 contests. He's got the potential to get even better over the next couple of seasons and really make that cap hit look like a bargain for the Jets. Obviously, Winnipeg is also taking a risk here given the length of the deal and his still somewhat small sample size, but Scheifele's a player worth taking that kind of chance on.

"Well, I'm a hockey player," he said. "I want to play as much as I can. Obviously, you want to be playing at this time of year, in the Stanley Cup playoffs and fighting your way with your club team through the playoffs. When you're not doing that, you want to be playing and to be able to represent your country, come overseas and play in this tournament, you can learn a lot of things from it."
