Connor Murphy scored his first goal of the season on Wednesday.

Murphy has been used sparingly so far this season, as evidenced by his 9:36 minutes of ice time Wednesday night. Until he starts playing a bigger role with Arizona, he won't have any fantasy value.
Oct 16 - 7:53 AM

Connor Murphy has won a roster spot with Arizona.

Murphy had a goal and eight points in 30 games in 2013-14. "He's earned the right to be here," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "He's had a good enough camp that we felt like he should be playing in our top-six. He'll continue to get better consistently in the way he does things — not just thinking them, but actually getting them done will continue to improve every day with him." Murphy was taken with the 20th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Murphy is a native of nearby Dublin, Ohio and the former first round pick in the 2011 Draft is itching to get back into the Phoenix lineup after being a healthy scratch the last three games. He has a goal and eight points with a plus-six rating this season in 28 games. Stay tuned.

Jan 27 - 4:58 PM

The Phoenix Coyotes need some changes, so it might not be that surprising that they sent Connor Murphy to the AHL on Sunday.

He actually had three points in two games before going pointless in his two most recent contests, but apparently Phoenix believes that the defenseman needs to work on his game a bit.
Jan 12 - 3:14 PM

Connor Murphy had two assists on Saturday in the Coyotes 5-3 loss to Philadelphia.

The 20th overall pick in the 2011 draft now has a goal and seven points in 18 games. The son of former NHLer Gord Murphy has a lot of offensive upside but could have trouble seeing a lot of power play time early in his career as the Coyotes have Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Keith Yandle ahead of him on the depth chart.

Despite scoring the game-winner and playing more than 22 minutes last night, Connor Murphy appears primed to return to the AHL.

It looks like the Phoenix Coyotes will demote him on Sunday. Murphy acquitted himself well, but he's not the only 'Yotes blueliner who can create some offense, so it helps explain the move. If nothing else, he can build on this early experience.
Sun, Nov 17, 2013 01:35:00 PM

Connor Murphy played 22:32 minutes and scored his first goal in his NHL debut on Saturday.

Coach Dave Tippett was not afraid to use the rookie in tough situations as Murphy was second on the team in shorthanded time on ice. The first product of the Columbus minor system to make the NHL, Murphy was a first round selection, 20th overall in the 2011 Draft. Look for him to stay up for at least a while as the Coyotes are hurting on the blueline and if he is able to play like he did on Saturday, he may never be returned to the minors.
