Mark Scheifele has been used sparingly at the 2014 World Hockey Championship.

He has averaged a team-low 5:19 of ice time in four games during the preliminary round. He probably played his best contest of the tournament so far on Thursday versus Denmark when he won 9-of-9 faceoffs and posted four shots. Scheifele doesn't have a point yet, but he's fresh off an MCL injury and his rookie status isn't helping either.
May 16 - 6:30 AM

Mark Scheifele feels ready to play after an MCL injury and he's excited to play for Team Canada in the World Hockey Championships.

"I'll be good to go by then. The knee is feeling good," he said. "I've been continuing to skate and work out and get it stronger and it's feeling really good. And there was no surgery and it healed on its own so that's good, too." The Winnipeg Jets struggled without him in the lineup, finishing with a record of 6-9-3 down the stretch. The talented rookie posted 13 goals and 34 points in 63 games.
Apr 23 - 7:21 AM

Mark Scheifele will play for Canada at the World Championships next month.

He hasn't played since March 4 because of a knee injury, but he's healthy now and eager to get back on the ice. Scheifele will be joined by Winnipeg coach Paul Maurice, who will serve on Canada's staff.
Apr 17 - 9:51 AM

Mark Scheifele (knee) has been cleared to play again.

Unfortunately, for him and the Jets he'll have to until next season. He has been sidelined since Mar. 4 with a sprained MCL. Scheifele registered 13 goals and 34 points in 63 games this campaign.
Apr 14 - 9:48 AM

Mark Scheifele (knee) may resume skating in the next couple of days, according to coach Paul Maurice.

He suffered a sprained MCL back on Mar. 4 and he hasn't played since. Scheifele had 13 goals and 34 points in 63 games prior to getting hurt.
Apr 3 - 3:47 PM

Coach Paul Maurice was asked how Mark Scheifele's loss to injury has impacted the Jets.

"First it was our mood. The day of the game after the injury you could feel the loss in the locker-room. From a purely tactical point of view, he's a player that was appreciated by the coach. He's really good in his own end, does all the little things right, the puck comes to him and he makes really smart decisions with it," said Maurice. "Statistically he was a big driver of our offense. Net goals against, red-zone shots and all the funny stuff we look at, his numbers were top one or two in every category. He didn't give much up defensively and he was a part of goals scored. Not all of our offense, but a good chunk of it, came when he was on the ice. We miss him." He's expected to be a big part of the team's future, but for the present he probably won't play again this year because of a sprained MCL.
Mar 13 - 9:37 AM

According to TSN's Aaron Ward, Mark Scheifele suffered an MCL injury and will likely be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks.

It should be noted that this is just an early indication and the Jets have not confirmed the extent of Scheifele's injury yet. Losing him for the rest of the season would be a big blow to Winnipeg's playoff aspirations. The rookie center has 13 goals and 34 points in 63 games this season.

Mar 5 - 1:26 PM

Mark Scheifele had to be helped off the ice during the second period after taking a hit on his knee from Islanders defenseman Calvin de Haan.

"We'll have Mark tested (Wednesday) morning and get a real good understanding of what we're dealing with," said coach Paul Maurice. "I'm not going to speculate on what we think in terms of the length of this. We'll know everything we need to know by the time we meet tomorrow." It isn't clear if he'll be available to play on Thursday at this time.
Mar 5 - 7:25 AM

Mark Scheifele left Winnipeg's game with the Islanders on Tuesday night after taking a hit and did not return.

The Jets' young star will be re-evaluated on Wednesday, but the 20 year-old looked to be in serious pain while being helped off the ice.
Mar 4 - 11:48 PM

Mark Scheifele didn't skate on Thursday because of the flu.

We expect the Winnipeg rookie to be OK for NHL action next week, so we'll keep him active for the time being. Scheifele has 13 goals and 34 points in 60 games this campaign.
Feb 21 - 7:20 AM

Mark Scheifele tallied a pair of goals in Winnipeg's 4-3 shootout loss to St. Louis on Saturday.

The Jets rookie has 13 goals and 34 points in 60 games this campaign. Blake Wheeler earned two assists in the contest, while Dustin Byfuglien had Winnipeg's other goal.
Feb 8 - 5:21 PM

Winnipeg bench boss Paul Maurice praised the defensive skills of rookie Mark Scheifele before Thursday's game against Washington.

"He thinks the game very well in his end and plays off people well. He's got a calm and a confidence down there that you don't see in young guys," said Maurice. "He's not chasing the puck and he's picked up our structure of what our defensive zone is supposed to look like very, very quickly." Ironically, Scheifele posted a minus-2 rating in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Capitals. It was just the second time in his last 13 games that he's finished on the negative side of the ledger.
Feb 7 - 6:30 AM

Mark Scheifele continued to impress Tuesday night with a goal and an assist in the Jets' loss to Nashville.

Scheifele has been hot lately, and raised his point total to 31 (11 G, 20 A) through 55 games. He is currently third in rookie scoring behind only Nathan MacKinnon and Tyler Johnson.
Jan 28 - 10:49 PM

Rookie Mark Scheifele of the Winnipeg Jets has four points (two goals) in his past four games.

Only two NHL rookies -- Colorado's Nathan MacKinnon and Tampa's Tyler Johnson, both with 29 points -- have more points than Scheifele's 27 (9G, 18A). Interestingly, in five of the six games in which fellow Winnipeg rookie Jacob Trouba has scored this year, Scheifele has also found the back of the net. "We just push each other. Whenever he scores, I want to score. I don't want to be shown up by him," said Scheifele with a grin. "And whenever I score, he wants to score. It's good."
