Josh Leivo scored his second career NHL goal in Sunday's 5-3 win over Ottawa.

Nov 10 - 11:36 AM

The Maple Leafs recalled Josh Leivo from the Marlies for Saturday's game against the Rangers.

It is not clear if he will get the chance to line up on the Buds' top line alongside Phil Kessel and Nazem Kadri in place of the injured Daniel Winnik or if Toronto coach will make another shuffle to plug the void. Either way Leivo, who had a strong training camp, is likely only up for as long as Winnik is out of action.

Oct 9 - 6:17 PM

Josh Leivo is becoming something of a revelation in Maple Leaf camp thus far.

He scored a goal and registered two assists in the Buds' 6-4 win over Buffalo Friday night. This on the heels of a very successful rookie tournament has put Leivo in a decent position to steal a job from a veteran forward this fall. The Toronto coaching staff has been especially impressed with the strength Leivo shows on the puck in the corners. Keep an eye on the 21-year-old. He may be a nice surprise this season.

Josh Leivo made a big impression in his first game of the rookie tournament by scoring two goals for the Leafs on Saturday, but the coaching staff was not surprised with the 21 year old's impact.

"He proved that he’s a capable NHL player by playing up there last year," said the prospect team's head coach Gord Dineen. "The way we look at it is, it’s opportunity," said Dineen. "He gets a chance to play against younger guys and get a couple of games under his belt before the main camp." Leivo has been scratched from Sunday night's game against the Senators along with fellow standout WIlliam Nylander. It's clear Toronto thinks Leivo is ready to compete for a roster spot at the NHL training camp next week, with this week's rookie camp serving as a tune-up.
